FRYER LIBRARY

Significant additions to the Fryer Library manuscript collection in 2012 included:

• 13 boxes of research notes and material related to Brisbane literary societies and writers in the 1880s and 1890s

• 63 boxes of records from the Tuberculosis Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen’s Association of Queensland

• 10 boxes of records and 4 albums of photographs related to the establishment of National Parks in Queensland, land use and conservation

• The papers of John Henry Iliffe, a pioneering archaeologist in Cyprus and Palestine in the 1930s, donated to Fryer in conjunction with a donation of rare artefacts to the Antiquities Museum

• A 14 box addition to the papers of philosopher Richard Sylvan

• The records of the Jane Austen Society of Australia, Brisbane branch

• Correspondence between Doug Blackmur, now a Professor of History at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa and formerly a PhD student of Denis Murphy’s, and Denis Murphy

• Additional material for the Gordon Greenwood collection

• A Super8 colour film of the 1982 Commonwealth Games protests

• A substantial addition to the Bell family papers

Significant additions to the Fryer Library rare book collection included:

• First editions of George Eliot’s Middlemarch (1872)and Anthony Trollope’s John Caldigate (1879), purchased with funds donated by the Victorian Fiction Research Group

• The etchings of Norman Lindsay (1927) and an artist’s book by Peter Lyssiotis Men of Flowers (2010), purchased with funds donated by Drs Cathryn and Margaret Mittelhauser
