Guests have been welcomed to Killarney Royal for over 100 years and today the hotel is independently owned and warmly operated by The Scally Family. The Scally’s have held the mantle of caring for guests at Killarney Royal for three generations.

Killarney Royal has two big sister properties, the iconic Malton Killarney and the 5 star Hayfield Manor in Cork city. Yet it was within the cosy environs of Killarney Royal that the current generation of the family who operate all three hotels learned their trade and carry on the family motto ‘no request too big, no detail too small’. In 2016 Killarney Royal was honoured with the ultimate accolade for a small independent property by being accepted into the prestigious collection of Ireland’s Blue Book - a source of great pride for The Scally Family and the close knit team at Killarney Royal.

Claire is the youngest daughter of Joe & Margaret Scally. She holds a degree from Dublin Business School, thereafter she went on to study fashion marketing at the London College of Fashion. Claire never thought that she would work in hotels, however having been immersed in the hotel industry from an early age, one thing led to another and Claire naturally became involved in the family business and in recent years has assumed the role of Hotel Manager at Killarney Royal. Claire enjoys the challenge that is involved with the smooth running of the daily operations in a hotel. She strives to set and maintain high standards of care by all her staff and thereby provide exceptional hospitality for her guests at Killarney Royal.

In her leisure time, Claire enjoys yoga and swimming as she has a huge interest in the world of wellbeing having trained as a life coach. She also loves travelling at every opportunity that she gets with her partner Eoghan.

Joe Hurley is proud to be the longest serving member of staff in Killarney Royal. Since joining the team in 1985, Joe has claimed the role of Head Chef and has also built a reputation among the local community for great tasting food and superb attention to detail.

Joe is originally from Kilkenny and gained his love of cooking when his parents put him in charge of making the Sunday roast at the young age of thirteen. Joe began his culinary career at the age of sixteen in the Newpark hotel in Kilkenny where the head chef quickly noticed how talented he was. He was then sent to the prestigious Rockwell College to learn how to become a professional chef. Joe has worked in many cities including Galway and London, but has settled in Killarney with his family for the past 30 years.
