Restore Oklahoma Public Education

This message was passed on from someone whose children go to Oakdale Schools, outside ofEdmond, OK. For those of you that don't know, this is an area of hundred thousand to millions of

dollar homes, in a near rural area east of the city. I have never heard of a single security incident

at Oakdale. Why in the WORLD would parents put up with having their DRIVERS LICENSESCANNED just to visit the school they pay for to see their OWN KIDS? This is truly insane. I

hope Oakdale parents revolt! Oh, well, we certainly wouldn't want an "epic mess", I guess...

One of the items we would really like to get taken care of before school starts is our new check

in / out system. I started to write new and improved but I have never really quite understood how

those two go together.We have a new and as time goes by and we work out the kinks and get used to the new

procedures improved check in / out system. You must scan your drivers license before you can

get your first visitors tag.

You can come to school T-TH from 8:30 - 3:00 and scan your license. PLEASE DO. If everyonewaits until the first day I am afraid we will have one of those epic messes. Thanks so much for

your help.

Daniel A RobertsAs an FYI, I don't wear tin foil hats. My personal education andexperience with these 'security systems' are pushed to the parents as a method of

protecting their children. Who would be against protecting kids, right? Under thatpretense, you're getting labeled, tracked, identified and worse of all, collected into aprivately owned database you know nothing about. How do I know this? Scanning the

Drivers License in Florida, which uses this same type of system for their schools, is oneof the reasons why I'm out of that state. Back in 1998, when I was granted security

clearance to ship high tech parts through an International distribution hub for Dell

Computers, one of the first things I was informed about was the strip on the back of aDriver's License. This is not something you want to casually give away. Period. So when

they wanted to scan my ID in Florida, I said no. I got the name of the system and the

company. Upon researching them, as they were based in Texas at that time with the

'Raptor' system, their encryption was provided by a different company, one they braggedabout in their 'about' page. I looked up that company, and they are based in Shanghai,

China. These machines are hooked to the internet with an active port. Unless YOU study

the code, there is no way to know where that data is going, who is collecting it, and thefact it accesses all 50 states for those 'background' checks is a huge, ugly red flag. Sothink about this. The data encryption is provided by a company in Communist China,

with every swipe, you give the data up in the reader as its processed out to who knows

where. Look at it this way... say I have a port sniffer and I set the automated alert to textme when you swipe at one of these machines. I get the text, I know you're at school. I

also know where you live, your employer, yadda yadda and now your house is available

for a visit... get it yet? ROPE is correct to oppose this garbage. When I was on the phone

to the Rep in Texas five years ago, he said to me, "We have a contract not to share yourdata, in writing." I replied, "Your encryption is written and provided by an enemy of the

United States, who can only benefit from logging everything about every parent with a

child in school in America. That is data that an enemy can use against you. Since theyhave the keys to the encryption, how do you know they're not taking the data?" His

response? "I didn't think about that." Then he excuses himself and hangs up. Get this

system out of Oklahoma NOW, while you can. If you think it's only about protecting

kids, you're falling for the data clearing house, hook, line and sinker.

Kimberly Pautler WhiteWe have Lobby Guard at all the schools in Edmond. You scan

your drivers license and a quick background check for bad activities involving kids orrestraining orders etc. it also prints a visitor's badge with your picture on the badge. Is it

perfect, no, but it helps with the safety for the children. Lobby guard is similar to asecurity service at the airport - if you want to go into the school (airport) then you use the

system. It helps with safety but won't catch everything. Now, if my child has to walk

through a security system metal detector for school I won't be happy.

the first 15 minutes of it being installed at one of the above school districts....it caught a

contractor that was there who was a registered sex offender. Is LobbyGuard a system thatwill prevent every evil person from getting near our children? Absolutely not. But it is a

tool that can be used as a layered defense in protecting against sexual predators.

Joy DudaThe only information collected would be if you are a sex offender. By OK law

that is the only restriction that can prevent an individual access to the school. (Unless aparent or guardian has other legal requests or restrictions) this actually deters sex

offenders from trying to access a building with this service. -Similar to what homeowners

do when they display a security sign in their yard. Even expired licenses work in myexperience. While parents have to scan their license to enter the building, so does every

other individual who wants access to the school. Every vendor, delivery person or visitor.

Most school districts do back ground checks, as well as finger printing, for potential

employees. I hope this information helps.


Kelly Vishneski WalkerNot trying to stir the pot or be a lightning rod, but I have never,ever, had my license "scanned" anywhere except my area schools. I have four children

hence the four locations, but never has anyone EVER scanned my license, so how are

they collecting information on me? Am I just not shopping in the same places the rest ofyou are?

Kaye BeachLooking over the school violence stats it seems that most of the perverts are

already in the schools. I am not finding that predators are walking in and snatching kids

very often and that is what this system says its for-to stop sex offenders. Meanwhile,what data is actually being collected? Is the data being stored in a database? Who has

access to that database and what procedures are in place to protect your personal

information from being stolen or misused? Is your personal info being shared? If so, withwhom and for what purpose? The burgeoning use of drivers license scanning devicesmakes tracking and monitoring of the population much easier. When these data are held

in separate databases there are plenty of security and privacy concerns but if the

databases are linked or matched with other databases or shared-watch out - The negativeimplications explode at that point. In case you are wondering just what information is in

James EnglandEarlier this year, I forgot to renew my drivers license. Shortly after that,my debit card broke. My bank (of 20 years) would not give me a new debit card because

my license had expired, which they knew without me showing it to them. By the way, Inever have to even show them my license or bank card to do business with them.

It's not a big leap to not being able to check your child out from school because your

license expired. I've never understood what the big deal about an expired license is

anyway unless you are getting a traffic citation. Your identity never expires anyway.

successfully reached your goal of convincing the American people that their God given

rights are ready to take away, and or that we no longer have the right to privacy or dueprocess through a warrant by a judge if you have committed a crime. I don't believe any

criminals are here. A officer can't even ask for your ID unless he tells you what crime

you committed. This would be unconstitutional if you were aware that it is. It's sad that

you don't know any better. Great education system America has.

appreciate your posts! I just ask you to think about this situation a bit more...Did you

know that your driver's license - even in Oklahoma - contains a strip on the back that

contains all kinds of information about your shopping habits, as well as other personalinformation? What could the school do with this information in this era of data collection

in schools? Should schools have that information on you - and by extension - yourfamily? Does it really make your child safer to have his/her parents checking in and out

of the school? Does that mean you could ever NOT have access to your child/children?

Do you think this method would truly stop someone intent on getting into the school to

do violence? Pedophiles are detestable creatures, however, can they reach your childwhen you know exactly where your child is in a day because you are in contact with your

child's teacher on a constant basis? There is a push to have government entities tell you

that you must provide them with information on you or your children to be 'safer' - thinkof the TSA in the airport. Should Americans give up liberty for safety? If so, at what

point do we become free and safe at the same time? Simply because you're not activelywearing chains or behind bars, doesn't mean you're free. You can become a slave to any

government or government entity who has enough information on you to allow that tohappen. (Jenni)

oKelly Vishneski WalkerIn BA, we don't have access to our children anymore. Iwas denied access to my daughters recess, reason given was that they don't have

the staff to watch parents. I was irate. I have been at my elementary school for 14

years and have always joined my children for lunch and recess a few times a year.I went in this past year and was told that the principal had the power to dictate

this. Other schools in BA did not have this policy. I could have lunch with her,

but I was not allowed on the playground. So whether they know I like Bed Bath

and Beyond for my linens or Hollister for jeans is of little concern. What wouldthe schools do with this information? Who cares. I am more concerned with the

freedoms being stolen from me now and whether the HVAC guy coming into my

kindergarten classroom during naptime is a perv. Just the way I look at it.

oRestore Oklahoma Public EducationKelly, I'm glad we're having this discussion.I think it's very educational (no pun intended) all the way around. I am saddened

that BO would do what they've done in preventing YOU from having time with

YOUR children. I do not agree with that - even if staff is the issue. Maybe it's agood time to ask where all the money we keep spending on education is going?

Our thesis has always been that it's NOT going to the classroom where it shouldgo - nor even to the school the way it should. Maybe that's the next issue to tackle.

Schools should never keep parents away from their children. That sets a really bad

precedent I think...

enters the school to scan their license. It makes me feel safer to know that people have to

check in when I am upstairs teaching 28 precious children whose parents have entrustedme with their lives and safety. If an abusive or estranged parent comes in and wants their

child because they are the 'mother or father' and all they have to do is say they need to

I would doubt it - therefore, this is a 'preventative' measure to protect the safety of

others. What does that do to your liberty? Everyone in the school is presumed

guilty until they enter the doors after submitting themselves to an identityscan...did you see or read, "Minority Report"?

school. We and you should be lucky that you have administration that cares so much foryour children. It is a safety measure put in place so any unwanted person can not gain

access to your children and schools. If it protects one child from being taken or hurt it is

worth the inconvenience.
