The Jackson 5: Hey everybody!! Anybody been listenin’ to “I’ll Be There” lately?
Victoria Ta: YEAH! We even did it in chorus!! Ah… It’s been 41 years since you released that on your “Third Album”. It was pretty slow compared to when we sang “Don’t Stop Believing”, but it did speed up at some parts I guess.
The Jackson 5: Well what do you expect? It was meant to be a soft song about how a guy wants a girl to give him a second chance and how that no matter what, he will be there for her if she just gives him that chance.
Victoria Ta: OHHHHHH!! I see, I see… So that’s why you put in those lyrics that said “I’d know he better be good to you, ‘cause if he doesn’t, I’ll be there.” and also “Whenever you need me, I’ll be there.”
The Jackson 5: Yup, it’s a pretty happy and “in love” song. The drums, piano, and tambourine were a pretty nice touch… Did you know that this song was actually our first hit that was not written by “the Corporation?”
Victoria Ta: Oh really? Then congrats on making such a beautiful song yourselves guys! Personally, I think that your version is better than the version that Mariah Carey remade in 1992, though it did end up being a number one hit just like yours. Combining Jermaine and Michael’s voices for the lead vocals was a good choice. Nice job.The Jackson 5: Thanks! And by the way, you write really long wall posts…
