High Impact Strategies for Engaging Our Diverse Families 2019 FACE Seminar 4 Tuesdays -- 4:15 to 6:15 pm February 12 th (will counts for the Feb 13 th early release professional learning ) March 12 th , April 23 rd . Barrett School Library SRN #: 20193800001 16 Recertification Points CANVAS Self-Enroll Code: https: //apsva.instructure.com/enroll/EW76Y9 This Seminar is designed for school staff and administrators who want to foster strong engagement practices in their classrooms and schools. Participants will obtain new knowledge, ideas and tools they can use to create meaningful partnership with diverse families to help their students succeed. Session 1 looks into the characteristics and conditions for effective home-school partnerships; Session 2 focuses on the core beliefs, asset-based and equity mindsets required; Session #3 dives into strategies to start off on the right foot with families; Session 4 looks into how to maintain strong family ties throughout the year, including approaches such as Academic Parent Teacher Teams. Participants will be able to reflect on their own practices and apply what they learn to address particular challenges, weaving in strategies to ensure their activities with families are high impact. There will be short assignment in between sessions. Participants will receive a free copy of Powerful Partnerships: A Teacher’s Guide to Engaging Families for Student Success (Mapp et al., 2017). The instructors team includes: Anne Henderson, well -known researcher in the field currently with the National Association for Family, School and Community Engagement; Iris Jacob, founder of Social Justice Synergy and trainer with Teaching for Change, a nationally leading organization in multicultural, equity-based K-12 training and resources; and a group of APS FACE trailblazers led by Dr. Rosa Briceno, APS Family Engagement Specialist, who will share their experiences. The Seminar is limited to 30 participants. Schools are encouraged to form teams of 4 or more. Priority will be given to those who have taken the Introduction to FACE and/or Building Meaningful Relationships with Families workshops, and those enrolling as part of a school team.
