BackgroundInformation

Founded in 2002 by a number of Leewood Autograssmembers, the F600 class is inessence an introductory specials class run to class 8 specifications with furtherrestrictions imposed. This is an attempt to reduce cost and increase thequantity ofspecialsracingatclublevel.TheF600classandchampionshipwillbegovernedbytheelectedF600Committee intheimmediatefuturealthoughtheF600committeeareinnegotiationswithNASAwithviewtobecominga fullNASAclass. Theoverallaimof thecommittee is to raise theprofileoftheclassbyprovidingcheap,close,fastracingandallmemberswhosignuptotheBF600Careexpectedtofollowthisobjective.Currently F600’s do not have a separate class represented at the Nationals but aseparate class is provided within the British Autograss Series and UK AutograssChampionship.Wethereforehaveanextendedcalendarofeventsduetodemandfromcompetitorsandgrowinginterestfromclubswiththeintroductionfrom2015ofa‘Nationals’stylecompetition;onemeetingovertwodayswithachampionattheendofit.Since2010BF600Chastakenplaceover8roundswiththefeatureofbeingabletodroptwo of the lowest points scoring meetings. This accommodates for accidents,mechanical failures, holidays, work and not wishing to travel to certain meetingswithoutputtingyourselfoutoftherunningforthetitle.AllcompetitorsintheBF600Cmustdeclarethedriver(s)forthecaratthestartoftheseason;onedriverandonereservedriverpercarisallowed.Thanks tooursponsors, competitorswishing tocompete in thechampionshipdonothave to pay any additional registration fee or fill in any application forms althoughsome details do need to be provided at the beginning of the season to enable thePointsCoordinatortokeepaccuraterecords.

Anyshockabsorberthatdoesnothaveasinglebody,singleram/pistonorhasbeenadaptedfromanitemthathasmorethanoneadjusterforthebumpand/or rebound or body type and is not currently available for sale to the generalpublic at the time this rule book was released is not permitted and must besubmitted to the F600 committee for approval before use at any NASAauthorisedevent.

17. Carburettoristobeaspermanufacturerwiththemakeandmodelapplicabletotheengine,jettingandfiltersfree.Flatslidesnotallowed.

18. Modifications to the injectors, throttle bodies, fuel control/delivery systemsincludingECU’sandthemanufacturers’ standardmaparenotallowed. Drilledholes fortheprovisionofsealingtheECUto itsassociatedconnectorsmustbeprovided by the competitor. The introduction of non-standard items into thefuel system or ignition system is strictly prohibited, however fuel pumps arefree.

19. The ECU must be the correct version for the engine you are using; theinterchangingofECU’sbetweenmodelsisforbidden.

20. Any ECU must be from the appropriate year and model of engine used andcannot be interchanged betweenmodels. For example youmust statewhichengineyouhaveandtheappropriateECU,throttlebodiesandexhaustheadersmust be determined for thatmodel. No BHP advantage is to be gained as aresult of flashing or modification although it is permitted to have the ECUflashed but only to remove the proximity key sensing feature and enableoperationoftheignitionsystemwithoutthekeybeingpresent.

21. No engine components or ancillaries are to be modified frommanufacturers’original spec. No additional after-market components to be fitted into theignition system and/or ECU. The ignition systemmust operate as per originalmanufacturers’intentions.Throttlepositionsensorsandorpotentiometersmustberetainedandfunctionasperoriginalmanufacturersintention.

22. It is not permitted to adjust ignition timing, cam / valve timing, ECU map orinjector timing beyond the standard serviceable limits / settings stated by theoriginalenginemanufacturers’tolerances/standardsandrecommendedintherelevantworkshopmanualforthatmakeandmodel.

23. Cooling system modifications other than radiators and fans are strictlyprohibited.

24. The removal, alteration, addition ormodification of engine ancillaries such aswater pumps, alternators, charging systems and their internal mechanisms isstrictlyforbidden.

25. Gearbox is to remainstandard.Nowebbing is toberemovedfromaroundtheoutputsprocketandchain istorunasmanufacturersdesign(seerule4). OnlyYamaha5EB/SL isallowedtohave thealuminiumslug removedat the frontoftheenginesprocketintheeventthechainbreaksoristhrownoffthesprocket.

26. EngineswillbesealedasandwhendeemednecessarybytheF600Committee/Scrutineers.Competitorsmustensurethatrelevantholesaredrilledtofacilitateengine sealing ie. two bolts from the timing cover to be drilled and two boltsfromthecamcovertobedrilledortagswithholestobeweldedontothem.

27. Ifafterbasicinspectionchecksanyengineissuspectedofbeingillegaltheownerwill be asked to present the car in full running order atDaytuner for a rollingroadtest.

28. If the engine is still deemed to be non-standard a disciplinary hearing will bescheduledwhereadecisiontostriptheenginewillbemadeinordertoconfirmitslegality.

29. If theengine is foundtobe illegaltheownerwillbe liableforanycarriageandlabourcostsincurred.Ifnoabnormalitiesarefound,theenginewillbereturnedtoitsownerasperNationalsruling.

30. Exhaustistoremainasstandardinsize,configurationandpositionasproducedbyenginemanufacturerfromexhaustporttocollectors.Silencerisfree.

31. Wheelandtyresizeisfreeandbeadlocksareallowed.

GettingStarted

Thefirstthingyou’llneedtogetstartedonceyouhavethisrulebookisacar.ThereareseveraloptionsopentothosewishingtobuildanF600.Firstly,probablythecheapestoptionistomodifyanexistingclass8chassis.Thepre-driveboxcarsareeasiesttoadaptduetothesimilaritiesinthelayoutoftheengineinrelationtotherearaxle.Carsfrequentlytradehandsfromupwardsof£500.The second option is to buy a chassis from one of the several reputable chassismanufacturers around the country. Unique Race Cars, Berrisford Chassis &Components,DRD,APEngineering,BowenMotorsportorseveralothermanufacturerswill be able to fabricate a chassis that will adhere to the rules and regulationspreviouslymentioned.Thirdly,youcouldbuildyourownchassis.Manyofthecompetitorswillbemorethanhappytogiveyouanyadviceyouneed.

Race-Day,Scrutineering&Signing-On

Competitorsaretopassthroughscrutineeringasnormal.GeneralScrutineeringwillbeperformedbythehostclub.Thisscrutineeringwillbeexactlyasbeforewiththeusualsafetychecks:(braketest–brakelight–isolatorchecks–seatbelts).

Oncethroughscrutineering,parkupinthepitsandaBF600CscrutineerwillbeacrosstocheckthatthecarconformstotheF600rules&regulations.Certainaspectsoftherules and regulationswill be checkedat eachmeeting,with specific checksonotheritemsperformedatrandom.

Again, please be patient with the scrutineers; they are only there to ensure thateveryoneiscompetingonlevelterms.

Whensigning-on,pleasestatetotheofficial thatyouareracing“Formula600”.Theywillhaveaspecificsigning-onsheetfortheclass.Donotsignonasaclass8.Grid positions for all heats and finals will be drawn at random. This eliminates thepossibilityofcompetitors“picking”theirheats.Inextremeadverseweatherconditionsa ‘majority’decisionfromthedriverspresentatthetimewilldeterminewhetherornottoraceifthemeetingisnotcancelledbythehost club. This applies to conditionswhere it is impossible to read car numbers ordifferentiate one car from another and not just bad weather. Reserve dates areavailablebutwewillendeavour to replaceanycancelledmeetingsonthesamedatebutatadifferentvenue.Jumpstartsarealreadycoveredby theNASA rulebook thereforeF600will abidebythatrulingandtherulingoftheclubmarshalsofwhereweareracing.Timegiven for repair isalso in theNASArulesat15minutesand isgovernedby theofficialsoftheclubwhereweareracing.Notethisis15minutesfromstartingrepairswhichmakesallowancefortimestuckonthetrackorintheambulance.

CurrentlyeightmeetingsareplannedwithonlyyourtopsixpointsscoringmeetingscountingtowardstheBF600CIfacompetitorisdisqualifiedfromameetingforwhateverreasonanypointsaccruedatthatmeetingcannotbedrawnupontocountasoneofthatcompetitorsscoresordropscores over the series. Aspreviouslymentioned,thespiritoftheF600classistocreateclose,cheapracingbyutilisingbudgetcomponentsandunmodifiedengines.Such regulations are open to abuse if not policed correctly and therefore strict,thoroughscrutineeringisrequiredofeachofthecompetingF600’sinordertoensurethat the regulationsmentioned in the “Rules&Regulations” sectionare adhered to.Competitors who are found to be attempting to obtain a performance advantagethrough consciouslybreaking the ruleswill be foundandwill bebroughtbefore thecommitteefordisciplinaryaction.Ignorance is not an excuse. If you buy an engine, ensure it is standard, if you buy achassis,pleaseensureitconformstotheregulationsbeforeyouturnup.

Trophies will be awarded at each BF600C round by the host club. These should godowntoatleastthirdplacefortheAfinalonly.The winner of the BF600C will receive the annual BF600C trophy which will beengraved with the winners name and formally presented. This trophy is to bereturnedeachyearsothatitmaybepresentedtosubsequentwinners.ThefirstfourcompetitorsintheChampionshipwillreceivelargetrophieswhichtheycan keep. These trophieswill normally be presented at the Presentation Evening /DinnerDanceoftheclubofthewinningdriver.
