MRS. HUDSON - GRADE 3/4

Mrs. Hudson

WE DID IT!!! The students in grade 3/4 read over 100 books. Because of this,

Scholastic Canada and their partners will send books to another school in Canada that does not have the privilege of having free access to books as we do. Way to go! Our new spelling words will be coming home in our agendas, this week.

Mrs. Scott

Music: We have begun the study of orchestral instruments and the story of “Peter and the Wolf” this week. Students must continue to practice their recorder pieces (“March in the Woods” (#41), “O God Our Help in Ages Past,” and “Alleluia”- all parts). Parents, please remember to sign the recorder calendars.

Science: We are studying Bats & Polar Bears as a class. Each child will begin their own mammal project in class next week.

Mrs. Lise

Socials: This week we finish up our unit on the Conflict between the First Nations and Canadians. We will be learning about how one can seek reconciliation. Our unit will end with the students sharing through writing one side of the story, either Aboriginal or non-Aboriginal. Bible: This week our bible lessons focus on Israel’s journey after a year at Mt Sinai, how the Israelites continued to complain and sending the spies into the land of Canaan. Memory Work: John 3: 14-17 due April 30. Gym: We continue training for track and field. As we hope to spend as much time outside as possible please send along track pants and a sweatshirt for them to wear outside.

Here’s a summary of what’s coming up:

Mon., Apr. 20: Library. Tues., Apr. 21: Spelling test for everyone Wed., Apr. 22: Earth Day. Look elsewhere in Newsreel for special activities. Thurs., Apr. 30: Memory work due: John 3: 14-17 due.

MISS CHIANG – GRADE 1/2 He has truly risen! It is so wonderful to be able to celebrate Easter with family and

friends. It is also wonderful to hear the lovely stories the children have to share about

what they did at home and at church to observe Easter together.

In Science, the students are concentrating hard on grasping the concept of the

earth’s orbit around the sun. They have spent time looking at how the rotation of the

earth gives us night and day, as well as the seasons. Each one has worked so hard on

understanding what God has given us by creating a spinning earth.

In Math, both grades continue to focus hard on their geometry units. Grade 1 is

looking at dividing shapes in half, quarters and tenths. They are doing so well

recognizing the need for the divisions to be equal. Grade 2 spent time last week

looking at likeness and differences between shapes. They manipulated their shapes in

order to change one attribute at a time.

In Bible, the students are doing an awesome job looking at the division of Israel and

the actions of its people. We have also spent time looking at God’s care during their

time of captivity. The students have worked so hard comparing Israel and Judah

during this time.

social afterwards so we are asking

all the parents of TCS who go to

the Alliance to bringing some

appreciated if you can

help in this. Please contact Dotty

… If you have not already seen

this movie I would highly

recommend it. I personally

have seen it 8 times. It truly is

a fantastic tool to help

strengthen any marriage and

encourages you to come closer

to the God who designed it.

~Judy Vandekemp~

MISS CHIANG – GRADE 1/2 – CON’T

In writing, the students have developed great stories about being stuck on a

deserted island. The students have worked very hard on self-editing their work.

They are developing their stories through adding details and expanding their

ideas. They are also doing a wonderful job sounding out the words they don’t

know and double checking for correct punctuation.

The students continue to develop their skills in track and field. Each student has

been doing a wonderful job critiquing their own techniques to get better results.

They have also done an amazing job encouraging each other. Keep it up!

Show and Tell: Wednesday – Group B: Bring in something that reminds you of one

of our seasons.

Word Wall Words: Grade 1 – won’t, then, their, there, could

Grade 2 – tell, came, person, country, important

Scholastic Book Orders due Friday April 24

MRS. GROOT – JK-SK I hope you had a joyful Easter weekend. After watching the weather channel on Monday, I am excited we are going to have some spring like weather and temperatures this week. Our plan is to take a walk around the block and check out some signs of spring. I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to get ready for litterless lunches. That means next week we are going to try not to bring any garbage in our lunches; no wrappers or drinking boxes only containers. (I must say that many of you do this already and so this will be a fairly simple challenge.) We are going to try really hard not to generate any garbage all day. Mmm... so we have some planning and discussing to do in our class. We will certainly recycle and compost. So please help us to be thoughtful about doing our part to take care of God’s world. Our letter of the week is Uu Unspeakable Gift II Corinthians 9:15. U is also for umbrella. In our language development we have been working on rhyme. I would encourage you as parents to keep reading rhyming books and playing with rhyming words. We will continue in class as well. For the next several weeks we will also do short, fun oral activities that work on identifying sounds in words and dividing very simple words into separate sounds or phonemes (/d/-/o/-/g/). In our theme studies we will also be focusing on aspects of SPRING WEATHER. Keep bringing in signs of spring. Many of the items the children have brought in are thoughtful and fun and have generated some good discussion. Thank you. In Bible we will resume our lessons about David being anointed and becoming the next king of Israel. In Math we have been doing class activities that help us understand the concept of measuring. Now we will have some fun doing measuring activities with a partner. Ask your child what they measured today. Since half of our week has passed by, there will be no Home Activity page. We will begin again next week. We did not go to the library but you can return your books any time this week or next Monday. Scholastic book orders are due this Friday, April 17. Please keep practicing the song for our upcoming grandparents/friends day on Wed. May 6. (If you need another copy please let me know and I’ll pass another one along.) We are also reviewing Psalm 100. The plan is for the Kindergarten students to recite this for Grandparents day.

Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! II Corinthians 9:15

SPIRIT CLUB’S NEXT ACTIVITY IS… CRAZY EARTH DAY, APRIL 22

On Wednesday, April 22, Spirit

Club is hosting “Crazy Earth

Day.” Please bring a litterless

lunch, have your hair in a crazy

do and wear earth colours. There

will be participation points for the

school team totals. There will be 2

points for a litterless lunch, 2

points for crazy hair and 1 point

for earth colours. Litterless

lunches do NOT contain saran

wrap, plastic baggies, wrappers

and juice boxes. The litterless

lunches will continue for a week

to help build an Earth friendly

habit.

Our school has also decided as a

result of Earth Day, to start a

composting program. There will

be a „green‟ bin in each class, and

you will throw stuff in it like fruit

cores, peels, and used paper

towels.

$$$ TUITION INCENTIVE PROGRAM FOR TCS

FAMILIES $$$ Timothy Christian School is once

again offering the tuition

incentive program to help

encourage current TCS families to

talk about our school to other

families that may be interested in

enrolling their children. Word of

mouth has always been the best

form of advertising and TCS has

room for more families. We have

the opportunity to glorify God by

providing Christ centered

education for interested Christian

families. We have excellent

enthusiastic teachers.

As of last March you all have a

chance to receive $1000 off your

tuition costs for one year, as well

as the new family that enrolled

because of your encouragement.

We pray that this new venture,

with God‟s blessings will bring us

the chance to open our doors to

new families. Further details and

terms are available in the office.
