DIAMOND SHORT CUT

The Diamond Short-Cut is the first precision, manual squeegee sharpener for

squeegees 20" and under. This manual, tabletop unit accommodates both handheld

and press-held squeegees.

The sharpener includes one indestructible diamond sharpening wheel that will

sharpen any durometer squeegee, and optional profiled wheels for shaped squeegees

are available. The unit also features a dial indicator to gauge the amount of squeegee

material removed during each sharpening pass. There is no sharpener that offers

The Diamond-Fine squeegee edge polisher is a unique, manual

tool to enhance the quality of squeegee edges. In most cases,

grinding or cutting effectively sharpens a squeegee's worn

edges. However, for jobs that require superior image quality,

hand polishing is the only method to produce long-lasting,

streak-free edges. The 600 grit Diamond-Fine polisher is a

fast, easy way to fine tune squeegee edges for repeatable, high-

quality results.

Diamond-Fine surpasses all other manual devices for

polishing squeegee edges.

• Unlike sandpaper, Emery® cloth, etc., diamonds do not wear, tear, or fray on polyurethane.

This allows it to be used in confined or hard-to-reach areas other durometers cannot test. These durometers

meet standards ASTM D2240, ISO 7619 and ISO 868. The instrument uses a dial gauge with a full 360º

scale and bold, easy to read numbers. The dial scale can easily be read to .2 point accuracy. A standard max-

hold hand holds the peak reading until reset. The dial has a red zone to indicate unreliable readings. Readings

DUROMETER SHORE A

Hardness is one of the most significant physical properties of elastomeric compounds. In one manner

or another, it reflects such other qualities as resilience, durability, uniformity, tensile strength and

resistance to abrasion.

The Durometer Shore A is designed to measure the penetration hardness of rubber, elastomers and

other rubber like substances such as neoprene, silicone, and vinyl. It can also be used for soft plastics,

felt, leather and similar materials.

The Durometer Shore A is built for the most rugged materials, with all parts machined to a high tolerance for precision gauge

movement. All working parts are totally enclosed. Each heat-treated, high carbon steel spring is calibrated to specified

tolerances. A special cam permits a scale deflection of 100 points when the indenter is displaced exactly .1". The non-glare,

brushed aluminum dial scale is extended over 240 circular degrees to provide a reading accuracy well within 1% of the

calibration curve.

The lazy hand (ancillary pointer) is held by a magnetic clutch at the highest durometer reading and will hold this reading

against all vibrations and jarring met with normal use. An 8-32 threaded mounting knob permits test stand emplacement. Each

Durometer Shore A comes complete with a marked, calibrated test block made of steel (far more independent of temperature

changes than a rubber block) and carrying case.

The Durometer Shore A may be checked for calibration in 2 ways. The indenter pin protrudes from the foot of the instrument

2.46-2.54nm (.097"-.1".) when the dial reads zero. When the pin is inserted into the hole on the test block and the Durometer

Shore A is pressed down until the foot is resting on the test block, the dial reading should coincide with the number stamped

on the test block.

To achieve consistent results, UV curing

variables should be kept under constant

control in order to maintain a viable UV

curing manufacturing process. Although

the ability to control variables requires an

initial capital outlay, ultimately that

investment will lead to greater profits

through significant cost reduction.

A simple comparison would be the cost of

UV ink vs. conventional. The cost of UV

can be less if proper controls are put in

place to maintain minimum film thickness

without sacrificing pigment loading and

cure rates. If controls are not

implemented at every step of the

process, however, the entire UV curing

economy begins to collapse. Like any ink

system, if the color matcher mismatches

a gallon of ink, money is lost because of

wasted material, time and effort. UV

Process Supply has assembled in the

CURING CONTROLS section of this

catalog the necessary instruments for

attaining the goal of controlling the UV

curing process from start to finish. The

following tools help monitor temperature,

radiation and, finally, cure level.

TEMPERATURE MONITORS

As the production day advances, the

temperature of your processing

equipment increases, affecting the cure

rate. Ensure consistency by using

temperature monitors. Our selection of

temperature monitoring equipment

includes paper, non-contact, portable and

thermometer probes for specific and

general applications. Each will indicate

when temperatures change, and,

therefore, when adjustments need to be

made.

UV RADIATION DOSE MONITORS

UV radiation dose monitors are used to

determine the amount of radiation

emitted from a given source. That amount

is an important factor in determining the

product's degree of cure. Exposure

amount will vary with the type of emitted

energy, equipment design, condition of

the source, and conveyor speed. The

RadCheck System, UV Intensity Labels,

UV radiometers, and on-line monitoring

systems, such as CON-TROL-CURE's™

LM-9000 Lamp Monitor, aid in varying

ways in measuring and responding to

these changes to help prevent curing

problems.

RADCHECK & UV INTENSITY LABELS

The RadCheck System and UV Intensity

Labels help detect equipment

deterioration or failure. Detection of

changes in equipment performance will

lessen downtime, pinpoint the reason for

production failure, and reduce rejected

material. These devices are the most

inexpensive way to monitor ultraviolet

radiation. When exposed to UV rays, the

RadCheck test strips’ UV coating

degrades and permits a numerical

measurement equivalent to dosage

received. Intensity Labels gradually

change color in direct relationship to the

energy value received and permit

measurement using a densitometer.

UV RADIOMETERS

UV Radiometers more specifically

delineate changes in the UV output of

lamps used for curing inks, coatings and

adhesives. As changes tend to occur

gradually, they often remain undetected

until product failures are noticed. These

radiometers are accurate and easy to use

in regular monitoring programs. We offer

a variety of radiometers for diverse

production situations.

ON-LINE MONITORING SYSTEMS

The LM-9000 offers the most

comprehensive reporting data regarding

UV lamp performance to date. With a

high temperature sensor mounted

directly into the irradiator housing, these

systems provide continuous feedback on

system performance to verify proper cure

throughout a production run. These

systems can also be linked into database

software packages for establishing

production histories of lamp performance

for scheduling future lamp replacement.

VOLTAGE MEASUREMENT DEVICES

As the UV lamp dictates how much power

the ballast will supply during operation

(and not vice versa), continuous

monitoring of voltage draw can help

establish benchmarks for on-going lamp

performance. Mounted parallel to the UV

lamp, the Lamp Voltage Interface's

unique high voltage reading capabilities

allows it to provide numeric values for the

lamp's on-going energy. With such a

measurement, it can be determined when

operating voltage declines, and whether

the lamp is operating efficiently.

DEGREE OF CURE ANALYZER

The CON-TROL-CURE™ Ink Cure

Analyzer is a computer-based test

instrument that charts comparative

analysis of the cure level of crosslinked

inks, paints, coatings and adhesives.

Degree of cure is determined by

monitoring both the amount of solvent

penetration and the level of solvent

retention. Using a Micro-Solvent Swell

index number to define the degree of cure

generated, the detector works in

conjunction with a PC to plot the cure

level curve on a graph.

The information gathered is then used for

comparative analysis. Finished goods

that have previously passed quality tests

are used as a basis from which to

compare to production results that have

not passed successfully. The Ink Cure

Analyzer can accurately differentiate

among many levels of cure with precision

and repeatability.

The Ink Cure Analyzer has many

applications, including clear over foil; ink

printing over label stock; ink printing on

plastic; and clear over product.
