Session Outline • Talk about features of the seaside and common activities. Have the children ever made sandcastles?
• Explain that today they are going to experiment with soil and water to create their own ‘mud-castles!’
• Provide lots of equipment such as buckets, spades, funnels, flags, etc for the children to create and investigate with their own designs.
Open Questions • How can you make the soil softer/ harder/ firmer/ runnier? • Can you connect mud castles to make a fort? • Can you mould the soil with your hands? Differentiation: Mixed ability/ whole group work. Extension: Can you build additional features for your mud castles such as towers, moats, drawbridges, etc?
