Live BandsGunhild Carling is an absolute phenomenon. Whether she is singing, playing, or dancing, she entertains by combining her great sense of style and her furious energy. With her amazing dancing in the breathtaking routine from the movie “Hellzapoppin’”, Norma Miller became a living leg-end and role model for the entire Swing dance community. Although she was actually too young to enter the Savoy Ball-room, she participated in the contests and won over famous Whitey, who managed the best Lindy Hoppers of the Savoy Ballroom. Her presence, rhythmical playfulness and comical style won her the prestigious spot on Whitey’s team, even though she was still too young to enter the Savoy. After a lifetime in show business as a dancer, singer and comedian (e.g. Bill Cosby Show, Las Vegas), Norma Miller has enriched our lives with several biographies. With her recounts of the Swing era she continues to touch the hearts of modern Swing dancers.

Norma is the last surviving member of the great dancers from the Hellzapoppin’ dance scene. In December 2017 she will turn 97! She is still going strong, working on a Broadway show and touring with her own new show. At the Rock That Swing Festival you will have the oppor-tunity to meet her in person and hear her stories first hand. Don’t miss that unique opportunity.

At the famous Savoy Ballroom in the 1930s dancers enjoyed showing off their hottest new dance steps in weekly contests. In this spirit and tradition the Rock That Swing Festival runs various open contests in the dance styles of the Swing and Rock’n’Roll era. As in the Savoy the competitors will strive to impress the audience aiming for the loudest cheers in order to win the battle for the greatest honors and best prizes.

With their knowledge, ener-gy, commitment, and lifelong passion for the Swing danc-es Marcus and Bärbl have contributed enormously to the Swing dance community. Their teaching and performances have been influencing many dancers worldwide. Before the time of DVDs and YouTube their instruc-tional VHS videos were one of the first world-wide sources to learn the various styles of Swing dancing. In all those years they have continuously grown the com-munity and introduced many new international talents through the events they have created.

Since December 2011 they have operated their own dance studio in the city

center of Munich—the Vintage Club. Together with their team of internationally

respected teachers they offer regular classes, workshops and dance parties.
