We aim to produce appealing and appropriate designs that enhance the health and well-being of the existing landscape, for today and for the future. NEWS FOR FEBRUARY GARDENING LEAVE This month we dedicate our newsletter to a very worthwhile cause, and one in which the team at EA have been actively involved. We have been giving our time to the new Gardening Leave site at The Royal Hospital, Chelsea. Gardening Leave (gardeningleave.org ) was started in 2007 by Anna Baker Cresswell to provide horticultural therapy to ex-Service personnel with mental health problems. The garden projects are intended to provide a sense of structure & routine as well as a place to meet, allowing the ex-servicemen and women the opportunity to work outdoors in teams with other service leavers who have a shared background. Following on from the success of the first two gardens in Ayrshire and Glasgow, work has recently begun on the new project, situated within the grounds of The Royal Hospital, Chelsea. Exterior Architecture have helped with the design of the garden and are working alongside Tara Jeewoonarain, horticultural therapist, & David Carter, Garden Development Officer, to transform an under- utilised area of the Royal Hospital into a fully functioning garden with fruit & vegetable allotments (including raised beds & ladder allotments for the less mobile to dig), a willow walkway, woodland garden and plenty of peaceful places to sit, creating both productive and social spaces. The official opening will be taking place on 14th April, and photos of the finished garden will appear in a future EA newsletter. In the meantime, if you are interested in coming to the opening, or are interested in knowing more about volunteering or other forms of support to the project, please contact [email protected] . P.S.
