contentswhat is millboard?
The resilient Lastane® layeris highly resistant toscratches and stains.
The hand blendeddual-tone Lastane®
surface is UV stablefor longer lastingbeauty.
The unique Lastane® layer isdurable, anti-abrasive anddesigned to withstanddemanding applications.
Millboards are wood-free andas such do not host algaegrowth, maintainingMillboard’s excellent anti-slipproperties.
Millboardsare solid, not hollow. They are stable anddo not warp or rotlike wood.
The core is a blend ofnatural minerals bondedwith a polymer resin plusadded fibres for strengthand durability.
Millboards have been moulded from hand selected prime oak samples, replicating the beautiful
qualities of the originals. Only Millboards are hand crafted this way.
The textured, resilient top surface of the finished Millboard is made from Lastane® providing a
virtually maintenance free algae-repellent surface, which greatly enhances slip resistance in wet
conditions. The tough Lastane® layer is hand coloured with UV stable pigments and its inherent
anti-abrasive nature means it withstands demanding environments.
The wood-free polymer resin core is fibre reinforced for additional strength and self-bonds to the
Lastane® layer. Millboards are solid, not hollow and do not expand or contract, warp or rot like
wood as there is no water ingress.
The manufacture of Millboard is classed as a low energy process, making it more eco-friendly.

Millboard joist shoes are ideal for use
on all hard surfaces. They are also
widely used on roofs as they do not
puncture the roof membrane; allow
water to flow between joists and roof,
and create an air gap for
‘breathability’. Additionally the joist
shoes also have an acoustic benefit
to help reduce sound transfer. Quick
and easy to install with optional
height adjusting levellers.

self levellingpedestals
Millboard pedestals are ideal for raised level applications such as roof
gardens and balconies, allowing breathability which in turn prevents
rotting on joists. Pipework and services can be laid under the deck. The
adjustable pedestals are available in incremental sizes up to 20 0mm tall.
Millboard ring supports are designed for use in low height areas, creating
airflow and protecting the roof membrane, while allowing water to flow off
easily and prevent pooling.

Storage & Handling:Millboards should always be stored on a flat surfaceor level bearers max 400mm apart. Boards shouldbe stacked face-to-face, not back-to-face. Do notdrag the boards off the pallet or over each other, asit may cause surface abrasion or marking.
Pallets of Millboards should only be moved if safelystrapped to the pallet. Take care when handlingpallets. Wear gloves and long sleeves when handlingthe boards. Take care when lifting the boards as theymay be heavier weight than hollow extrusions due totheir thickness and length. We advise two people tocarry the boards.
Colours:To recreate the aesthetics of natural products, weintentionally add secondary toning colours. Theremay be variance in the same board or from board toboard in colour tone. This may mean that samplescut from boards may vary from the general colour ofthe boarding.
With our range of colours, you can choose what isbest for you. As with all products, the darker colourswill feel warmer in sunny exposed locations. Thelighter colours are normally used in such locations.
Whilst every care is taken to ensure consistency somecolour variation from batch to batch may occur. Toavoid this, we recommend that you order all youneed in one delivery. If you do have different batchesit is best to mix the batches to blend the colours. Aswith most things constantly exposed to ultra violetlight and exposed weather, colours will tone slightly intime, this is normal for decking.
On delivery if you find the colour unacceptable orbelieve them to be defective in any way, do not installthe boards.
Joist Spacing:Joist spacing of 400mm is recommended for normalresidential and light commercial use. On heavycommercial, bridges, balconies, moorings, doorwaysand steps use 300mm spacing. If you need to cutMillboard down along the length, then reduce thejoist centres accordingly.
A minimum of 3 joists are required for any cutboards. For laying 45º to the joist, then bring the joistcentres to 300mm for residential and 240mm forcommercial applications.
a brief installation guide
Fastening to substructure:Using the Millboard “DuraFix” stainless steel fixingsthere is no need to pre-drill or countersink, just screwstraight in. When fixing push down, start the driverslowly then speed up; then go slow when driving thehead of the screw through the Lastane TM. Stop thescrew about 5mm below the surface. This shouldleave a small virtually indistinguishable hole. Usingnon recommended fixings or not fitting to guidelinesmay invalidate the warranty.
Two fixings must be used where the board crosses ajoist, we advise to use three at the ends of the boardson shorter lengths. The fixings at the ends of theboards should be fixed at a slight angle to preventbeing too close to the end of the board, positioningthe screws 20-25mm from the ends or sides of theboards. Board ends to be supported by a minimumof 18-20mm.
As the boards are dimensionally stable, they can befitted with only 4mm spacing and 2mm gap at theends of the boards. Boards may have a +/- 2%dimensional variance.
Best practise is to fix the boards at one end, then afixing in the middle adjusting spacing as necessary, then the far end. Then fix to the remaining joists. Werecommend working to a string line.
Cutting the Millboard:Millboard may be cut with a carbon tipped multi-purposed chop saw. As the formed end is lost whencut, these can be placed is less visual areas against awall or edging profile. Dispose of off cuts as refuse,do not burn them. When cutting the Millboard, youmust wear a dust mask, safety glasses, long sleevesand protective gloves. A dust bag must be used onchop saws. Boards must be adequately supportedwhen cutting.Visual exposed cut ends can be recoated with the‘Touch Up Coating’. Although the formed end is lostwhen it is cut, the Touch Up Coating blends it in withthe rest of the board colour. On a contemporaryeffect, some installers trim the ends of the boardsbefore butting them up. If this is done, fit a maximumof three boards before a 3-4mm expansion gap isneeded.
Fascia boards, Steps and Edges:We recommend that our purpose made edgingprofile is fitted to all steps and perimeters of the deck. They have been made with extra Lastane for theultimate resilient tough performance on these areas’sto prevent excessive wear. They are available in eithera Bullnosed or Ribbed profile. The Fascia boards andEdgings come in rigid as standard. Ensure that theedging is supported on a joist by a minimum of25mm. It is advisable to trim the ends to butt tightlywhen fitting both edging and fascias. For the bestvisual effect stagger the edging and fascia joints sothey are not in line with each other.
We also can manufacture both styles of edgings inan Ultra-Flexible material for curved designs. Thesecan be curved to follow a maximum convex diameterof 3 metres. These Ultra-Flexible profiles need to bewarmed to at least room temperature beforebending. When fixing, start from the end and workalong fixing at 300mm intervals as you go. Pilot drillthe holes on the Ultra Flexible. This material will notconceal the fixings, leaving some fixing headspartially visible.

Care- Factory Sealed:All millboards are surface sealed in the factory toensure they arrive in premium condition. Aphenomenon occurs where initially rainwater formsin globules. This is entirely normal for the first fewweeks then will settle down in time as the elementsbreak down this temporary surface seal.
Cleaning:Millboards are manufactured with a non porousmaterial, therefore resisting both algae growth andstains. Fats and oils should be removed with a mildhousehold detergent and cloth. Do not use any kindof solvents, chemicals, abrasive cleaners, stains orany concentrated cleaners on Millboard. There is noneed to pressure wash as dirt does not becomeingrained, the surface texture is non porous, any dirtand grime may be simply washed off with soapywater and brushed with a broom before rinsing off.Just like internal flooring.
Marking:Time has shown that the Millboard Lastane surfacewhilst resistant to normal wear and tear, sharpobjects such as unprotected table or chair legs, spiked shoes or metal planter bases may leavemarks if dragged across the surface.
Winter ice and snow:A light application of granulated white salt can beused to keep your millboard ice-free. Do not userock salt which contains clay and grit, which can beabrasive. A spring clean with soapy water and asoft broom is advisable when winter is over.
