    Export:A function of international trade whereby goods produced in one country is shipped toanother country for future sale or trade. The sale of such goods adds to the producingnation's gross output. If used for trade, exports are exchanged for other products or

    services. Exports are one of the oldest forms of economic transfer, and occur on a largescale between nations that have fewer restrictions on trade, such as tariffs or subsidies.

    Export Receipts of Bangladesh (including exports of EPZ) during the quarter January-March, 2012 stood at Tk.451400 million or US$ 5455 million. On the other hand ExportReceipts for the quarters October-December, 2011 and January-March, 2011 wereTk.424157 million or US$ 5497 million and Tk.378701 million or US$ 5302 millionrespectively.

    Export receipts by mode of financing (Quarterly data)Export Receipts for the quarter under review increased by Tk. 27243 million (or 6.4%) or

    decreased by US$ 42 million (or - 0.8%) [-ve change in US$ due to exchange ratefluctuation.] And increased by Tk.72699 million (or 19.2%) or US$ 153 million (or2.9%) over the quarters October-December, 2011 and January-March, 2011 respectively.

    A comparative position of Export Receipts for the quarters (January-March,2012), (October-December, 2011) and (January-March, 2011) is shown

    below in table .

    Commodity wise export receipts (Quarterly data)

    In classification of Export Receipts in the quarter (January-March, 2012) by commoditiesreveals increase in the commodities Readymade Garments by Tk.27070 million (of whichKnitwear increases by Tk.2232 million and Woven garments increases by Tk.24838million), Leather & Leather manufactures by Tk.474 million (of which Leather decreasesby Tk.118 million but Leather manufactures increases by Tk.592 million), Terry Towelby Tk.235 million and Pharmaceutical products by Tk.152 million. On the other handexport receipts decreases in the commodities, Home Textile by Tk.2205 million, Raw

    jute by Tk.122 million, Petroleum & petroleum products by Tk.640 million andHandicrafts by Tk.1 million, Jute Manufactures by Tk.933 million, Fish, shrimps andprawns by Tk.2022 million, Bicycle by 338 million, Tea by Tk.15 million and Fertilizerby Tk.1282 million over the previous quarter.
