A big empty garbage can

A small clean room.

The previous letter describe Ahmad’s classroom. We call it a descriptive

text. We use a descriptive text to describe something, someone or place.

A descriptive text has two main parts:

1. Identification

2. Description

Look at the example:

Identification

I want to tell you about my

classroom.

Ahmad writes about his

classroom, not classroom in

general.

Identification usually

answers the following

questions:

What is the topic of the

text?

What is the text about?

This part

identifies a

particular

thing to be

described.

Description(s)

My classroom is next to the

library.

It is a big and clean room.

It has two white doors and

six brown windows.

The walls are green and

there is a picture on them.

There are twenty tables

and forty chairs.

In his letter, Ahmad

described:

The part of his classroom

(doors, windows, tables,

chairs, and walls).

The characteristics of the

classroom size (big),

color (brown, white),

and quality (clean).

This part

describes the

parts and

characteristics.

Who am I?

This game is fun and helps you practice your English.

Your teacher will appoint one student to stand in front

of the class. He/ she will be a person that everybody

knows, such as president, singer, actor or actress,

comedian, etc. but he/she will not tell you who he/she

is. Your job is to find out who the person is by asking

that person yes or no questions.

For example:

Your classmate chooses to be Britney Spears. Nobody knows

except your teacher. You can ask him/her several yes or no

questions, such as:

Are you a woman?

Are you a man?

Do you have short hair?

Do you have blue eyes?

Etc.

Limit the questions into 15.

Scrapbooking

Work individually to do this project. Cut a picture of

your family and glue it on a piece of paper. Under the

picture, write down a description of the person in the

picture. You may decorate your writing with beautiful

borders; cartoons, etc. give a presentation in front of

the class the next meeting. Once you are done, give it to

your teacher for review.
