Welcome

We are delighted to return to County Hall in London for the second FISITA PLUS - our annual one-day conference created to support this engineering generation’s development of safe, sustainable and affordable mobility.

The creation of our FISITA PLUS conference has been an important milestone for the organisation, following its hugely successful launch last year. For nearly seventy years we have provided a platform that allows technologists to come together and support each other with the advancement of technology, at whatever point in time this may be.

As we all continue to contribute towards this period of significant change within the industry, here at FISITA we’re pleased to open our door to new audiences, to allow others to learn what we already understand, for us to learn from others, and importantly, to allow engineers of different disciplines to engage with our community. So, our quest continues to support the engineering systems community as it evolves and delivers against the need of the industry around it.

The FISITA PLUS conference will continue to grow and evolve each year, which will raise the profile of FISITA and ensure we make a positive contribution to the emerging mobility agenda, and provide the important technical dialogue to what are and will become ever more complex matters.

Feedback from speakers and delegates last year was extremely positive, so we have retained a similar agenda for 2018, including the popular Leadership Interview and Headline presentation at the end of the day. We have a wonderful group of speakers, from a real mix of organisations that are key players in our fast-moving industry – their important insight will be extremely valuable to you and your peers, so we look forward to some lively discussions throughout the day.

Thank you for joining us and whether it’s your first time or not, it’s fantastic to have you as part of our international FISITA community.

A reputation for delivery at the University of BathWe deliver research conducted by the world’s best engineers looking to solve specific industrial challenges. By aligning our work with the needs of our industrial partners, our researchers have delivered innovative solutions that address key challenges such as engine downsizing, more cost effective electric motors, improved fuel consumption and lower vehicle emissions. We have a proven track record, having been involved in over 15 industry led consortia over the past seven years with a research value attributable to Bath of over £20m.

In 2015 our continued contribution to the advancement of the UK automotive industry was formally recognised when Bath became one of the UK’s leading automotive propulsion groups, selected as the ‘Thermal Propulsion Systems - System Efficiency’ Spoke of the APC. This means we are formally recognised by Government and industry as a leader in advanced propulsion systems research.

We’re now gearing up to take our automotive propulsion expertise to the next level with the creation of a new, state of the art Research and Innovation facility - the Institute of Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS). This exciting new facility, set to open in 2020, will combine Bath’s automotive expertise with dedicated equipment to enable ground breaking collaborations and innovation across academia and industry to create the next generation of ultra-low emission vehicles.

Durham University Electric Motorsport (DUEM) are Britain’s most established and successful solar car team. Founded in 2002, our student-run and led project involves designing, building, racing and marketing a solar car entirely outside of our academic studies. Our current vehicle has a top speed of 100kph, cruising on just 1kW with a 4m2 solar array. We believe it has the potential to change the future of motoring and perceptions of eco-friendly technology.

Last Autumn, we raced 3000km across Australia in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge against 45 teams from around the world, being the only UK team to do so. This was a monumental challenge, racing against teams with far larger budgets and numbers, but the team performed extraordinarily well.

In addition to racing, a big part of the project is exposing the technology to a wide audience, giving DUEM and our partners substantial, global marketing reach. This includes two UN Climate Summits in Marrakesh (COP22) and Bonn (COP23), Goodwood’s Festival of Speed, the London Motor Show and much more.

We are very keen to connect with you at FISITA PLUS and discuss potential partnership opportunities: whether it is utilising your world-leading technology on the car, connecting with students for graduate recruitment opportunities, utilising our extensive global marketing reach or our growing outreach program to inspire STEM students particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds. We are delighted to be presenting at FISITA PLUS and look forward to connecting with you there. You can follow the team on social media:

NRSTM is NUCAP Industries’ patented process for the surface modification of disc backing plates, adding a consistent matrix of raised steel hooks that facilitate a mechanical bond between disc brake plate and friction materials. The NRSTM hooks provide mechanical bonding while exceeding industry requirements for hear, shear and environmental delamination protection.

NRSTM is often called “the hidden benefit,” essentially invisible on a finished brake pad while delivering brake products that;

• Are Safer, Quieter and Longer Lasting

• Will not fail under extreme loads or corrosion

• Improve the Friction Bonding Process, in the plant and in-use

• Have been used inside close to 1 Billion Brake Pads since launch

Originally used in racing, truck and fleet application where brake integrity is critical to vehicle safety, NRSTM now available within North America’s leading brake pad brands.
