Sit and Be FitTuesdays 9/8 - 11/24 - 10:30-11:30 a.m. No class on 9/15.

This full-body workout is designed to be done from both a seated chair and a standing position. The class will emphasize exercises to improve flexibility, muscle and bone strength, circulation, and balance. It is fun and easy and suitable to people of all fitness abilities.

American Sign Language Class Tuesdays and Thursdays 9/29-11/5 - 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Interested in sign language? Do you want to learn how to communicate with a friend or loved one? Well, we have the perfect class for you. Come learn beginning sign language for free at the Appomattox Regional Library at Hopewell. Classes will be taught by Mr. Darrell Avery, a graduate of Gallaudet University in Deaf Education. The classes will be co-taught by Ms. Connie Pierett, a Hearing Specialist and Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for the Hopewell Public Schools.

Introduction To Origami!September 19, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Origami comes from the Japanese word “Oru” meaning to “fold” and “Kami” meaning “paper”. And that’s what it is exactly, the art of folding paper to make wonderful objects. Come listen to Ms. Lily Boykin talk about origami and show you how to do basic origami. Origami is a fun, easy and inex-pensive art form which can be shared with your loved ones.

Yoga for BeginnersThursdays 9/10-11/19 - 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m. There will be no class on October 8 and October 29

Receive the abundant benefits of yoga. This gentle class offers flowing movements at a gentle pace with attention to breathing and postures. You will see improvement in muscle strength, circulation, flexibility, and balance. It is suitable to people of all fitness levels. Please bring a yoga mat to class.

Introduction to PyrographySeptember 26, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Welcome to the “Introduction to Pyrography”, presented by Ms. Vita Davenport. Ms. Davenport is an artist who has exhibited her art at the Hopewell, Prince George and Dinwiddie libraries. Pyrography is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks applied from a heated object. It is an economical and fun art that can really spice up your DIY projects. Come learn how to start your own projects!

Poetry, Prose, and PizzaOctober 29, 6:00 p.m.

Come share your original poetry, prose or a selection from another writer. Or just come to enjoy a slice of Luca Italian pizza and a drink while you listen to other poets and writers. Nathan Richardson, emcee, maintains a family friendly and supportive atmosphere for all ages. Nathan is a published poet and speaker from Virginia’s Tidewater area. This event is sponsored by the Hopewell/Prince George Friends of the Library with generous support by Luca Italian Restaurant.

Southside From the HeartJoin our knitters and crocheters as they create items for local hospitals, nursing homes and shelters. Crafters of all ages and skill levels are welcome.

YOUTH PROGRAMSYouth NEW! Baby and Me: A new storytime for babies and their caretakers. A great introduction for you and your new family member to the wonderful world of books, rhymes and songs. For babies ages birth to 18 months old, this is a 6-week program beginning September 14. Program is limited to 15 babies and will last approximately 30 minutes.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten KickoffSeptember 12, 2015

Join ARLS in an underwater adventure as we kick off our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. We will go under the sea with an entertaining story time, have fun making sea creature crafts, and play exciting games. Whether you are already a registered participant or just want to learn more about the program, join us as we dive into reading!

Story Time is now offered six days of the week at various locations, including Evenings at Rohoic and Saturdays at Prince George!

Story time programs aim to instill a love of reading by encouraging parents and other special adults to read aloud to children. Activities in Story Time promote brain and language development for children from birth to age 5. At story time, children and caregivers are introduced to six early literacy skills that are essential for learning to read including print motivation, narrative skills, phonological awareness, vocabulary, letter knowledge, and print awareness. Please join us! No registration is required.

Early Literacy Classes for Familiesfeaturing Rhonda Lee, Literacy Specialist

Early literacy is everything a child knows about reading and writing before he or she can read or write. Devel-oping these skills will help your child become a strong, independent reader. It is never too early to start! Join Ms. Lee, an Early Literacy specialist, after select Story Time sessions at the Hopewell and Prince George libraries to learn ways to encourage early literacy skills in your children. Parents and caregivers will receive helpful tips and tricks as well as easy, inexpensive ways to help your child develop valuable skills and love reading!

American Red Cross Youth Leadership/Preparedness meeting for teens 13-17. We will learn about a leadership topic, discuss how to get involved as a Red Cross youth volunteer, as well as learn about steps to prepare yourselves, and your community, in the event of an emergency or disaster.
