1. Link between medical education and research ± equal in first two cycles
2. Thirty percent of medical schools do not offer research-related topics
4. In almost 30% of schools, students can avoid exposure to science training
5. Half of the medical schools do not require thesis writing for graduation
3. In most schools, less that 10% of students are actually involved in research

1. Requirements for obtaining a PhD vary vastly among medical schools
2. Tutors are required to have a PhD and permanents staff position
3. Average duration of the medical PhD study is 4 ± 2 years

1. Scientific training should become compulsory in medical education
2. All medical graduates should have the experience of writing a thesis
3. Scientific meetings of medical students deserve European support
4. PhD in Medical Sciences: standardization and international recognition
5. Academic standards in specialty training: enforcement of professional criteria
