LISTENING

Better to know There is one example played first before starting the exam. Copy answers in answer sheet with PENCIL only. Write in capital letters. Not just the first letter but every single letter.Tips for improving your Listening skills: Record English News, programs or anything and then play the recording and listen to each one of those recordings until you can hear every single word clearly that has been played. Try to break the sentence in to words and then try to make sense out of them. Make sure you have heard every word that you have read and may be used while writing.Tips for the Listening Test: Instructions should always be followed. You might have given a right answer and you might still loose marks just because you have not followed the instructions There will be 4 sections in Listening and every time before you answer, the instructor instructs you to look at a set of questions. Make sure you follow the instructor because when you try to look at multiple questions in that given time, you will always be killed by the tension levels. Underline the keywords in the questions, they will give an idea what your answer is going to be.

Why - reasonWhen time, dateWhat - Which - choiceWho - personWhom - personHow - reasonHow many - numberHow much amount, quantityHow often number of times

Always underline the tense of the question.

Example: How many times has Peter entered the door?Answer: 2(just a number). Do not write 2 times because it is already given in the question. You should be careful when you are reading the question. In this case its How many that you should concentrate on.

You might listen to different accents. You might listen to a conversation thats taking place in a cafeteria; make sure you do not get carried away with the distracting sounds. Listen for any specific details such as dates, places, telephone numbers, years and any information which is important. Answer as you listen. Dont be struck. Keep moving forward. Make sure you are using all the clues. Whenever there is a word that is being repeated or spelled out, it might be an answer. Whenever there is a number that is being dictated, it might be an answer.

READINGBetter to know Reading passages are taken from advertisements, official documents, booklets, magazines or newspapers. Write with pencil Write in capital letters.Tips for maximising your score in Reading: Manage your own time. Divide the time into 15, 15, 20 for given passages, if you are writing Academic module. 10, 10, 15, 15 if you are writing General module. Use the first 2 minutes of this time to read the heading of the given passage and to read first and last sentence of every paragraph. Last 1 minute of the catered time should be spent to copy the answers on to your answer sheet. There are no negative markings, so predict the answers in the last 5 minutes of the examination if any questions are left unanswered. Dont read skim and scan. Understand the flow of the passage. Follow the instructions. Follow the patterns. Stick to the word limit. Dont stop finding the keywords, continue to scan there may be some other important information. Keep moving forward. Check for the instructions whether a word or an option can be used again. Try to understand and differentiate between actual information from additional information.
