In 2016 the Poble Espanyol began a profound pro-cess of renewal that has led to a clear improvement in its technological aspects and in terms of content. This included a complete audiovisual project through which it is now possible to discover the traditions, landscapes and the excitement of the festivals. In short, the soul of Spanish villages.

This year, you can immerse yourself in the soul of the people and the villages. You’ll enjoy a spectacular multimedia experience first hand through technol-ogy, especially in the Fiesta space. We have cre-ated a thread that guides you through this journey, consisting of activities related to the definition of a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Human-ity: “a cultural diversity device and creative expres-sion, as well as a motive force for living cultures”.

So, among the topics we present is flamenco, with-out doubt the most universally understood Andalu-cian artistic expression. The Mediterranean diet, also declared an Intangible Heritage of Humanity, is the source of inspiration for the special cuisine we have on offer.

Finally, we have some content available (only in Bar-celona) related to crafts and popular culture, which are ubiquitous elements associated with this univer-sal heritage.

Come and immerse yourself in the soul of Spain!

Following the directions of a facilitator, each student will create a piece that imitates the techniques used by spe-cialists in this discipline, creating something really eye-catching.

In the workshop, you will create your stained glass win-dow design, as well as cut the glass and incrust it with textures and your chosen colours.

Once you have completed the activity, we invite you to discover the stained glass windows found at the entran-ce of the audiovisual space Feeling Mediterranean Spain. Observe how the light hits them and you will see for your-selves the unique qualities these creations have, crafted by our artisan specialising in stained glass windows.

The workshop is held in our educational space.

There are many famous painters (Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Bar-celó) that have turned to artisanal techniques to produce their works. And this is just what you will be doing. Firstly, you’ll create a design in pencil on paper, which you will then to transfer to glass using permanent markers. You’ll finally apply colour to your creation, achieving a personal and unique result.

During the course of this workshop you’ll paint directly onto to the glass, using a very interesting technique.

Always guided by a facilitator, you’ll design, draw and paint onto a small glass plate, trying to represent something of your own personality. Which is to say, you will work with a craft technique, while also introducing the element of art.

At the end of the activity, you will visit the Fran Daurel Museum, where you will find some pieces of art that are sure to amaze you, as well as one of the last of the glass furnaces in Spain.

Duration: 1 h 45

Minimum: 15 people

With the guidance and help of a facilitator, you’ll create a personalised leather wallet. To do this you will learn one of the most important techniques in leather craftsmanship: embossing. You’ll work on a piece of skin, in this case from a cow, which the Poble artesan works with daily and will have specially prepared for you. During the activity you will also work on embossing, which consists of engraving with the

use of a wooden mallet and various cutters, with different shapes upon damp leather, creating illustrations or bor-ders.

You’ll then make the necessary holes with a die cutter and attach some snappers and rivets. You’ll finally go ahead with the final stitching and touches, which will result in a useful, unique and original piece.

The objective of this activity is to customise a bracelet using basic leather craft techniques.

You’ll work the bracelet with cow skin and the twisted cord will be of goat skin. You’ll employ two of the most common methods employed in craftwork with this mate-rial: spinning and braiding.

Guided by a facilitator and with the help of a mallet and a die with different letters, each student will engrave a name or an inscription on their bracelet. While taking advantage of the holes in the bracelet, you’ll then braid the cord to decorate the piece. The possibilities are endless! So each bracelet will be unique and personal.

Do you want to learn this ancient craft technique? This is all about creating a pendant which represents some of the personal qualities of each student.

Under the watchful eye of a facilitator you’ll work on a copper base to prepare it for glazing. You’ll then apply the enamel with the help of a brush, which is simply powde-red glass. The process begins by devising a design asso-

ciated with some of the students’ personal qualities, using different shapes and colours. You’ll then carefully apply the enamel to the piece of copper using a brush. The process is then completed by firing the pieces in the oven. Once the copper pieces are glazed and have cooled off, the sharp edges can them be filed down. And now they are ready!

Food and art come together in this activity, organised by the Tablao de Carmen in the Poble Espanyol. This ico-nic spot has offered flamenco in its purest essence since 1988.

The Tablao de Carmen takes its name from the famous international flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya (Barcelona 1918 – Begur 1963) who on many occasions performed at the very same site where the renowned Tablao is cu-rrently located.

With a capacity for 150 people, the Tablao de Carmen recreates an intimate atmosphere that allows for an ex-ceptional rapport with the artists. With a cast of four professionals, a singer, a guitarist and two dancers, the students will be able to enjoy the art that is such part of southern Spain’s cultural DNA. The activity is offered exclusively for the group of students who, will also be able to take a drink or eat while enjoying the show.

We propose that you get more deeply into the passionate world of flamenco, which will turn you all into dancers and palmeros (clappers), feeling the indescribable energy and

magic that emanate from this art.

Clapping and dance define this activity offered by the Ta-blao de Carmen in the Poble Espanyol. For 45 minutes the students will learn the basic flamenco dance steps and/or clap along to the rhythms of this music that is so characteristic of and deep-rooted in southern Spain.

The Mediterranean diet was recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010, which highlights the importance of a healthy and balanced diet more than ever.

In this spirit, we hold a workshop in which all participants collaborate in the preparation of a traditional dish from the Spanish Mediterranean coast: paella.

The students then form groups and must prepare a paella following the chefs instructions.
