Experience Augusta This Summer!

For over 40 years, Augusta has been celebrating traditional music, dance, craft and folkways! We teach. We share. We celebrate the wonder and diversity of our cultural heritage. Augusta offers five weeks of intensive programming with classes taught by nationally known artists, July 10-August 13. From late night jam sessions to early morning waltzes on the porch, you’ll experience Augusta at its best!

Augusta Festival: August 12 – 14The Augusta Festival is an annual celebration of traditional music, dance and craft held in the Elkins City Park. There will be live music on three stages, a juried craft fair, children’s activities, craft demonstrations, jam sessions, workshops and food vendors. The Saturday Festival Concert will feature internationally syndicated Mountain Stage with Larry Groce, and a Gospel Sing on Sunday morning rounds out the weekend.

The Mountain Dance Trail, a cultural heritage tourism project of Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College, is celebrating its fifth season! West Virginia is the only state in the Appalachian region to have such a rich community square dance tradition.

Local callers lead all dances to live old-time music. Each community dance offers a unique cultural experience, entertaining residents and visitors alike. Beginners and children are welcome. Dances vary from big circle dances and four couple squares to waltzes, two steps and polkas. All dances will be taught and no experience or partner is required. Whether you dance or not, come share the joy of a square dance!
