PASTOR’S CORNER

Season of Lent Those of you who

read music are

familiar with “rests,”

those places in

between notes which

create a pause, allow

for rhythms to

develop, for silence to

be experienced, for

notes to resound without

clashing with another

unless dissonance is

desired. You will hear

me speak of Selah, or a

Hebrew equivalent of a

musical rest as we move through Lent. Our series

for the next several weeks is Selah - Life in a Minor

Key as we make room to pause and consider Psalms

in particular in preparation for a time of reflection

on Christ’s passion and resurrection. You do not

need to be at every worship service to understand

the whole series, but it

may be a time when

you make it a priority

to be with others in our

faith community to

pause, to reflect, and to

refresh.

Details for Holy

Week are not

worked out yet,

but will be shared

in the weekly

emails as well as

April newsletter.

We hope to

welcome some new members into our congregation

on Palm Sunday, experience a meal and communion

together on Maundy Thursday and observe Good

Friday with a service. The tradition of joining our

brothers and sisters from Exley and Olcott UMCs at

the lake for sunrise on Easter morning will continue

as well as a Joy-filled Easter Sunday morning

service here. It is a full schedule of coming

together, but I

am reminded at

this time of the

year that we

can’t get to

Easter without

Holy Week

Thank You! Ken and I would like to thank everyone who came to the Open House last

month! It was wonderful to have you in the parsonage and to get to know you better. There

will be more opportunities as the months go by for those who were unable to attend and we look

forward to those times together. - Pastor Marilyn

SAVE THE MICHAELS OF THE WORLD There will be an drug awareness and information gathering on March 12th at 7:00PM in the Town Hall presented by Save the Michaels. This event is being sponsored by our church and we will be providing refreshments. Please see Sandy Allen if you are interested in providing homemade cookies. There will also be training of Narcon and most Recovery Coaches from the Lockport Unit will be on hand to answer questions. We are blessed that the founder of Save the Michaels, Avi Israel will be speaking. Please plan on attending as we never know when this disease will present itself to our families or friends. We are hopeful that this presentation will save lives in the Newfane area.

ATTENTION ALL LADIES OF THE CHURCH On Thursday, March 26th, at 1:00PM, there will a gathering for all ladies of the church in the dining room for fellowship and refreshments. This is something new and we are reaching out to ladies who are not able to attend the regular Sunday worship service. There will not be a meeting or commitment sign up for anything if you attend. We will have cookies and coffee/tea. This is just a get-together to visit. We will also have a time to help you learn more about your telephone if you need help. We are hoping that there will be enough interest to make this a monthly event. Come and enjoy. Bring one of our shut-in ladies if they are able to leave home for a short time. For more information, contact Linda Anderson or Sandy Allen.

Lay Leader Ponderings March 2020

A new Bible Study will begin on Wednesday March 4th at 5:30 PM using the UMC Discipleship Ministries #See All the People initiative resource “Engaging Your Community: A Guide to Seeing All the People” by Junius B. Dotson. We, as a member of the Body of Christ, are called to make disciples of Jesus. We do this by being engaged with the community around us and in relationship with the people of our community. We need to see the people around us. It is our hope and prayer that this study will help us do that better. If you are interested in joining this study group but the meeting day or time is not good for you, let me know and we will arrange a second meeting day/time.

The mold remediation will take place at the parsonage on Wednesday, February 26th and they should complete the project in one day but if not will come back on Thursday to finish. New LED lights were replaced all over the church. The existing lights were used but new Led bulbs and ballasts were installed. 99 fixtures were changed. Looks much brighter now! The outside door locks will be changed on the church building. Trustees will work on an agreement that must be signed before receiving a key. Keys will be limited.

UMCOR says “Thank You” In response to the $270.00 donation made to the United Methodist Committee

on Relief (UMCOR) through your response to the Missions Committee special

offering and Sub sale, we have received a thank you letter from Thomas G.

Kemper, General Secretary and Roland Fernandes, COO and General Treasurer.

“Dear Friends in Mission,

Thank you!

The dear people you just helped with your gift to UMCOR may never have the

opportunity to meet you, but if they did, I am certain their response would be –

Thank you!

Since 1940, UMCOR has served as the humanitarian agency of The United

Methodist Church, providing disaster response and relief to areas impacted by

natural and man-made disasters around the world.

And through your financial support, you are serving within a vital network of

interactive relationships as UMCOR responds to increasingly-frequent and

destructive storms – sharing 100% of donated funds with those in need!

Together, may we continue to reveal the love of God for men, women, and

children of all ethnic, racial, cultural, and national backgrounds and to demonstrate

genuine love for our neighbors.”

We will observe UMCOR Sunday on March 22.

UMCOR lives out signs of Christ’s

extravagant grace in the world by

prayerfully working with

communities that are overwhelmed

by natural or man-made disasters.

UMCOR builds on the strengths of

what is already available in a

community and actively involves the

people affected in recovery efforts.

One of the wonderful aspects of The

United Methodist Church is that we

can do so much more together than

we ever could do on our own – and

through our connection UMCOR has

been doing this for 80 years.

By mobilizing trained volunteers

who are already living in the community, purchasing emergency supplies and food

from local merchants and channeling funds through trusted partners who are

already on the ground, UMCOR is uniquely positioned to respond quickly after a

disaster and to remain invested in rebuilding, even after these needs are no longer

in the news. Recovery is a long-process for individuals and communities.

UMCOR also works with communities to train leaders to address infrastructure

concerns, climate change and environmental degradation

The special offering received on UMCOR Sunday helps support the small but

impactful UMCOR staff who are specialists in disaster response and recovery.

Funds also ensure adequate training for emergency response coordinators,

construction volunteers, and case

managers who assist victims of

disasters, chain saw gangs and

sheetrock installers.

Because we join our church’s

offerings with those of United

Methodist congregations around the

world, UMCOR remains strong in its

day-to-day operations. When needs

are immediate, UMCOR can respond

quickly and efficiently with signs of

extravagant grace and expert

assistance.

This offering helps

make it possible for 100

percent of our gifts

toward disaster response

to go directly to help

those negatively

impacted
