Proposed ITINERARY

Day 1: Sunday, 11 February Arrive Delhi Participants arrive in Delhi independently. You will be met at the airport & transferred to your hotel – look for the Global Gypsies welcome sign! Please book your flights to ensure that you arrive by 5:00 p.m. at the latest. To give you time to rest, relax & be bright eyed & bushy-tailed for the next day’s activities, there are no plans for tonight & there will be no group meal. Optional dinner can be enjoyed in the hotel restaurant at your leisure (meal at own expense). If you are arriving a day early (recommended), there is an annual National Craft Fair happening in a nearby village with handicrafts from around the country – worth visiting & great gifts! Join Jan & Jeremy for this optional day out (10 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on 11/2/17 - US$15 for group transport). Or if you would like to arrange some other optional activity independently (such as a bicycle tour) please let us know! Day 2: Monday, 12 February Delhi - New & Old Delhi Tour After breakfast there will be an important welcome briefing by your tour escorts, then we board our coach & go exploring! Over the next two days we’ll tour New & Old Delhi visiting such attractions as the Community Kitchen at Gurudwara Bangla sahaib where you will help prepare (& later eat!) the meal which will be fed later that day to hundreds of homeless & disadvantaged people. We will also visit Qutab Minar, Bhai Temple, India Gate, Sikh Temple & more (includes lunch at local restaurant). Tonight we enjoy a special Welcome Dinner at Pind Balluchi Punjabi Traditional restaurant. Overnight at Jaypee Vasant Continental (B, L, D) Day 3: Tuesday, 13 February Delhi - New & Old Delhi Tour After breakfast, we continue our sightseeing to the Old Gandhi Museum & Memorial & Bhai (Lotus) temple. Later we take a guided heritage & bazaar walk (save shopping for another day!), ride in a rickshaw & sample delicious street food in Old Delhi & Chandi Chawk area. Tonight we enjoy a fabulous traditional dinner in a haveli – a private residence which has been owned & occupied by a local family for generations. Overnight at Jaypee Vasant Continental (B, L, D) Note: you may leave excess luggage/gifts etc at the hotel for the next few days if you wish as we will be returning to Delhi for one night on February 22.

Day 4: Wednesday, 14 February Delhi – Agra After breakfast we drive to Agra (210 kms, 5 hours). Upon arrival we check into our hotel & have lunch. We relax for a couple of hours before celebrating Valentine’s Day by watching the sunset from a surprise location. Tonight we enjoy a famous live show - “Mohabbat the Taj” (Expression of Love) which brings the Indian heritage alive, then have dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at Four Points by Sheraton (B, L, D) Day 5: Thursday, 15 February Agra Taj Mahal day! We make an early start to explore this amazing iconic attraction then return to the hotel for breakfast. Later we visit Agra Fort & Palace situated on the West Bank of the river Jamuna which resonates with rich Mughal architecture. We also visit the Mother Teresa Charity Home & Orphanage which is solely reliant on private donations to support their work. Day 6: Friday, 16 February Agra - Delhi After breakfast we drive back to Delhi (5 hours) to catch our 3:00 p.m. flight to Varanasi (1½ hours). Lunch en-route. We are met on arrival at Varanasi & transferred to our hotel. Dinner & overnight at Ramada Plaza Hotel (B, L, D)

Day 7: Saturday, 17 February Varanasi A memorable day - we take a sunrise boat cruise on the Ganges River to see devoted Hindus bathing & offering prayers. We return to the hotel for breakfast then visit Banaras Hindu University, Golden Temple & Bharat Mata Temple. After lunch at a local restaurant, we visit Sarnath (The Deer Park) where Buddha preached his first sermon, Sarnath Museum & Kashi Vishwanath Temple which holds special significance in the spiritual history of India. Later we take a drive into the countryside to Chiraigaon to experience life in a small village (small gifts for children well received!).

After lunch, we drive to the Sarai mohana villages, well known for their silk weaving. Tonight we take rickshaws to the banks of the Ganges where we witness the fascinating 1000-year-old Aarti Ceremony during which worshippers pray near the water by the light of candles & lanterns; we are also likely to witness flames on the riverbank as families cremate their loved ones in this holiest of cities. Overnight at Madin Hotel (B, L, D) http://www.hotelmadin.com/ Day 8: Sunday, 18 February Varanasi – Khajuraho Optional – early morning yoga class (1 Hour - US$10 - minimum 6 participants required)

After breakfast we are transferred to the airport for our 12:40 flight to Khajuraho (1 hour). We are met on arrival & transferred to our hotel. After lunch at the hotel, we visit the world renowned Khajuraho Temple Complex - over 20 of the original 85 temples have survived more than 1000 years. Evening free; dinner at own expense. Overnight at Madin Hotel (B, L) Day 9: Monday, 19 February Khajuraho – Bandavgarh After breakfast we have a full day’s drive (230 kms/6 hours) to Bandavgarh National Park with a boxed lunch. We head eastwards through partly cultivated & partly forested terrain to the village of Tala, the gateway to the park & check into our hotel. Bandhavgarh National Park protects a huge tract (693sq kms) of mainly deciduous tropical forest in the rugged Vindhya Range in the state of Madhya Pradesh in north-central India. This afternoon we will experience our first exciting, guided game drive in the park in search of tigers & other wildlife. Later, over drinks at our hotel, we will enjoy a private “Tiger Talk & Picture Show” by one of Bandavgarh’s leading naturalists. Dinner & overnight at Bandhav Vilas (B, L, D) http://www.bandhavvilas.com/ Day 10: Tuesday, 20 February Bandavgarh Today we will enjoy morning & afternoon escorted game drives in the park returning to the hotel for a siesta & lunch. We will be using open-topped jeeps with a skilled local driver-guide who has extensive knowledge of the park’s wildlife. Tiger movements are, of course, unpredictable, so it is quite possible to go for a couple of days without seeing one from your jeep, & then perhaps have two fantastic close-range encounters in succession! It is all a matter of chance – fingers (& paws!) crossed that we will be lucky! Dinner & overnight at Bandhav Vilas (B, L, D) Day 11: Wednesday , 21 February Bandavgarh We enjoy a morning game drive in the park (or have a sleep in!). After lunch we will be treated to a walking tour of Tala. The modest dwellings, the mud huts, elders smoking hookahs sitting on a cot, ancient traditions, local dress & customs will turn back the hands of time. Dinner & overnight at Bandhav Villas (B, L, D) Day 12: Thursday, 22 February Bandavgarh – Jabalpur Delhi This morning we enjoy our last game drive in the national park. We later drive to Jabalpur airport (4 hours) with a boxed lunch. We board the late afternoon flight (4:30 p.m./2 hours) for Delhi where we will be met on arrival & transferred to our hotel. Overnight & dinner at Jaypee Vasant Continental (B, L, D) Day 13: Friday, 23 February Delhi – Udaipur (Flight 6E 751 at 1325/1435 Hrs) After a late breakfast we are transferred to the airport to board our flight for Udaipur (1:25 p.m./1 hour) with boxed lunch. We are met on arrival & transferred to our hotel. This afternoon there will be a fun optional turban tying class! (USD$15 – minimum 10 participants required). Rajasthan is known for the beauty & elegance of its colourful turbans – they are an essential part of the traditional outfits worn proudly by the dashing Rajasthani men! Day 14: Saturday, 24 February Udaipur Optional – early morning yoga class (1 hour – USD$10 - minimum 6 participants required)

After breakfast we will wander through the markets & bazaars to visit the Jagdish Temple followed by a visit to City Palace - one of the architectural marvels of Rajasthan on the banks of Lake Pichola. Then we’ll relax on a motorboat ride on the lake before visiting the Garden of the Maids of Honour, the Folk Art Museum & Fatehsagar Lake. Overnight at Radisson Blu Hotel (B, L, D)

Day 15: Sunday, 25 February Udaipur – Delhi – Bharatpur A bit of a sleep-in today! After breakfast we will be transferred to the airport to board the 1:00 p.m. flight for Delhi (1¼ hour flight) with a boxed lunch. On arrival at Delhi airport, we will be met by our coach & drive through the countryside to Bharatpur (4 hours). We check into our hotel which is a magnificent converted palace where the maharajah is still in residence. Bring your bathers – the pool is gorgeous! Day 16: Monday, 26 February Bharatpur After breakfast we’ll take a guided tour of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary to see the wildlife that is active in the morning then return to the hotel. After lunch & a rest we’ll take an afternoon guided tour of the Bird Sanctuary to see the wildlife at dusk. Or just relax at the hotel & enjoy the pool & other facilities. Don’t miss the traditional puppet show in the central hotel courtyard! Dinner & overnight at Laxmi Villas (B, L, D)

Day 17: Tuesday, 27 February Bharatpur – Neemrana After breakfast we depart by road (180 kms – 5 hours) for the incredible Neemrana Fort Palace, one of India’s oldest heritage resorts high on a hill overlooking the nearby town. Boxed lunch served en-route. Afternoon free to explore the fort, relax or swim in the pool. Overnight & dinner at Neemrana Fort Palace (B, L, D)

Day 18: Wednesday, 28 February Neemrana Optional – early morning yoga class (1 hour – USD$10 - minimum 6 participants required)

After breakfast we go on a fascinating three-hour guided heritage/market walk in the ancient town of Neemrana. Remainder of day free to relax, swim in the pool or explore the fort & surroundings independently. Lunch & dinner at own cost. Overnight at Neemrana Fort Palace (B)

Day 19: Thursday, 1 March Neemrana – Mandawa After breakfast we drive to the desert village of Mandawa (4 hours) & check into our hotel – a renovated palace with fascinating corridors, winding staircases, turrets & individually designed rooms. After lunch we take an escorted walking tour though the cobblestoned streets of the ancient town, visit a school, admire havelis & temples, shop at local bazaars for traditional arts, crafts & souvenirs & are invited to a traditional local home where we enjoy ‘chai’ & henna hand painting. Before dinner (if time permits) there will be an optional cooking demonstration in the hotel restaurant. Tonight the Holi Festival begins with Holika Dahan - the bonfires which burn the devil - & we celebrate in a very special way! Overnight at Castle Mandawa (B, L, D) http://castlemandawa.com/

Day 20: Friday, 2 March Mandawa Today is a very special day for Hindus in India which we have made sure we included in the itinerary. It is Holi Festival - the Hindu spring celebration known as the "festival of colours" or the "festival of love". It is full moon & there will be singing, dancing, joyous celebrations & the traditional beats of dhol (drums). At several enclosed courtyards & grounds in the village, young men will dress in women’s outfits & dance wildly to live music & drumming. A local brew of “bhang” (a cannabis based drink served at Holi) is prepared & the revelry goes on late into the night – only to start up again in the morning! As we are specially invited guests, we should all wear traditional white tunics (called ‘kurtas’ or ‘pyjamas’) for the occasion which we can purchase inexpensively in the village beforehand. Day 21: Saturday, 3 March Mandawa – Jaipur After breakfast we drive to Jaipur (5 hours), the ancient “Pink City” enjoying the scenery & local colour along the way. We check into our quaint & historic hotel & relax for the remainder of the day. Or have some fun & enjoy an optional Bollywood Dance Class! Day 22: Sunday, 4 March Jaipur Optional – early morning yoga class (1 hour – USD$10 - minimum 6 participants required)

After breakfast, we enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Jaipur including Amer Fort with (optional) elephant ride, City Palace & ancient Observatory & lunch at a local restaurant. Later we enjoy an afternoon walking tour of the Old City starting at Troponia Gate and visiting vegetable market, arts school, temples and architecture of old city and finished at New gate. Here we will enjoy evening ‘street snacks’ such as pakoras, samosas & light dinner. Then we will enjoy some authentic street tea (chai) before travelling in tangas (rickshaws) to the famous Theatre Rajmandir where we enjoy a Bollywood movie at one of the oldest movie houses in India before returning to our hotel. Overnight at Diggi Palace Hotel (B, L, D) Day 23: Monday, 5 March Jaipur Today is Marigold Day! We visit several film sets used in the Exotic Marigold films including the flower market, bazaar & bus station, then take a fun ride in open jeeps to Kanota Fort & hotel where the country club scenes were filmed & the cast & crew stayed. Lunch at Kanota Fort. Later we will admire Nahargarh Fort at sunset with a photo stop overlooking the Water Palace before returning to town. Tonight we enjoy folk entertainment & mouth-watering Rajasthani food at the Naryan Niwas Palace. Overnight at Diggi Palace Hotel (B, L, D) Day 24: Tuesday, 6 March Jaipur - Cochin A full day travelling. After an early continental breakfast we are transferred to the airport to board our 8:30 a.m. flight for Cochin (2 hours). We change plans in Mumbai (lunch in airport at own expense) & catch our flight to Cochin at 1:20 p.m. (2¼ hours). We are met at the Cochin airport & transferred to our hotel. Dinner & overnight at Le Meridien Hotel (B, D) Day 25: Wednesday, 7 March Cochin After breakfast we spend a full day exploring Fort Cochin. We follow the footsteps of Dutch, Portuguese, British, Arab & Chinese explorers & soak up the cultural atmosphere as we stroll along the quaint narrow lanes. We visit the Dutch Palace, St. Francis Church (the oldest Protestant church built by the Portuguese in 1510 & the final resting place of Vasco da Gama) & India’s oldest Jewish Synagogue (& great shopping area) in ‘Jew Town’. A special local seafood lunch will be provided at local restaurant. Later we walk to the harbour where local fishermen still use traditional Chinese fishing nets Remainder of afternoon free to shop or explore. At dusk we will meet at a designated point in the Fort area to witness Kerala's signature performance of Kathakali, a classical form of dance, drama & music that is more than 400 years old. Remainder of evening free. Our bus will return to the hotel after the show, or you can stay on in the fort area independently & catch a taxi back to the hotel later (dinner & optional taxi at own expense). Overnight at Le Meridien Hotel (B, L) Day 26: Thursday, 8 March Cochin – Alleppey After breakfast we drive to Allepey (60kms/1½ hours) & board houseboats for an enchanting cruise through the tranquil waterways of Kerala. Bring an overnight bag - you can leave excess luggage at the Le Meridien Hotel if you wish. We stop at a ‘grog shop’ en-route to purchase wine, beer or spirits as these are not available on board. Dinner & overnight on houseboats (B, L, D) Day 27: Friday, 9 March Alleppey - Cochin After breakfast on the house boats, we return to port. We drive back to Cochin in our coach & check into our hotel. Remainder of day free to pack, shop or just relax – lunch at own expense. Tonight we enjoy a special Farewell Dinner – wear your best Indian regalia & don’t miss it! Overnight at Le Meridien Hotel (B, D) Day 28: Saturday, 10 March Cochin departure – end of tour After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey. END OF TOUR. MEET YOUR TOUR GUIDES & TOUR ESCORTS

Your Tour Escorts on the Exotic Marigold India Tour will be Jeremy Perks and Jan Barrie, Directors of Global Gypsies Tours & Training. The couple established Global Gypsies 20 years ago in 1997. The company offers a range of self-drive eco-adventures in outback Australia as well as escorted tours to such destinations as Antarctica, Borneo, Botswana, China, Morocco, Namibia, Silk Road and North and South America. Our clients come back to us again and again and are like part of our family!

In 2011, Global Gypsies won the Tourism Council WA Gold Award for Adventure Tours and the Bronze Award for Tour Guide Training. They have also published a top-selling book, How to Be an Award-Winning Tour Guide.

Born in South Africa, Jeremy is a professional Tour Guide and a former Tour Guide of the Year. In his youth he served as an Officer in the elite South African Defence Force (similar to the SAS) where he learned bush survival and leadership skills. He is a qualified mechanic and an experienced four-wheel-driver who loves flora and fauna and holds a certificate in remote area first aid. In addition to leading Australian and overseas tours, he also teaches four-wheel-driving, towing and tour guiding.

Prior to establishing Global Gypsies, Jeremy was the Managing Director of a major advertising agency in Johannesburg and managed a safari camp in Kenya’s Rift Valley. He immigrated to Australia almost 20 years ago.

Jan is a former journalist, travel writer and communications manager who is responsible for the administration, marketing and customer relations aspects of Global Gypsies. She was born in England, has lived in Africa, America and the UK, has travelled extensively and has called Australia home for over 30 years.

Our Delhi-based partners coordinating & leading the tour are Kipling Travel, a long-established & highly experienced touring & travel company. General Manager, Sanjay Pant (second from left, front row) will accompany us throughout our journey assisted by local English-speaking guides.

Kipling Travel specialises in organising customised tours through India, Nepal & surrounds for private interest groups such as ours as well as photographers, birders, wildlife enthusiasts & more. TIP KITTY: Please note that to cover tips & gratuities for tour guides, drivers, waiters etc (excluding hotel porters) for the duration of the tour, rather than asking for individual daily contributions, we will organise a ‘Tips Kitty’ in advance. Terms & Conditions

The “Exotic Marigold India Tour” is being operated and conducted by Delhi-based Kipling Travel (KT) under local laws, conditions

and regulations. Global Gypsies Pty Ltd of Western Australia (GG) is marketing the safari and providing two tour escorts.

KT/GG reserve the right to cancel the tour if there are insufficient participants (minimum 10/maximum 16).

Deposits are non-refundable (unless the tour is cancelled by the operators). All cancellations by clients are subject to an administration fee from 90-180 days prior to departure. A cancellation fee of 50% of total tour cost will apply within 89 days of departure. No refunds will be made if tour is cancelled within 60 days of departure. No refund will be given in the event clients fail

to join the tour or leave it early.

Travel insurance is compulsory and should cover most circumstances of cancellation as well as luggage loss and medical cover.

Whilst all care is taken, KT/GG do not accept liability for loss or damage to baggage, sickness or injury, or additional expenses caused by factors beyond their control.

Participants need to have a reasonable level of fitness to participate & be aware that a significant amount of walking is involved. Please be advised that in many countries there is no free health service and that local vehicle insurance is of limited value.

The client accepts that this tour is of an adventurous nature and involves an element of personal risk, and that neither KT/GG nor

their agents can be held liable for any injury, damage to property or loss of life caused. The client accepts responsibilit y for all risks involved.

Most visitors (including Australians) require visas for India. It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that they are in possession of valid travel documents including passports (with sufficient blank pages & 6 months’ validity), visas, health certificates etc. Refer to

page 1 of this document for information on how to obtain visas on-line. KT/GG cannot accept any liability for incorrect documentation.

The itinerary is subject to alteration without notice and is intended as a guide only. Alterations may occur due to road conditions,

flooding, mechanical defect or other reasons. Any additional expenses incurred by passengers are not KT/GG’s responsibility.

KT/GG and/or its agents and employees are unable to guarantee exact arrival and departure times, and will not be liable for

failure to make connections with any other service.

In the event of breakdown or other unforeseen circumstances, KT/GG reserve the right to substitute vehicles other than those

specified.

Properties used may change, however the same or similar standard is guaranteed. Hotels are twin/share basis.

There is no single supplement charge if we can arrange a ‘buddy’.

The client agrees to comply with the laws and regulations of the countries visited and to comply with all reasonable instructions of

the Tour Escorts & local guides relating to the safety and organisation of the tour.

This agreement to participate in the tour between the client and KT is made subject to and shall be interpreted and construed in

an Indian court of law. Any legal conflict with GG shall be resolved in the jurisdiction of Western Australia.

Please keep luggage to a minimum packed in soft bags with wheels which you can carry & handle yourself (maximum 15-20 kg).

I am aware of inclusions/exclusions in the tour package & understand that ALL prices are quoted in USD. The price is based on costs prevailing in 2017 and are therefore subject to change if consequently affected by Indian government taxes, exchange rate difference, increase in jet fuel or car fuel prices and/or any other influence beyond our control.
