With more than 11,500 visitors and over 1,500conference attendees at Sao Paulo's Expo CenterNorte, Intersolar South America 2016 attractedmore than double its expected attendance,making it South America's largest solar exhibitionand conference.
180 exhibitors showcased their products in 2016 –an increase of 60% over 2015 again, as alreadyin the year before. Combining local andinternational expertise, Intersolar South America
brings together the PV and ST sector to discuss thecurrent status and trends strategic to LatinAmerican PV markets, as well as technologyinnovations and new business opportunities.

In Brazil, distributed generation is drivingmarket momentum, especially now that 21of the 27 Brazilian states have declared thesale of surplus power as tax-exempt.To address the risk of potential mismatchesbetween generation and transmission, theMinistry for Mines and Energy has releasednew transmission guidelines. These shouldmake the process of adding capacity moretransparent, mainly by staggering the deadlines.
One continuing hindrance to new installationsin South America is finding affordable finance.The countries expected to experience thelargest installation volumes before 2020 areMexico and Brazil.
These are exciting times for the LATAM solarenergy market. The next Intersolar South Americawill take place on August 2017, by which time allexperts agree further new installations will be inthe pipeline.

After Brazil's government announced to postponethe reserve auction planned for July 29th, forwhich gigawatts of solar PV projects wereregistered, to December, Intersolar South America2016 webinar attendees were asked “Does thisinfluence your investment decisions?” 42% said”Yes, it does a bit” However, a total of 40% saidthat the postponement will probably not or notat all influence their investment decisions.
Asked whether Chile, Mexico, Argentina orBrazil will be Latin America’s PV leader by 2020an astonishing 69% of the poll participantsvoted for Brazil, 15% for Chile and Mexicorespectively, and only 2% for Argentina.
