Friday 29th May

Steers to £1330 Heifers to £1160

We did expect to see the stronger forward store cattle a good trade on Friday which again were tracking the higher

deadweight prices, but despite concerns of dwindling grass supplies grazing and all other types were still in tremendous

demand. Some cracking Aberdeen Angus steers topped the market with the best from Basil and Steve Cane of Plymouth

(25m) reaching a massive £1330 with others (27m) to £1295 for David and Stella Drew of Lapford and a gang of four (24m)

made £1220 for Russell and Alyson Retter of Cotleigh. A classy Charolais steer (22m) from Richard Brayley, Jacobstowe

eased to £1230 whilst the better of a fine run of Blonde steers (24m) Johnny Haimes of Sherford easily made £1210. Very

well turned out Limousin steers from Andrew Cleave of Christow saw cracking sorts (18-24m) to £1190 with further top

quality yearling Limousin reaching £975 for a bunch of four from Rob & Sue Greep of Cornwood. Richard Brayley saw a

decent Hereford steer (24m) fetch £1160 with best British Blue bullocks (28m) to £1140 for David and Stella Drew. Good,

traditional South Devon steers (23m) reached £1075 for a trio from Phil Coaker of Postbridge. A glorious Limousin heifer

(28m) from David and Stella Drew again topped that section at £1160 apiece with a pen of five grand Blonde heifers (25m)

from Johnny Haimes close at £1135 a head and a solitary Hereford female (30m) saw £1115 for Trevor and Sue Crocker of

Diptford. Super Charolais bred heifers (28m) from David and Stella Drew saw £1100 whilst slightly younger sorts (24m) of

that breed took home £1060 for the Shervington family of Hittisleigh. Later born heifers sold well and to £910 for a couple

of British Blue’s (15m) from Stephen & Susan Sallis of Jacobstowe whilst a bunch of four fine Blonde heifers (14m) from

Graham Tolchard of Kingsbridge sold for £795 apiece.

Sellers need not be concerned of the current rules restricting them for attending our sales at this

time….stock can be reserved or be sold on ‘owners approval’ if required (where we will ring vendors

immediately after they are sold for approval of their prices) Please contact the cattle team here at

Exeter for further information.

Identical numbers forward this week met a very good trade with the best from the Peter & Jake Chisholm of Hatherleigh

topping at £805 for Limousin cross steers (11m) with others off the same good farm being British Shorthorn crosses

obtaining £785 (10m) with younger Limousin cross steers reaching £760 (9m). AJ Cuming & Son of Moretonhampstead

showed wonderful South Devon steers with the best topping at £800 (12m) with other neat sorts a little younger (11m)

obtaining £750, J Routley of Postbridge just behind with South Devon steers obtaining £725 (11m) whilst Paul Harris of

Ivybridge obtained £670 again for Limousin cross steers (15m). Another run from James & Rebecca Martin of Lewdown

saw their Limousin cross steers achieve £645 (12m). Younger cattle also meeting demand all be it the talk of ongoing dry

weather and lack of grass yields. John Cuming of Feniton saw Charolais cross steers (8m) achieve £600 whilst Tom Friend

and family of Lydford achieved £490 for South Devons (5m). Heifers meeting good demand with the best from John Cuming

realising £655 for Limousin crosses with others off the same good farm to £620 and Angus heifers to £590. The Luscombe

family of Shaugh Prior saw Limousin cross heifers (13m) to £615 with South Devons off the same good farm levelling out

at the same figure. British Shorthorn cross heifers from WR & WA Woodley of Rattery obtained £580 (11m) with Blues
