The Rosetta stone was found in 1799, near Rosetta, Egypt.
It was an important find because it contains writing in both the ancient Greekand Egyptian languages. This made it possible to read ancient Egyptian, which had been very little understood before that time.Image: Napolean’s army in Rosetta, at the time when the stone was found. http://iw-chameleon.bravepages.com/2arch.htm
