On the 15th June, the first ever Summer Fair

was held by Year 6s at the Bridge.

The Year 6s created and ran a fantastic event

with drinks, games and prizes (all especially

for the enjoyment of the Year 5s).

The purpose behind this event was raising

money to improve the variety of books within

the library and also allow the Year 5s a chance

to visit and look around the Bridge.

The Fair was a success with a total of over

£300 being raised in the short space of an hour.

This marks the final

edition of A View From

the Bridge for 2018. What

a fantastic year full of fun,

hard work and growing.

The Year 6s are all ready

to go off and conquer their

new schools and continue

to work hard.

There is no doubt as they

leave us, that there will be

tears; they have been a

brilliant Year group that

have grown up so much

and touched a lot of our

hearts.

We will miss them but are

excited to see what they

get up to in the future (they

had better come back and

visit occasionally)

Good luck Year 6 – we

wish you all the best for

the future!

character to life. There is no doubt of

how hard all these children have worked

in order to get this show ready to

perform. Not to mention the hours spent

on the props and costumes, painstakingly

crafted by the dedicated TAs. What an

outstanding show this was. An extra

special well done to Mrs Peachey for

putting this all together!

The production is now over and what

an amazing performance by the Year

6s. The singing was superb and the

whole performance was seamless,

from the scene changes to the music.

It feels like just last week that we were camping out in the

countryside, packed into tents with our friends. I bet you are

wondering what it was like at Fairthorne. Well you will find out in

Year 6 but let me share with you my experiences.

There was kayaking and rock climbing – both experiences that will

challenge and frighten you – which will allow you to face your

fears. Luckily, you will have your friends there with you to provide

encouragement and support.

The bonds you build with your friends (and teachers that go) is

strong and rewarding. My advice is:

GO TO FAIRTHORNE!

Maths Top Tip

of the Month

Times tables should to be practised until they

can be immediately recalled. This will help when it comes to SATs

and for solving problems more efficiently.

as much as we have

over the last year and

that you take care of it

for the next Year 6s as

well.

There are so many

great opportunities

waiting for you here, a

chance to become the

best person you can

be!

Your teachers are all

lovely and will provide

you with all the

support you

need…whenever you

need it.

Make sure you

appreciate them! Good

luck!

From Year 6

Dear Year 5,

Are you excited to join

the Bridge? Well you

should be because

science expert Tillie

Stanley has predicted

that next year is destined

to be SPECTACULAR!

Year 6 is jam packed

with memorable

experiences and fun

things to do!

The amount of freedom

you have is multiplied by

100.

So are you ready to make

the big move…to

become to next amazing

Year 6s?

We hope that you will

love being at the Bridge

We have been doing a lot of activities linked to the

World Cup this term (some of the teachers have

definitely been just as excited as the children)!

We have looked at some of the players in terms of

being role models and also completed a country study.

Each classroom has had their own World Cup Sweep

and have been excitedly keeping it updated ready for

the next match.

Unfortunately England did not win but what an

excellent performance! They’ll win in four years time!

Investigation into a Missing Boy By Maddie Knight

My favourite lesson was English

with Mrs Cheek because we got to

read a book about a giraffe that

couldn’t dance. The moral was

don’t give up and don’t give up on

your dreams!”

All the Year 6s have had a great

time at their new schools but are

still a little bit nervous about

leaving. At least we know that

Newbridge has prepared us well

for the next chapter of our lives.

We can do well and we will do

well!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS

NOT REAL – IT WAS DONE AS

A HOOK FOR A PIECE OF

WRITING.

In year 6, an investigation took

place to figure out what happened

to a boy named Joe. Detective

Webb sent us a video, asking us to

solve the mystery and explain the

details relating to the incident.

Joe was found digging in the dirt,

with scratches on his arms in a

wasteland. Near him was a teddy

bear and a framed photo. Joe was

not speaking to detectives and had

been taken to a facility to undergo

treatment.

In the playground, a crime scene

had been set up – complete with

dirt, crime scene tape, a teddy and

photograph.

We had to investigate the area and

search for clues. From the evidence

we gathered, we were able to write

a newspaper report and an

explanation of our theory of what

had happened.

We all really enjoyed this activity

and found the scenario really

exciting and engaging!

Such a huge range of theories were

discussed and written about by the

Year 6s (incorporating a range of

punctuation as well)!

The Year 6s have all been off at

their different schools over the

last two weeks and have enjoyed

a range of different activities.

Some of the best sounding

activities included: sampling

chocolates and doing

experiments involving setting

chocolate on fire!

This is what Ricky had to say

about the week.

“For me, the best part of

transition was meeting new

friends and our new teachers.

During the holidays, it

can be easy to fall into

bad habits and become

lazy. So here are some

excellent tips to keep

you heathy on holidays:

Eat lots of fruit – fresh is

the best!

Run and play!

Drink lots of water!

Apply sun cream!

If it is particularly hot –

stay in the shade and

wear a hat.

Also remember that the

roads may be busier

during this time; be

careful!

Don’t be bored this

summer! There are so

many fun things to do.

You could:

Go to the beach

Go swimming

Visit the military

museum

Go up Spinnaker Tower

Walk around Southsea

Castle Go to the Pyramids

So get out there and

make the most of your

time away from school!

Summer Reading Challenge! Why not take part in a summer reading challenge?

How many books can you read in 6 weeks while you are on

holidays? Write them down and try to beat your classmates!

Reading is an excellent way to stimulate your mind and

increase your vocabulary.

Get your teacher involved in the challenge and there may be

rewards when you get back next year!

Try these books: Harry Potter, The Secret Garden,

Charlotte’s Web, Percy Jackson.

Try these authors: David Walliams, Roald Dahl, Enid

Blyton, Jeff Kinney, Michael Morpurgo.

An Interview With…6vR!

Mrs Garner

What a pleasure it has been having this amazing TA this year. Mrs

Garner has lived in Portsmouth all her life (making her an expert on

Portsmouth during WW2). Mrs Garner loves all the children in her

class but there was one child in particular who stole her heart: Bryn

Shipp-Scutt. We have all enjoyed her company in Year 6 and wish

her all the best in Year 5!

“Read it, you’ll

love it!”

Mrs Rensburg Mrs Rensburg is the best teacher ever;

Respectful towards everyone;

Some children think she is funny;

Really loves cats!

Everyone loves her;

Nellie is her kitten;

Sometimes, on Friday, she will hand out prizes;

Brilliant as she can be;

Unique and beautiful;

Resilient and amazing;

Go Mrs Rensburg! She is the best.
