Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Friends,

What a wonderful day it was for our special recipients of

our first Level One Awards for 2011. Respect, Friendship, Safety and Effort are values and positive behaviours which

are embedded in our school’s welfare system and are the

expectations for all, at Edward Public School. By acknowledging exemplary efforts in the achievement of

positive behaviours we recognise the qualities upheld in our school and also those important to Australian society

and the defining of citizenship. Our children’s personal development is part of the PD H PE Key Learning Area,

and forms a significant component of our teaching and

learning programs, and to the ‘reporting to parents’ process. The teaching of positive behaviours ensures

success in both our learning and playing environments. Congratulations to our students and their families. It was

so lovely to see our children so well supported by our

parents and grandparents and friends.

Winter has arrived BRRRRrrrrbrr. . . . and our winter uniform looks fresh, smart and trendy, and more

importantly, it is very warm. Hats are still required to be

worn every day, despite cloudy or inclement weather. Thankyou mums and dads for the great job you do in

ensuring students look part of the Edward Public School Team.

House Teams are gearing up for the Edward Olympics on Friday. The sprint track is marked out, thanks to that

dedicated and well-oiled team of workers who come in on the weekend, year after year, to make sure everything is

just right for the children on Athletics Carnival day. I did

notice some serious practising happening at lunch time amongst laughter and the realisation that one hundred

metres can feel like a very long way for little legs. I’ve been told there will be a spectacular march past to herald

the opening of our grand event. And, like all the children, our staff and parents are looking forward to a great day.

Don’t forget to wear your house colours and come

prepared for a day of excitement.

Best wishes,

Joy Soper

Commencing on Friday 27th May, Reconciliation Week will begin at Edward Public School with busy fingers,

Values Focus

Teachers and students will be talking about the value of BEING FAIR in their classes this week. Ask your child

School Fees - Voluntary Contribution

The voluntary contribution of school fees has been set for

2011. A letter was distributed to all families late last term. The payment of fees is of invaluable assistance to the

are $35.00 per student or $50.00 per family. Any donations greater than these amounts will also be

Thankyou to everyone who helped out over the weekend- it was wonderful to see parents having a chat and a laugh

while helping raise money for the Edward P & C.

The Mothers Day stall at school was a huge success. The children loved coming a choosing something very spe-

cial for the special lady in their lives- and many returned at recess to buy extra gifts rather than spending the money on themselves at the canteen. Thankyou to everyone who kindly donated gifts for the stall and to Diedre, Linda,

Fiona, Lisa and Jo who ran the stall. As a bonus the stall also raised over $400.

Cake wrapping on Saturday took no time with lots of helpers and lots of cakes. Thankyou to all of those people

who cooked the 71 cakes. Everyone who cooked a donated a cake was put into a draw with the winner of the $10 canteen voucher & chocolates being Nat Shaw. Thanks to Katrina, Sharon, Sarah, Robyn, Christina, Debbie and

Missy who helped prepare the cakes for the markets.

The BBQ was a huge success- stall holders flocking for the early morning egg & bacon rolls, and selling out of steak

sandwiches. People commented on the professional look of our stall and the speed of our service- possible only be-cause of all the parents who kindly gave up their time. Thankyou Bernie, Diedre, Glen, Missy, Tim, Lisa, Laurens,

Steve, Janette, Felicity, John, Scott, Bronwyn. The BBQ ran smoothly because of the organisation and time of its organisers Anthony Bradley and Felicity Walmsley together with the wonderful Mr Brad. These people were at

school on Saturday making gravy and packing trailers, and worked all day at the markets from 7am till 4pm- an

amazing effort! The BBQ was a great success.

The cake stall was again popular- selling out before 12pm. Thankyou to Christina who manned the stall all day. The cake stall raised about $700 with cakes being sold for $10 each!

Year 6 students also helped out at the markets with both stalls and their conduct attracted many positive comments. Thank you to Ben, Emily, Ashleigh, Sophie and Isabel for their help.
