Family Newsletter No. 19 ● January 15 – January 19, 2018

The Home & School Connection PUENTE’s instructors and parents each play a vital role in supporting students’ educational progression and in providing an optimal learning environment.

At PUENTE, our responsibility is to: create a collaborative learning community, using best practices, to maximize the potential of each student. We will encourage good citizenship habits.

As a parent, you can help support our efforts in a number of ways. Any assistance you can provide is appreciated. Suggestions include:

• Setting aside a time and place for homework.

• Asking your child daily what he/she learned at school.

• Ensuring your child’s punctual arrival and pick-up.

• Spending at least 20 minutes each day reading with your child.

• Providing encourage-ment and supporting PUENTE policy.

• Notifying PUENTE when your child will be out sick.

• Making sure your child is in class as much as possible to ensure that he/she receives the best education possible.

Los instructores de PUENTE y los padres juegan un importante papel en la ayuda del progreso de la educación del alumno y en proveer un ambiente de aprendizaje óptimo. Compromiso de PUENTE: Crear una comunidad de aprendizaje comunitario, usando las mejores prácticas para aumentar el potencial de cada estudiante. Les fomentaremos buenos hábitos cívicos.

Como padre usted también puede apoyar nuestros esfuerzos en diferentes maneras. Se aprecia cualquier ayuda que pueda ofrecer. Sugerencias incluyen:

campfire songs and other surprises. We encourage all parents and children to join their teachers and dress in your pajamas! Please don’t miss out on this special night! Don’t forget to bring a pillow, a blanket to sit on and “goodnight-books” to read together!

Helping Your Child Become A Better Citizen

Como ayudar a su hijo a ser un ciudadano responsable

We are always teaching our children something by our words and our actions. They learn from seeing. They learn from hearing and from overhearing. They learn from us, from each other, from other adults in the community, and by themselves.

In our daily lives, we can show our children that we respect others.

We can show them our compassion and concern when others are suffering, and our own self-discipline, courage, and honesty as we make difficult decisions. How we conduct our everyday activities can show our children that we always try to do our best to serve our families, communities, and country. We must try to be the best role models we can possibly be.

Siempre estamos enseñando algo a nuestros niños mediante nuestras palabras y nuestras acciones. Ellos aprenden lo que ven. Ellos aprenden lo que escuchan. Aprenden de nosotros, entre sí, y de otros adultos en la comunidad, así como por sí mismos.

Los niños aprenden a ver a las personas que los rodean. En nuestras vidas cotidianas podemos demostrar a nuestros niños que sabemos respetar a otras personas. Podemos enseñarles

nuestra compasión y cuanto nos importa cuando otros están sufriendo, y podemos mostrarles nuestra autodisciplina, valor y honestidad cuando tenemos que tomar decisiones difíciles.

La manera en que nos comportamos en nuestras actividades puede demostrar a nuestros niños que siempre tratamos de poner nuestro mejor esfuerzo al servicio de nuestras familias, nuestras comunidades y nuestro país. Tenemos que intentar de ser el mejor modelo posible.

This week we will begin to include addition equations for your child to complete. Please turn in the worksheets with the homework journal on Friday, January 19.
