B) Tracer Lamp (TL) colors: TLs are used to identify near and far end cross

connect points in the DSX-3 environment. DSX-XA-BB-24R Cross Aisle and DSX4H

series DSX-3 panels (see section 4) have one TL LED for each position (24 per

panel). DSX4R series DSX-3 panels have two TL LEDs (front and back of panel) for

each position (32 per panel). The DSX-3 color standard is red for DS3 and yellow for

STS-1.

All ADC panels with TL capability are shipped with -48V red LEDs. If the panel

position usage is DS3 or unknown, the red LEDs should be left in place. If the panel

position usage is STS-1, the red LEDs should be replaced with yellow LEDs. These

ADC part numbers can be used to order -48V yellow LEDs (see section 11 for -24V

condition):

FLEDY: 1 yellow LED for DSX4H DSX-3 or DSX-XA-BB-24R Cross Aisle panel.

STS-KIT-Y: Kit of 24 yellow LEDs for DSX4H DSX-3 or DSX-XA-BB-24R Cross Aisle

panel.

In some cases, panels with yellow LEDs may need to be converted back to red (STS-1

The preface section of all BOTC-TEGs is a data sheet that provides quick view information for weight, relay rack

footprint, peak (LIST 2)/nominal (LIST 1) power amperage, heat dissipation wattage, timing, alarms/remote

management, DF block and CLEI code requirements. The data shown is an ultimate condition (relay rack fully

loaded with equipment as designed in associated BOTC-TEG). Even though many relay rack deployments are

partially equipped, BOTC recommends basing initial space/engineering planning on ultimate data since existing

rack layouts typically grow to conclusion without follow-up involvement by planning personnel.

1. Overview:

Service Providers/Telcos are deploying Internet Protocol (IP) distribution networks for voice, data and video

services. A small number of Super Hub Office (SHO) locations have been established to provide collection points

for national video programming. SHO fiber circuits link up to the nearest Service Provider/Telco Point Of Presence

(POP) for nationwide, backbone transport. National voice/data/video signals are then routed to POPs in major

demographic areas and handed off to a Video Hub Office (VHO). Local video programming is collected at the VHO

and blended into the national voice/data/video signal. Routers and switches (Alcatel 7750 SR-12 and 7450 ESS-7

for example) are then used to distribute this combined service to Central Offices (CO) in the demographic area.

Alcatel 7330 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) ARAM-D equipment can be used for IP voice/data/video

(triple play) or voice/data only (double play) applications. Triple play is commonly known as Fiber To The Node

(FTTN) and double play as IP Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (IPDSLAM). 7330 shelves have three

service connections:

Fiber to network: CO IP switch (7450 ESS-7) 1Gigabit Ethernet (1Gig-E) port via FDF cross connect.

Copper to network: Traditional Class 5 CO switch Office Equipment (OE) line pairs via DF cross connect.

Copper to customer: Outside plant Cable Pairs (CP) via DF cross connect using Very high bit rate Digital Subscriber

Line (VDSL) technology if FTTN or Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) if IPDSLAM.

If customers want full IP service (including Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP), the 7330 shelf converts Ethernet

fiber based IP into copper IP and transports the signal on their local loop CP. If customers want traditional voice

service (instead of VoIP), the 7330 shelf blends IP data/video (if FTTN) or IP data (if IPDSLAM) with a CO switch

OE line and forwards the combined signal on their CP.

7330 ARAM-D shelves have a termination capacity of 192 full circuits (192 OE and 192 CP) using four Low Pass

(LP) cards. LP cards have four 25 pair connectors (1 pair is dead on each connector). The connectors are factory

designated 1-24 DROP LINES, 25-48 DROP LINES (both for VDSL or ADSL CPs) and 1-24 CO LINES, 25-48 CO LINES

(both for switch OEs). ARAM-D shelves should not be confused with older vintage ARAM-B shelves (only have two

LP slots for 96 circuit capacity).

Each FTTN 7330 shelf is a stand-alone system since the sum of IP voice/data/video for 192 customers is expected

to eventually fill 1Gig-E of bandwidth (7450 ESS-7 port). IPDSLAM 7330 shelves are normally set up in a Hub Host,

Host and Expansion configuration. Assuming an average customer ADSL speed choice in the 1 Mb/s range and a

call blocking ratio of about 4 to 1 (typical for traditional switch service), twenty shelves worth of CP capacity is

required to efficiently use an upstream 1Gig-E port (1000 Mb/s). Alcatel’s Feature Group (FG) 3.0.10 for 7330

ARAM-D limits IPDSLAM systems to four shelves with 768 lines (Host shelf fiber to upstream 1Gig-E IP port, three

Expansion shelves with fiber to Host shelf). FG 3.5 increases system capacity to twenty shelves with 3840 lines

(Hub Host shelf fiber to upstream 1Gig-E IP port, four Host shelves with fiber to Hub Host, fifteen Expansion

shelves with fiber to Hub Host or Host). This TEG includes FG 3.5 methods. There is no requirement that Hub

Host, Host and Expansion shelves be located in the same relay rack or contiguous racks since all fiber between

them can cross connect at the FDF.

Prior to engineering 7330 ARAM-D equipment, vendors must consult with Service Provider/Telco personnel about

the allowable CO component (shelf to DF cable plus DF jumpers) of overall shelf to far end customer ADSL/VDSL

length limits (see section 4), heat dissipation methods (see section 5) and Telcordia Miscellaneous Equipment

(ME) versus Transmission Equipment (TRE) DF terminations (see section 8 part D).

2. Equipment requirements:

This section provides part number and mounting/usage details for equipment in Alcatel 7330 ARAM-D relay racks.

See section 3 figure 3A for assembly details. Plug-ins are listed here but they may be ordered separately via

Service Provider/Telco Plug-in Inventory Control System (PICS) routines. See figure 3B to 3D for shelf layouts.

A) Relay rack: One 7’ Network rack with 1.75 x 23 drilling and 5” front welded guard box. See BOTC-SEG-0600.

B) Rear guard box: One 2” rear field mount guard box must be ordered as a separate item so that the footprint

depth is 12” (5” front, 2” rear). See BOTC-SEG-0600.

C) Fuse panel: One Telect 20HPGMT05R. 1.75” high. See BOTC-SEG-0500.

D) 7330 shelf: Alcatel 3FE24319AA 7330 ARAM-D shelf. Part number includes one 3FE24322AA AFAN-L unit.

Up to three shelves per rack.

Provide 2" x 2" vertical fiber protection duct on right front upright down to shelf 1 level.

When viewed in the horizontal position, 7330 shelves have forced ventilation intake on the right side

and exhaust on the left side. The shelves must be vertically mounted (90 degrees clockwise from

horizontal) so that hot air is not exhausted into the left adjacent rack equipment. The baffle above

each shelf is slanted up towards the rear so the shelf above pulls in normal temperature air from the

front aisle and the shelf below exhausts hot air into the rear aisle.

4. Length limit for ADSL/VDSL cables:

As shown in section 1, 7330 ARAM-D LP cards have customer CP ADSL/VDSL DROP LINE and switch OE CO LINE

service connections for 25 pair cables. CO LINE cables do not have a length limit within CO buildings. Prior to

engineering 7330 ARAM-D equipment, vendors must consult with Service Provider/Telco personnel about the

allowable CO component (shelf to DF plus DF jumpers) of overall shelf to far end customer ADSL/VDSL length

limits. The length of ADSL DROP LINE cables (7330 configured for IPDSLAM service) is a consideration in large CO

buildings (7330 rack should be reasonably close to DF) but not a critical issue since overall ADSL signal reach

(shelf to far end customer) is normally in the 14,000 to 18,000 foot range. The length of VDSL DROP LINE cables

(7330 configured for FTTN) is much more uncertain due to industry inexperience with video service over copper

(CO cables/DF jumpers) and the signal strength reduction impact of DF protectors. Preliminary lab reports

indicate an overall VDSL reach (shelf to far end customer) in the 2500 to 4000 foot range. In order to provide a

viable service offering, most of the VDSL footage must be dedicated to outside plant cable. Once the CO component

has been established, engineering vendors should subtract the expected length of DF jumpers (7330 blocks on

horizontal side to customer CP protector locations on vertical side). The remainder is a VDSL DROP LINE cable

(section 8 part A) length limit. This will probably impact placement location of 7330 racks (must be close to DF).

5. Relationship of heat dissipation methods and rack footprint:

BOTC-SEG-0600 section 8 provides an overview of various heat dissipation methods. 7330 ARAM-D shelf heat

wattage is 450 for FTTN, 330 for IPDSLAM Hub Host or Host and 290 for IPDSLAM Expansion applications. Prior

to engineering new 7330 ARAM-D equipment racks, vendors must consult with Service Provider/Telco personnel.

If method 8C is used (Space Planner fully manages and balances heat issue on each NE rack deployment job),

increasing the rack footprint width to compensate for heat (by using left/right spacers) is not required. If method

8A (100 watts per square foot) or 8B (arbitrary limit) is used, determine the application for all three 7330 shelves

and sum the overall heat impact. Then use left/right spacers to increase rack footprint so it meets the given watts

per square foot standard. BOTC does not recommend artificially increasing the rack depth (creates CO placement

issues for Space Planners) or reducing the number of 7330 shelves per rack (inefficient use of BDFB assignments

and rack fuse panel) to meet the wattage standard.

6. Voltage leak between redundant power loads:

BOTC-SEG-0500 section 9 provides an overview of the relationship between NE redundant power load isolation

and fuse panel alarm circuits. The 7330 ARAM-D shelf PWIO-B card (power connection from rack fuse panel) has

an unusually high 3 volt leakage between the A and B loads. A 20HPGMT05R fuse panel is used to minimize the

impact on alarm circuits (see -0500 section 9 threshold data). BOTC would normally consider using a TPA type

fuse panel (009-8005-0404) to allow for possible future 7330 shelf LIST 2 increases (beyond the 16 amp limit for

20 amp GMT fuses) but has not done so due to the -0404 panel’s lower A and B load thresholds

.

sizing responsibility and BOTC-SEG-0700 section 9 for wire material. Provide 4 two hole lugs (.25” studs on .625”

centers) for input feeder connections (wire size determined by vendor based on job conditions). 7330 shelf

peak/LIST 2 amperage (at 42.6V) is 14.01 for FTTN, 12.54 for IPDSLAM Hub Host or Host and 11.39 for IPDSLAM

Expansion. The three shelf total LIST 2 for rack must be calculated on each job. See BOTC-SEG-0500 section 2.

Step 2 (Chassis ground): Provide 1 two hole lug (No.10 studs on .625” centers) for 6 AWG wire. Connect lug to

relay rack ground using 6 AWG wire (see BOTC-SEG-0700 section 7 and 9).

Step 3 (Alarms): Run 24 AWG Black and Red-Black wire pair (see BOTC-SEG-0700 section 8) from fuse panel R

set NO/C wire wrap pins to CO alarm system (Dantel for example) status point. No connection required for V and A

set pins.

B) Power for 7330 shelf:

Step 1 (intra-rack wiring): Connect PWIO-B card -48V BAT A, BAT RET A, -48V BAT B and BAT RET B lugs to

rack fuse panel output positions using 10 AWG Slate wire (see BOTC-SEG-0700 section 7 and 9). Provide Thomas

& Betts (or generic equivalent) RC484 ring terminals for 7330 shelf and fuse panel ends.

Step 2 (fuse panel fuses and designation pins): Maximum drain is shown in part A. Fuse externally at 20 amp.

No need to coordinate external fusing with internal 20 amp slow-blow fuses on PWIO-B card (external 20 amps

fuses will fail first). See BOTC-SEG-0500 section 14 for GMT fuse and designation pin part numbers.

C) Chassis ground for 7330 shelf:

Step 1 (intra-rack wiring): The upper shelf mounting ear (when mounted vertically per section 3 figure 3A) is

factory equipped with two ground studs. Connect one of the lugs to relay rack ground using spare 10 AWG Slate

wire from part B. Provide Thomas & Betts (or generic equivalent) RC10-10 ring terminal, 10-32 nut and No. 10

lockwasher for 7330 shelf end. No connection required for second lug since both lugs are internally common.

D) RS232 back-up remote management for 7330 shelf:

7330 shelf electronics are manufacturer designed for in-band remote management via fiber overhead to an

upstream IP switch (Alcatel 7450 ESS-7 for example). This RS232 connection is an optional back-up link that

should only be run when directed to do so by Service Provider/Telco personnel. The PWIO-B card has an RS232

asynch DB9 female craft port (DCE rating). Pinout is 2 RXD/OUT, 3 TXD/IN, 4 DTR/IN, 5 GND, 6 DSR/OUT, 7

RTS/IN, 8 CTS/OUT (pins 1 and 9 are not connected).

Step 1 (provide and attach short ribbon cable): Provide one Cablcon (www.cablcon.com) T2834-0903-002

ribbon cable (2 feet long, DB9 male to DB9 female). Connectors on ribbon cable are low profile (0.5” high) right

angle and allow full closure of 7330 shelf front cover (if over RS232 craft port) or keep cable within rack footprint

(if RS232 craft port not under cover). Attach DB9 male end of ribbon cable to PWIO-B card RS232 craft port.

Step 2 (external remote management cable): Provide one of the cables shown below and run from DB9 female

end of Cablcon ribbon cable to CO Remote management system. See BOTC-SEG-0100 section 11. XXX in cable part

number denotes footage. If far end is:

BOTC-TEG-1150 E) Upstream fiber for 7330 FTTN or IPDSLAM Hub Host and Host shelves: Step 1 (run fiber conductors): ECNT-A card should have SFP module (see section 2 part N) in port 1 slot. SFP

has one set of TX/RX ports with LC connectors. Run 2 fiber conductors (see BOTC-SEG-0400) from SFP to the FDF.

If FTTN or IPDSLAM Hub Host application, cross connect is to IP switch (Alcatel 7450 ESS-7 for example) 1Gig-E

port. If IPDSLAM Host application, cross connect is to Hub Host downstream fiber (part F). Per section 3 figure 3A,

vertical duct material should be provided on the 7330 rack right front upright for protection and management of

fiber conductors.

F) Downstream fiber for 7330 IPDSLAM Hub Host shelf (to Host shelves): Step 1 (consult with Service Provider/Telco): Engineering vendors should consult with Service Provider/Telco personnel about the planned number of Host shelves in this IPDSLAM system. The once per system Hub Host shelf can support up to four Host shelves. Step 2 (run fiber conductors): Hub Host ECNT-A card port 2, 3 and GENC-E card port 4, 5 can have SFP module

(see section 2 part N) for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Host ECNT-A port 1. Each SFP has one set of TX/RX ports with LC

connectors. Run 2 fiber conductors (see BOTC-SEG-0400) from each equipped SFP to the FDF. Total conductor

quantity is 2, 4, 6 or 8. Cross connect is to Host upstream fiber (part E).

G) Downstream fiber for 7330 IPDSLAM Hub Host and Host shelves (to Expansion shelves): Step 1 (consult with Service Provider/Telco): Engineering vendors should consult with Service Provider/Telco personnel about the planned number of Expansion shelves for this IPDSLAM system. Hub Host shelf and each of the four allowable Host shelves can support up to three Expansion shelves (up to fifteen Expansion possible). Step 2 (run fiber conductors): Hub Host and Host GENC-E card port 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 can

have SFP module (see section 2 part N) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Expansion EDSE-A card port 1 to 4. Each SFP has one set

of TX/RX ports with LC connectors. Run 2 fiber conductors (see BOTC-SEG-0400) from each equipped SFP to the

FDF. Total conductor quantity is 8, 16 or 24. Cross connect is to Expansion upstream fiber (part H).

H) Upstream fiber for 7330 IPDSLAM Expansion shelf (to Hub Host or Host shelf): Step 1 (run fiber conductors): Expansion EDSE-A card should have SFP modules (see section 2 part N) in port 1,

2, 3 and 4 slots (associated with LT and LP cards 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively). Each SFP has one set of TX/RX ports

with LC connectors. Run 2 fiber conductors (see BOTC-SEG-0400) from each SFP to the FDF. Total conductor

quantity is 8. Cross connect is to Hub Host or Host downstream fiber (part G).

8. DROP/CO LINE connection and DF block layout/pair count/wiring color code:

A) Cable part numbers: The 7330 ARAM-D shelf has four Low Pass (LP) card slots (see section 3 figure 3B, 3C,

3D). Each LP card has four 25 pair connectors (1 pair is dead on each connector) that are factory designated 1-24

DROP LINES, 25-48 DROP LINES, 1-24 CO LINES, 25-48 CO LINES. To ensure compatibility for all conditions

(physical termination on LP cards, clearance between adjacent connector hoods, ADSL/VDSL signal transport,

grounding of cable to shelf via connector hood, unusual connector pin wiring pattern per figure 8A), BOTC

recommends the following Alcatel (www.alcatel-lucent.com) factory formed 25 pair shielded cables:

DROP LINES (need 8 cables per shelf):

FTTN VDSL application: 3EM18202AX. X denotes length (D is 50’, E is 100’, F is 150’, G is 200’, H is 250’, J is

300’, K is 350’, L is 400’, M is 450’). For example, 3EM18202AG is 200’. Lengths beyond 450’ are not

probable per section 4. Cable in assembly is Madison Cable (www.madisoncable.com) 50LEJLF001 (26 AWG).

OR

IPDSLAM ADSL application: 3EC17675BX. X denotes length (M is 50’, C is 100’, D is 150’, E is 200’, F is 250’, G is

300’, H is 400’, J is 500’, K is 600’, L is 700’). For example, 3EC17675BE is 200’. Cable in assembly is 24 AWG.

CO LINES (need 8 cables per shelf):

FTTN or IPDSLAM applications: 3EC17675BX. Same details as above.

BOTC-TEG-1150 B) Installation detail at shelf end: Secure 90 degree cable connectors to LP card with screws (provided with

cable assembly) on both sides. Tighten the screws with equal pressure to ensure that connector seats evenly.

Route cables to left (through 5” wide open area shown in section 3 figure 3A) and then to rear side of rack uprights.

Shielded cable in assembly is automatically grounded to shelf via connector hood.

C) Lead designations and color code at DF end: See table 8A. If cables are field formed, special attention is

required due to the unusual connector pin wiring pattern (as shown in table).

D) DF block layout: Telcordia has established two DF block layout methods for DSLAM related terminations. The

Miscellaneous Equipment (ME) method groups associated OE and CP pairs on separate adjacent DF blocks. The

Transmission Equipment (TRE) method mixes associated OE and CP pairs on the same DF block. Engineering

vendors should consult with Service Provider/Telco personnel about the ME versus TRE issue. Even though 7330

ARAM-D FTTN and IPDSLAM may be new applications, there could be network embedded DSLAM ME or TRE

methods that would set a precedent. Figure 8B, 8C detail the layout for ME and figure 8D, 8E detail the layout for

TRE. See BOTC-SEG-0300 section 2 or 8 for block part numbers.

E) DF block placement : Each 7330 ARAM-D shelf requires four 100 pair blocks. If the DF is conventional, blocks

mount on the horizontal side. Engineering vendors should consult with Service Provider/Telco personnel about

block placement along the DF horizontal side. Depending on the DF vertical side spread of customer outside plant

CPs, some jobs might group all four blocks (LP-1 to 4 OE/CP circuits) together while others may require different

locations for each single block set of LP OE/CP circuits (TRE method) or dual OE/CP block set of LP-1/2, LP-3/4

circuits (ME method). If the method is ME, circuit associated OE and CP blocks should always be placed adjacent to

each other (never separate a dual block set of LP-1/2 or LP-3/4 ME circuits). This will assist CO personnel when

they receive new FTTN or IPDSLAM service orders for three step jumper work (add jumper from 7330 OE block to

CO switch OE block, add jumper from 7330 CP block to vertical side customer CP protector block, remove existing

jumper between CO switch OE block and vertical side customer CP protector block).
