SOURCES

Your works cited page is extremely important to give credit to the sources that you found your information.

Make sure that as you are researching, you always have your works cited page up so you can add to it for every source you use.

Your goal is to have at least 4 sources.

For each source, you take notes in the form of at least 5 notecards.

You will have a total of 20 notecards.

Make sure to include the author of the source and the page number if applicable. If there is no author, make sure you put

the title of the article.

Copy the quote directly from the source to make sure you are recording the correct information. Later, we will paraphrase to

make sure we are not plagiarizing.

“There are a lot of people in New York and several sections of downtown. The rich are separated by a mile from the rest of New York foot travellers. They are elite and the sons and daughters of the rich are famous by birth not by doings.”

The gap between the rich and the poor is extremely large, but they all live within the same area of downtown New York. There are different smaller sections of this area that also emphasize the division between the two classes.

You need to have enough research from your notecards to fill three pages. Your appendix should be discussed in

the paper.

THESIS

Your thesis should act as a topic sentence for the entire paper.

What is a topic sentence?Remember, it tells us what the paragraph is going to be

about.For example, if your topic sentence says, “The strawberry is the greatest fruit,” then the entire paragraph must be about strawberries only. If you write about watermelon,

then your topic sentence should be changed to:“The strawberry and the watermelon are the two greatest

fruits.”

THINGS TO REMEMBER

Your outline is the final step before you begin your rough draft for your paper.

Some things to remember:- Only use third person! Do NOT use “I, me, my, you, we,

you all, etc.”- Use this trick: When you want to write “you,” replace it

with “one” or “a person.” Ex: If you know of someone suffering from this crime, you can suggest he or she move

to a shelter. If one knows of someone suffering from this crime, that person may suggest that he or she move

to a shelter.- Write in academic language NOT texting language.

IN TEXT CITATION

Many people use music therapy as a way to reduce anxiety. There are several different genres and unique artists that can appeal to one’s interest and personality. “Brain enzymes associate the rhythmic patterns and melodies of music as soothing factors” (Smith 7). This means that even if a person cannot express how he is feeling with words, music can still help them.

IN TEXT CITATION

Winter driving should always be done with caution. Snow tires and chains can be helpful to ensure that tires are not slipping and sliding. “Often times bridges ice faster than roads because of their elevated status” (“Winter Driving Skills”). Driving on the roads or on bridges can be dangerous in winter and drivers should slow down and proceed with caution.
