This booklet is designed to provide you with the basic informa�on required

regarding exam boards and specifica�ons for public exams.

General informa�on concerning Internal Exams, GCSEs, and A Levels is detailed at

the beginning of the booklet A more detailed breakdown of subject specifica�ons at

GCSE and A Level can be found under the various links provided with each subject

and qualifica�on. There is also informa�on on the Post Results Service offered by

the board and the School’s policy with regard to re-marks and re-sits.

Examina�ons Sat Throughout The Year

Third Form

School examina�ons will take place during November and June. Pupils can

expect examina�ons in all the principal academic subjects and the results

will be published for parents in your son’s or daughter’s end of term report.

Fourth Form

School examina�ons will take place in June in all the principal academic

subjects and the results will be published in the end of term report.

Fi�h Form

Fi�h Form Stoics will sit mock examina�on papers during the Lent term.

Prac�cal and oral examina�ons, as well as Controlled Assessment occur

throughout the Fi�h Form. All subjects will have terminal papers in the

Summer Series.

GCSEs

GCSE examina�ons are all sat in the Fi�h Form. The Examina�on Timetable

in the Summer term is a long one. Exams begin with the prac�cal and oral

components in early May, with wri�en exams beginning in mid May and

concluding towards the end of June.

Lower Sixth Form

In class progress exams will be sat at the end of the Michaelmas term. End

of year exams will be sat a�er half term in the Summer Term.

Upper Sixth Form

The Upper Sixth will sit School examina�ons during January. Their A level

exams will take place during May and June.

Linear A levels

Subjects consist of two or three exam papers sat at the end of the Upper

Sixth. In the Lower Sixth year, pupils will have a progress test at the end of

the Michaelmas term and a full internal School exam at the end of the

Summer term. For the science subjects, there is also a prac�cal endorsement

element. This will not contribute to the final grade but appears on the

cer�ficates as a separately reported result, alongside the overall qualifica�on

grade.

Grade Boundaries

The UMS system of marks will not apply to the Linear A levels. Total marks

will vary from exam to exam. Grade boundaries will therefore vary and

appear in the table on the next page once they have been published. At the

�me of going to print, we have no specific details of grade boundaries.

There are four elements to the course. There are three wri�en papers, all sat at the

end of the Upper Sixth. Two of the wri�en papers hold a weigh�ng of 30% each and

last for 2 hours and 15 minutes. The third of the papers is worth 20% and is 1 hour

30 minutes. The fourth element is a piece of independent coursework worth 20% of

the final mark.
