EXAM TIPS
EXAM TIPSThese are some tips for my students for when you take your exam.
* First of all, it is really important that you relax, and go to the exam convinced that you are going to pass it, because you know you CAN! So, leave stress and nerves out in the sea or even further…
LISTENING
You should always listen the first time to get the general idea of what is being said, and listen for the key words of what you are being asked.
If you try to do the activities from the beginning or first listening, you’ll probably miss part of the information…
LISTENINGAs you know this test consists of three parts. A multiple choice (a, b or c) You will surely hear something related to the
three choices given. But remember only one is possible and the others are distracters- some of which usually do not make sense at all.
A matching or true/ false and A Fill in the gaps. As they speak quickly you should be ready to fill the
words quickly , but not from the very beginning!
READINGThis also consists of three parts: A matching or true /false, a fill in the gaps
and a multiple choice (a, b or c). It takes time but... NOTHING MUCH!
WRITING
Taking for granted you have studied the different strategies to write the different types of composition seen in this course…
The important thing about a good writing is that your writing is clear and clean, so that your teacher can read and understand what you are saying without problem.
You should always separate the paragraphs clearly and leave margin.
You should write what you are asked and not any other thing which is not related to the topic.
Try to use the language (grammar and vocabulary) studied during the course. Otherwise this part will be assessed as zero!
Use the linking words and connectors you have learnt this year as well.
ALWAYS revise your writing (reread it) before you give it to the teacher: Check that you wrote the verb tenses correctly, that you didn’t miss an “s” of the third person singular; that you didn’t write CAN TOTO , MUST TO , ETC
Write the number of words asked not more and, especially, not less!
SPEAKINGHere is where and when you should relax more. I know
it’s not easy but… Remember it is only one of many times you are
going to speak in English. (You’ve been doing it all through the year)
Forget about the teacher as a judge, and concentrate only on what you must say and look only at your partner.
If you need to ask questions to the teacher, do it in English. DO NOT SPEAK SPANISH during the test!
Although it is advisable, your speaking will not be recorded unless you want to.
And … Remember the teacher is a friend and
praises all the effort you’ve done during the year, no matter how slow…
This is only one more test! OK? Good luck!
