Shaun Haney
1. Natural (Forests/woods)
Josef Stuefer Taking nature which hasn’t been disturbed or only a small amount and showing it to the viewer that the surrounding environment is quiet beau&ful.
2. Urban (Towns/Ci&es)
Guillaume Gaudet Taking pictures of developed ci&es and towns in day&me or nighNme to capture how life goes on in the city/town during different &mes of the day.
3. Inside of computer parts
To show the viewer the inner workings of a computer and showing the parts and components that it contains in interes&ng and eye catching ways.
4. Maps/Journeys
To take a series of photographs of maps to show certain loca&ons of par&cular interest to show the viewer a par&cular town/city/route to the reader, but place the map on car to show a sense of being lost.
5. Travel
To give a sense of movement to the photos when sat in a train carriage, with mo&on blur of passing buildings and pylons to show the viewer a sense of Direc&on.
David Bradford
On first look of the photographers work, any normal viewer of these photos can think that these photos were taken in the front seat of a car whilst the person was driving with an old film camera because of the fact that the image is in black and white or that the images where taken with a photographers camera and then edited to make it black and white. But the viewer does not know why David Bradford has taken these images in this way or why for the fact is he taking pictures whilst he is driving. These photos are part of a photograph series called ‘Drive by shoo&ngs’ that David started in 2005 in this series it is taken in the perspec&ve of the driver/photographer himself showing his daily life as a taxi driver around New York city, showing his routes he takes and how busy the roads get whilst he is driving. They are in this style to reflect that his life is the same dull rou&ne and that he dislikes his job? Although these photographs themselves aren’t very important on their own, but the whole series itself is important because it is showing a variety of different experimenta&ons of photos within a vehicle and many different loca&ons where he drives for his taxi service that he works for.
First idea photos
Strongest photo set 1
I found this photo to be the strongest from the first set because I like how I captured the traffic whilst in the car wai&ng to move, it shows everyday life and travel going to and from work or going from point A to point B. However I plan to move away from this idea and want to try taking photos of something's inner workings say a video game controller or a dismantled computer.
Finnabair
On first look of this ar&sts work, any normal viewer can say that they have made a pain&ng and then aaached a number of components to the image to make them stand out from the picture. But what they don’t know is that this is not a pain&ng, but instead it is a collage of many different pieces of a computer. And that they have taken these components from just finding them and then placing them accordingly into place to make the whole image. These photos or collages are pieces that have been put together to make a bigger image, with this in mind, this ar&st has made a series in this style of work. These collages are to represent that even with pieces that are part of things that you use everyday in a number of different places. Although these photo’s alone are what I am trying to work toward I feel as if it is a star&ng point and could possibly work with found components of a computer to show them in a different perspec&ve as if they can look like something that we see everyday and eye catching.
Doug Chase
Using found, and unused computer parts and components Doug Chase makes furniture and other objects out of these parts that he has found to make these items.
2-‐roses ‘High tech fusion’
Explores the boundaries between jeweler, art and fantasy. Fuses electronic and computer parts with personal adornment. Rejec&ng the tradi&onal approach of jewelry using found objects.
Second idea photos
Strongest photo of set 2
I found this photo the strongest out of the second set because the components look like small city buildings, and the white bordering and test are like a street map with the buildings around the components on motherboard. However, I am planning to change my idea for my final exam work to actually taking photos of the city because I want to try taking photos of buildings and try it at night to get a number of photos to experiment with levels of light and to take photos in numerous different spots around London.
Third idea ar&sts
Brian Kelly Brassai
These ar&sts can be related to the work I propose to do because it reflects on the ‘Outside’ aspect of the ques&on of ‘Inside, outside and In-‐between’
Final Outcomes
Exam Evalua&on Some ini&al star&ng points for my exam work for the theme ‘Inside, outside and in-‐between’ where I took each phrase of the theme and developed ideas around them. My subjec&ve frame for my photos for the phrases in the exam was to think of everyday places and items to express the phrases in the ques&on. A new and interes&ng idea I decided to take photos was in a moving car and take photos whilst on the move. This idea it was a mixture of all three themes but more in-‐between because you are inside a car which is then outside in the world. I think that my ini&al photographs were effec&ve because I was explain different parts of the ques&on, my first being ‘In-‐between’ and then ‘Inside’. With these photos for these categories, I see them as effec&ve in the way they represent those parts of the ques&on. Although I found my second set ‘Inside’ to be more effec&ve because I had a more clear idea of what I wanted to achieve, where as the first set ‘In-‐between’ was weaker because I didn’t know what I wanted to capture. I developed from the first idea to the second because the first idea I was unsure of what I wanted to capture so I decided to move on to something which I thought I could capture more effec&vely which I did in my opinion and I am more happier with my second set than my first idea. But then I decided to go in the other side of the ques&on I didn’t explore ‘Outside’ so I thought I could use that part of the ques&on in my exam final, but the second set got me thinking, because the electrical components looked like a city, and that is where I took the idea of ‘Outside’ and then put it into the final outcomes. I think my photographs where effec&ve because the two ar&sts I researched David Bradford and Doug Chase influenced me to look at all parts of the exam ques&on, David Bradford for In-‐between and Doug Chase for Inside. With these ar&sts in mind I experimented in their style before my final set of photographs. With the set’s before the final set. It narrowed down my ideas toward what I wanted to explore, and thus I explored the part of the ques&on ‘Outside’.
Each set of photographs for this project was an experiment in it’s own way. Because I was trying all different aspects of the ques&on first being ‘In-‐between’, then ‘Inside’ and finally ‘Outside. With the ar&sts in mind it helped me structure my ideas for the final exam piece that I would formulate. I am very pleased with my results for my exam in the &me that I was given to me to produce the final outcomes. Some of my photographs were in the style of Brian Kelly with the black and white toned photographs which I decided to use his style of work to give variety between colour and Black and white to make it visually appealing to the viewer. If I was to have more &me I would have incorporated more arts to my final outcomes to have more variety for the blurb book I was crea&ng. With this in mind in my opinion it would of largely improved my outcomes and give beaer variety.
