WOLFGANG FEICSHWIMMER

This piece by Wolfgang I chose specifically because of it’s relation to my project idea where I want to mix ink with water to portray a sense of encounter and mixture. The different streaks of ink without sign of water in this shot appear more diluted in different sections and really dark in others sections that create an interesting flow of tones in the whole composition. The circular formation to the left centre of the shot reminds me of an eyes; the streaks branching off look imitate the muscle of an eye that contract. The small dark section to the right of the shot stands out in its surrounding as there is more empty space at the right side of the shot.

My first shot I focused on strongly conveying different colored substances clashing and mixing with one another. Thick black ink in water I experimented with a couple of times until I found a shot where there's a combination of different shades of black. The lighter streaks of black in the background really help to strengthen the appearance of the darker streaks; the dark streaks in the centre of the bowl in focus stand out most in the whole shot due to the sharpness of edges.

Here I focused on the composition; The placement of the subject in the shot. I focused on the streaks where the surroundings are blurred and the whiteness on the right increases attention on the subject as it appears more complex and captivating then the void. Unlike the last shot the streaks in this photo are more distinctive as they are more separated from one another giving a more solid appearance, However the collection of colors in the subject aren’t as contrasting as the last reducing the impact of the colliding streaks of ink. I reduced the contrast of the surrounding to help give the streaks a more impacting effect though the slightly grayish water gently blends with some sectors.

Discarding a sense of surrounding I focused on portraying a variety of blending tones making up a interestingly shaped flow of ink, The top of the water as the ink enters the ink remains thin and fine as its separated off into differnet lines but as you flows further down the water you see the edge if the streaks become less distinctive and eventually combines once again showing the process of diffusion of the ink in a lower concentrated area.

This second piece by Wolfgang I also chose to feature because this particular piece has a stronger sense of dispersing and diffusion; the hazy sections in the centre of the piece look as if they’re behind the piece it’s self also making the surface appear translucent like, like tracing paper. The collection of hazy stands with more distinctive impacting stands make this piece the more captivating. The fluency and fluid appearance of the surrounding due to the appearance of the ink reminds me of vision under the sea strangely; the bottom section where there is a branch like effect resemble jellyfish compact and swimming in unity. The bottom left section of the piece resembles the detail on the skin the very subtle structure and design of lines randomly paralleling and conjoining with one another. Finally the random spots in the above right section add an interesting contribution to the fascination of the piece looks as if they’ve joined together to form these individual strands of ink.

As well as the idea of different substances colliding here I also focused more on a collection of color clashing. I closened up on the subject and made the background of the subject a much more duller color and blurred it giving the definition of the subject a lot more attention. I used a weaker lesser concentrated substance for the blue; an water color and a think strong green ink which appears much more distinctive and sharper appearance in the water. The blue water color I waited to drop to the bottom of the bowl as it’s becoming more and more diluted appears very gentle and soft in the water where the green ink stands out however blending gracefully with the green.

ALBERTO SEVESO

This piece by Alberto Seveso is more impacting than Wolfgang's pieces as it appears more 3 dimensional and vibrant. The gentle blend of colors within the streaks of ink complement the striking look of the flow of ink, this piece due to the thickness of its flows resemble smoke; if the flows of ink where all grey it probably could be mistaken for smoke. This piece by Alberto I would like to imitate in one of my pieces to portray strong sense of placement and shaping into an environment which the ink in this shot really appears to be doing; the different swerves and curves the interesting flows of ink take a lot of different shapes. The placement of the flow of ink in the shot gives the generally piece a sense of being poured in and gradually spreading out and like I mentioned before taking shape to it’s surrounding. The lighter colored sections depict the more diluted encounter as the meeting of the ink with water at the left back section seem longer hence the slightly faded color.

As well as the idea of liquid substances I also wanted to introduce the idea of the initially form of some paints a solid where the interaction with water changes its state, as it meets; encounters with water it changes it’s state becoming more gracefully and shapeless depending on it’s sense of surrounding/ container. The paint palette to the left of the shot I purposely placed to indicate the sense of it’s initial state before it become this gracefully shapeless blue substance in the water; which I tried to separate from the jar as I’ve left it alone in color. The flow of ink reminds me of jellyfish swimming around in the sea which similarly has a gracefully flow of movement.

In the background of this shot I placed a jar full of water to indicate a sense of mixture and encounter as the water changes the state of these solid paints as they meet, however the jar isn’t very feasible though I really liked the sense of plane of this particular shot, the centre of a attention is at the centre of the palette as the paint brush comes into this plane giving it full definition. The angle I chose particularly to focus on a collection of colors that I thought contrasted one another most as the rest gentle fade out of focus.

This development from the initial form I tried to emphasis the idea of mixture and encounter; by duplicating the image and placing them on top of one another the meeting of the inks in the centre interestingly abstracts the whole concept. The dark tone of the impacting black ink is complemented by the faint light tones surrounding the formed container. You loose a sense of reality when you realize the above surface duplicated from the bottom. The horizontal symmetry I find most fascinating in the piece; the center of the piece slightly gives away the joining of the duplicated shots however the surfaces join quite unnoticeably.

I’m really pleased with this outcome similarly to the last shot from it’s initially shot it’s emphasized to portray a sense of encounter and meeting. The flow of ink here join to form a very fascinating pattern, really joins interestingly to form a very abstracted piece which you couldn’t really relate to it’s initially stage. The bottom and top section of the flask have an really interesting clashing effect that portrayed encounters and meetings really well, the trail of the ink through the water formed an diamond shaped design when all placed together a almost portal looking manifestation; This piece though is a still image due to the flow of ink you get the sense of fluency and movement.

The darkness in the centre of the similarly to the last shot portray a sense of manifestation and has a portal appearance due to the blend of tones; dark in some area and lighter in others. The combination of colors work really well with one another the blushes of blue fade and blend into the strong green impacting streaks. The whole generally bubble form of the subject at first has more of an square form. Towards the edges of the flasks the streaks become more distinctive and undiluted as toward the centre more blurred and diluted. The insect design at the above centre areas of the

This developmental piece I didn’t really change a whole deal, you get a sense movement and lifting due to the ghost effect I added. The paint palette almost has a sense of mixture as the enlarged separate colors clash with the colors from the initial form. The translucency of the duplicated image slightly plays with the plane of focus within the general image, normally when focusing on a particular plane the closer bigger section generally has greater definition however in this piece the enlarged duplicated image adds to the fascination of the concept.

Here I cut up into sections my first initial photograph which really isn't notable in this shot; the closest 2 pieces of paper to the camera slightly has signs of stands of ink due to the swerves and curves. The paint palette specifically works really well with the plastic bag filter gives it a sense of separation between each colors in the shot. Interestingly you loose a distinctive sense of what's in focus however the darkness of some sections as well as the contrast hints that the paint palette is in focus where the crumpled paper is out of focus.

In this piece I also experimented with an arrangement of a paint palette and brush with the cutout of my first initial shot however her an majority of the shot is in focus so you don’t get a similar sense of distortion and abstraction. This piece isn’t as attractive as the previous I feel this lacks a sense of obscure arrangement adding to the interest of the shot however just seems ordinary, nevertheless unlike the previous shot there is an strong visual collection of colors and distinction between each tone in the picture helped by the added filter.

I’m really pleased with the final development of this piece; I believe I’ve successfully strongly portrayed an idea of mixture and encounter and interestingly experience. I added more sections of strands of ink however in different tone and color to create a greater variety of field more interestingly, this I feel did so creates a good blend of perception. The sharpness of each individual color contrast strongly with one another however still blends together to portray the imagery in the shot, the black within the slightly more hazy and blurred white appears more in focus and to have more definition; this Is because I decreased the size. The line in the piece plays significance as it symbolizes encounters, meeting and experience., I realized I failed to include shots where the ink is showed pouring into the solution/water, here the change of color after the line indicates the change in solution and again the significance of the lines.

This final feature by Mark Mawson included all the fascinating elements I wanted to include in the development of my water and ink mixtures. The inspiration of color combination and a sense of fluency and movement, all in one still image however portrayed to be some form of manifestation. The thick candy like cloud formed at the bottom of the piece all made up of bright vibrant spectrum colors clashing against one another, not only is the separate solutions colliding but the completely separate distinctive colors are too emphasizing a sense of meeting and encounter. I would like to represent the subtle combination of pink and yellow at the bottom of the shot forming this reddish pink as an form of experience as the mixture in itself is an minor form of a phenomenon. Similarly to my pieces the top section of the shot have a fascinating strong imagery of entrance and encounter being the most smallest and impacting strands in the mixture.
