This weekend, I went to the York Castle Museum in the city of York. The York CastleMuseum is a history museum with a difference. The exhibits arent about kings andqueens, they are about the lives of ordinary people: their clothes, their houses andthe items in them.

On the first floor, there are rooms from the past. My favourite room is from a farmershouse. It was very dark and the furniture was very plain. In another exhibit, there arecooking, cleaning and entertainment items. For example, you can see old vacuumcleaners, radios and stereos.

My favourite part of the museum was Kirkwood Street, a street from the 1900s. Ithas got a lot of the places weve got in modern cities. For example, theres achemists, a jewellery shop, a police station and a clock shop. But instead of a shoeshop theres a shoemaker, and I didnt see any clothes shops for women!

Next time you are in York, go to the museum. The museum is usually crowded in theafternoons and you need to wait in a queue to buy your tickets. So arrive early in themorning.
