Design Challenge:Convert standard SCALE‐UP Active Learning Cluster Design into Triangular Shape

Our original Active Learning Cluster was designed with the

assistance and guidance of Robert Beichner at North Carolina

State University.



“We decided on the SCALE ‐UP model because we wanted

to make our intro courses more interactive, and the model

allows us to do this with our typically 600‐700

students/semester we have in these courses.”

The goal of the Triangular shape was to increase table top reference room while

maintaining proper aisle spacing throughout the classroom.




An important design feature of the classroom for the Physics Department was to have more room for

the instructors and TAs to walk around during class which is essential for this teaching model.

Our Universal Hide‐Away Table creates a clean room for general purpose usage.



Dell’s all‐in‐one computers were utilized with a mix of both single and double student Hide‐Away tables.
