GHOST have released Ei equipped bikes this year. That s quite a coup for the brand. What are your views on the Ei system?

GHOST has a reputation in the UK for really impressive suspension performance, how do you test and achieve such good performance?

Although we are only a few months in to 2013, eyes are already looking forward to 2014. Is there anything

special we should be looking for?

This month we catch up with Ruben Torenbeek, R&D Manager at Ghost.

Ruby Riot, or wait, Ruben Torenbeek.

Product manager full suspension.

It’s mainly about creating the concepts of our bikes, so it involves market knowledge, trend watching and communication. In the end it’s getting the whole bike together and making sure that the work of all the involved departments is getting together.

I’m actually a dutch-guy, but moved to Waldsassen in Germany near to the headquarter.

Just over 2 years now.

Hard to say, I really love my HTX29 and AMR Plus, but if I had to choose it would be my DH bike.

I think we all at Ghost are proud to have the E:i Shock after the long development time, the feedback is great and in the company it’s quite a battle who can have an E:i bike for the weekend haha.

That’s great to hear, we spent a lot of time and eff ort on our suspension. I think the key for us is that we all ride bikes ourselves a lot, that closes the gap between the theory in the R&D and the feeling on the track. For example Adam Stasek, pro 4X and DH racer is also working part-time in our R&D department, it really helps a lot.

So do we! Well I really cannot say much, but what I can say is that we have never had so much fun on the trails around Waldsassen as we had in the last 4 months, even though we had a lot of snow... it rocks ;)Thank you guys, also to all the dealers out there, we appreciate your work in the UK and look forward to see you this summer on the Eurobike! Cheers!

With the launch of X-FLOW in 2012, LAPIERRE made the news by adapting its new PENDBOX technology to a trail bike for the fi rst time. The Lapierre X-Flow is the ideal UK trail bike with 120mm of rear travel coupled with a 130mm fork.

For 2013, the X-Flow geometry has been tweaked to provide more V ERSATILIT Y, EFFICIENC Y, and riding enjoyment thanks to a longer cockpit, a 130mm fork, 12x142 THRU-A XLE, and better rider positioning (shorter stem and 710 mm handlebar).

The X-Flow 512 pictured here off ers a fantastic price/spec ratio with EASTON EA 70 components, SRAM X9 and a CARBON front triangle. A FOX 32 Fit Performance tapered fork and MAV IC CROSSTRAIL wheels fi nish off this package at £2699.99

- O F F E R -

Neck brace wonder brand Leatt released their new range of 3DF body armour in 2013. Leatt have approached body armour design in exactly the same way as their award winning neck braces, absolute priority on functionality, fi t and safety.

In typical Leatt fashion rather than meeting minimum safety standards they have pushed the boundaries and produced perhaps the most protective range of body armour ever seen for mountain biking. The body protector featured below for example meets CE level 2 for both the chest and back protectors which requires that a maximum of just 12KN can be transferred through the armour in anvil tests opposed to 24KN for CE level 1 certifi ed armour. This means the Leatt 3DF back and chest plates transmit 50% less force to the body in an impact than standard CE Level 1 protectors.

The Leatt 3DF armour range includes a full body protector, chest and back protector, elbow and knee pads. Items are also available in junior sizes.

Hotlines have the full 3DF armour range in stock now.

Name? Steve Larking (Sales Steve, not Warranty Steve)

Age? 25 years young

Job Title? Sales and Tech Support

What do you actually do? I look after our dealer network processing orders, providing technical support and generally answering any questions dealers or consumers call the office with.

Years riding? 10

Favourite trail? Locally it has to be some of the more natural trails in and around Innerleithen in the borders. Farther afield, I’ve never ridden anything as

fun as some of the trails the Trans Provence route follows through the south of France. Basically if it’s fast, steep, a bit loose and I feel like I’m just on the edge of binning it any moment, I’ll enjoy it.

Bikes? Lapierre Zesty 414, Ragley Piglet.

You have a reputation in the office as being a bit of a shredder and a long history riding hardtails, any comment? The old adage that starting out on a hardtail will make you a better rider is definitely true. I crashed my brains out riding my first proper DH bike. So I sold that, and spent the next few years racing on a hardtail and learnt to

ride properly. I’ve yet to find a track I couldn’t ride on the hardtail but have to concede that my new Zesty is A LOT of fun.

What are your aims for 2013? Ride lots, get fitter, quicker and maybe enter a few races. I’d like to ride somewhere new at least once a month as well if I can.

Favourite Hotlines product? I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve seen of the Spank Oozy range of products, and hopefully a stem, handlebar and wheelset should be fitted to my bike by the time this newsletter hits your inbox.
