TRANSCRIPT
As summer quickly comes upon
another year, Gamma Kappa is
shortly coming to a close. The Un-
dergraduates are preparing for
finals and are all ready to head
home and relax for a few months.
However we as a chapter are not
going to rest. Our summer is
packed with many brotherhood
events and Recruitment events.
There are a few baseball games
planned to attend in Kansas City
and in St. Louis. We are also hav-
ing a float trip in June with the
undergrads and our new members
we have signed. However let me
tell you about what we have been
doing in Columbia over the last
month.
Greek Week came to a close
and we were able to capture 5th
place overall. We were able to
overcome not making it to skit finals
and placed in almost every cate-
gory. Our sports teams made it to
finals and the third place game in
Chapter Update
May 2009
Spring Alumni Event Our Spring alumni event started off great with dinner at Boone Tav-
ern on Friday night followed by an impromptu pub crawl where over 20
alumni made it out to celebrate being back in Columbia.
Saturday morning started off with the first ever Gamma Kappa
Alumni Association meeting, where we approved By-Law and elected
our board members. Please see page 2 for more information on our
newest board members.
After our meeting was adjourned we met up with the undergraduate
members at the stadium for some great barbeque and a few bever-
ages. After the game Alumni went back to the chapter house to meet
some more of the undergraduates.
For the alumni left after a day long event, we went to dinner and
then joined in on yet another pub crawl. Great times were had by all,
and all of us are looking forward to
our next major event for Homecom-
ing.
Thanks to all of our alumni that
came to the meeting and to everyone
that came out and enjoyed some
great brotherhood. A perfect week-
end to remind us all what it was like
when we were in college.

volleyball and Basketballs respec-
tively. We want to thank you for
all your support that you have
given us and we are still working on
bringing back the first place victo-
ries to the chapter.
I would also like to announce the
chapter’s success on Greek Honors
Night. We captured the Columbia
Cup, Best Alumni advisor, Best
Housemother runner up and Best
new membership program. The
Columbia Cup represents philan-
thropy and community service, our
chapter had the largest philan-
thropy on campus in which 700
sorority girls participate which al-
lowed us to donate $5,500 to the
Central Missouri Food Bank.
We are now in the homestretch
of sports in the Greek Leagues.
We are in second place in division
two trailing the leaders by 45
points. We have four champion-
ships left to fight for and we are
not giving up. Volleyball is looking
to snag another championship this
year and B team is looking to win
as well. Both were placed as the
top seeds going into playoffs.
Soccer has had an up and down
season plagued with injuries how-
ever coming into the last game of
the season and with a record of 2
and 1 they feel confident on return-
ing to the championship and winning
this time. B team soccer is also
looking to return to playoffs for
soccer and is ready to fight until the
very end.
We want to thank all of the
Alumni that were able to attend the
Alumni weekend we had in April
and say thank you for all of your
support. We are hoping to see a
lot of you this summer at some of
the local summer events. Keep
looking for details in future newslet-
ters. Also I hope that everyone is
excited for a new school year and
ready to come down for homecom-
ing. Again thank you for all of your
support.
Alumni Ritual on May 8th,2009
Please join us in Columbia on
May 8th, 2009 at 7 PM to witness
our Alumni ritual that will be
shown to all of our graduating
seniors.
This event is a great way to
remember our most sacred ritual
that we all saw years ago. The
ritual will only take about 45
minutes. After that plan on meet-
ing up with our newest alumni
members for dinner and some
celebrations.
If you are interested in attend-
ing the alumni ceremony please

MEET GAMMA KAPPA 1323—CHRIS BERG Brother Chris Berg
grew up in Excelsior
Springs, MO and gradu-
ated from Excelsior
Springs High School af-
ter spending two years
in Pleasanton, Califor-
nia. Chris rushed the
fraternity during his
freshman year while
living in the dorms. He said that he de-
cided to join because he really liked the
members after going through the recruit-
ment process.
Chris said that his associate class was
very small but diverse. Being from small
town, Chris found a lot in common with
Brothers GK 1324 Ryan Mitchell and GK
1321 Bret Tracy; and thought that it was
great to bond with guys from large cities
like brothers GK 1320 Clay Bellamy and
GK 1322 Eric Ludwig. Chris said that
GK 1325 Vipul Patel was probably the
first Indian he had met and Ludwig was
the first Jewish person he ever knew.
Within his class, Chris enjoyed the Kansas
City and St. Louis rivalry and loved giv-
ing Ludwig a hard time about the 1985
World Series.
Chris has many memorable moments
in college. Chris met his wife in college
and they never really went on a ―date‖.
They were always going to their chapter
parties. Chris said their actual first date
was at a Hardee’s on Valentine’s Day.
As a sophomore Chris remembers the Bid
Day Bash Party of 1996, one of the last
big Bid Day Parties held between the
annex and the ATO house. Mizzou going
14-0 in the Big 8 in 1994 and 1995 was
a great time for everyone.
Chris remembers well his associate
class walkout. They took the train to
New Orleans for the weekend. One
night, Chris got separated from the
group and took a cab ride to the Family
Inn hotel, however they were staying in
the Friendly Inn hotel. They also lost Rob
Ogle that night and found him the next
morning sleeping on a bench outside the
train station. Chris remembers every
work week before school started. After
working with all of his brothers to clean
up the house, they moved all of the
couches out on the front yard to play
stick ball, Frisbee and to help the new
freshmen girls move into Jone’s Hall.
While an undergraduate Chris was
the High Rho, Alumni Chairman, and High
Alpha, President. He was rushed by GK
1297 Pat Preismeyer, along with GK
1238 Tim Deves and GK 1313 Aaron
Deves.
Chris graduated in 1995 with a
Bachelors of Arts in Political Science. He
lives in Clayton, MO. He currently is an
in-house attorney for Smurfit-Stone Con-
tainer Corporation. He has been with
them for the past 5 and a half years
after practicing law with Husch Blackwell
and Sanders for four years.
Chris is married to Stacey Tovian who
was a Gamma Phi Beta at Mizzou. They
met during Chris’ sophomore year and
Stacey’s freshman year. They have two
daughters. Laine who is 5 and Kate who
is 2.
With our last Consultant (or ELC or
Traveling Secretary, whatever they were
called when you were at λXA) behind us,
the chapter has a lot to work on over the
summer. A lot of that involves organiza-
tional issues that they have had the past
semester, getting things in order to run a
more efficient chapter. We are putting
together a great Summer Officer Re-
treat, with one of the recent grads volun-
teering to host a session on Teamwork
for us. If you would like to attend it will
be May 30th; contact me for more infor-
mation. There are a lot of alumni events
coming up this summer and next semes-
ter. Please pay attention to the Gamma
Kappa Website to stay on top of every-
thing!
There is one important topic that I
would like to talk about this month. The
new fraternity house is in great need of
two things. The first would be a kitchen.
We have been having the meals catered
in by a cook that brings it from the KA
house every day. This costs us approxi-
mately $5,000 more per year than it
would to have our own kitchen. We also
HIGH PI—GK 1034 RON GRAVES are in desperate need of a new parking
lot. The gravel/blacktop lot that we
have is in very poor shape and is limiting
in size, holding about 30 cars. He have
a fraternity house that holds 39 men,
and with no open parking lots near the
house, we need to expand this parking.
It would also be nice for football game
weekends to make it larger, to allow for
more Alumni parking (free if you are a
member of the GKAA!).
To accomplish these things we need
money. We are not asking for dona-
tions, but loans from alumni that would
allow us to repay them back in 5 – 10
years, paying interest each quarter. If
we could raise $100,000 from these
loans, these important projects at the
house could be completed. We would
like the loan denominations to be in
$5,000 increments to simplify the interest
payments on our side. For more informa-
tion on this program, please contact me
If you know someone
graduating High School that is
going to Mizzou, and they would make a great Lambda Chi
Alpha member. Please email
ronnyballgame @gmail.com
with their information!!
MAY BIRTHDAYS
ST. LOUIS CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
50 St. Louis alumni came together at
the St. Louis Club in Clayton. Gamma
Kappa had 8 representatives there from
numerous different era's that shared
good stories from our time in the chapter.
Some of the best tales from college in-
cluded:
Remembering Mom Garst. We
shared stories that included couching
her in, answering her phone calls
and fire alarms, escorting her to
dinner, and bowling balls being
dropped on floors in rooms at 3 in
the morning.
Cooks. We talked about the meals,
and mainly breakfast cooked to
order by Georgia and Shirley. We
all remember seeing them smoke as
they cooked, but never remember
seeing them flick the ash off of their
cigarettes, and I didn't remember
asking for pepper in my eggs.
Watermelonfest. We discussed
the first Watermelonfest, how it
got started, and what the event
grew into.
Jones Hall. Enough Said.
CiderSwig. Every one of us had
some good CiderSwig stories.
We mostly remembered going
down the slide and what some of
us did to impress our dates.
Tailgating as Alumni. We have
had some good times rooting on
the tigers, and all of us agreed to
make it to some games this fall.
It was a good evening to get to-
gether and remember some of the more
enjoyable moments of college. We didn't
know then what we remember now, but I
believe that we all picked up some gems
along the way.

Meet Gamma Kappa 1560—Aaron Finnegan
Brother Aaron
Finnegan grew up in
Eureka, MO in west
St. Louis County and
graduated from
Eureka High School in
2007. Aaron is cur-
rently a sophomore
at the University.
Aaron decided to
become a Lambda Chi Alpha because
he notices that Lambda Chi had a very
strong new member program. He also
wanted to be a part of something that
could help him get involved on campus,
and when he joined Lambda Chi had
numerous members involved in external
organizations. The final push that
Aaron got to become a Lambda Chi
was his father who was a member of
Lambda Chi at Missouri State.
Aaron said that being an associate
was one of the best times in his life. He
got to meet his new brothers which he
knows will be some of his friends for the
rest of his life.
During Aaron’s time in the fraternity
he has held many positions. As a fresh-
man he started out as the historian, then
became the sober driving coordinator,
dance director and High Epsilon, social
chairman. Aaron then became the re-
cruitment chairmen and was able to re-
cruit two classes. Last fall had 28 new
members and this spring has 18 new
members. Aaron said that is most memo-
rable moment so far has been him being
able to see all the new members bond
and make friendships, taking advantage
of what Lambda Chi Alpha has to offer.
Aaron is currently the Public Relations
Chairman for the chapter.
Not only is Aaron very involved with
Lambda Chi Alpha, he has had numerous
positions on campus as well. Aaron has
been the Scholarship director, New
Greek Educator and Greek Ambassador
for the IFC Council. Aaron is a volunteer
for STRIPES (a university sober driving
program). He is a current justice for the
Greek Judicial Board, a GAMMA (Greek
Advocating a Mature Management of
Alcohol) steering committee member, and
is on the 2009 Homecoming Steering
Committee, where he will host the talent
portion of Homecoming skits. He is a
Trulaske Scholar for the College of Busi-
ness and is a current pledge to the Alpha
Kappa Psi Business Fraternity.
Aaron is currently majoring in Mar-
keting with a minor in Spanish. He plans
on graduating in 2011. Once Aaron
graduates he plans on moving to a big
city and finding a fun job.
