Part 1: The magic of an Evernote Note What can you do in a Note using your Android device? Tip: Hold your Android device in ‘Landscape’ mode. • Add audio. • Add files. • Add images. • Add a reminder. • Add text. Tap once inside the Note and start typing. • Add video. • Check boxes with text next to them. Tap once on the check box icon to select the checkbox. Tap

again on the checkbox to ‘tick’ the box. Tap again to ‘un-tick’ the box. • Work Chat. • Add handwriting. Tap the ‘+’ icon first, then tap ‘Handwriting’. Tap the arrow at the top left

hand corner of the screen, then tap ‘Done’ to save your handwritten Note.

To delete a Note: • Tap and hold the Note you want to delete. • Tap ‘Delete’ and the Note will be sent to your ‘Trash’ Notebook.

What can you do in a Note using iOS Devices (iPad and iPhone)? • Add audio. • Add images. • Add reminder. • Add text. Tap once inside the Note and start typing. • Check boxes with text next to them. Tap once on the check box icon to select the checkbox. Tap

again on the checkbox to ‘tick’ the box. Tap again to ‘un-tick’ the box. • Work Chat. Tip: Handwriting functionality does not exist for iOS devices. To delete a Note: • Swipe left across the Note and you will see the ‘trash’ icon. • Tap the trash bin icon.

Changing the details of a Note for Android and iOS devices, and Evernote Web: If you ever need to change the details of a Note, tap on the ‘i’ icon and then make your changes.

What can you do in a Note using Evernote Web? • Add attachments. • Share the Note via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and via a web link.

What can you do in a Note using Mac Desktop? • ‘command’ + ‘K’ to add a hyperlink. • ‘command’ + ‘shift’ + ‘U’ to format a selection of text as a bulleted list. • ‘command’ + ‘shift’ + ‘O’ to format a selection of text as a numbered list. • ‘command’ + ‘shift’ + ‘T’ to insert a to-do checkbox. • Encrypt your notes by typing the Note, then highlight the text, then right-click and choose

encrypt. Once this text is encrypted, you will need to remember the password. However, you can choose a reminder word as a backup to help you remember the password.

users). Task: Create a Note that includes these elements using an Android or iOS Devices: ❏ Add an image. ❏ Add text. ❏ Check boxes with text next to the check boxes. ❏ Record audio. Part 2: Images within Evernote If you have an Android or iOS device, using Evernote to take images or at save images is a really handy feature. The power of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Evernote is a powerful tool that can recognise text within an image. This feature is called ‘Optical Character Recognition’ and is often referred to as OCR. This is really important with those who have low vision or a vision impairment to be able to read text such as from a newspaper. Tip: If you scan an image into Evernote, or upload an image that has text within it, when you search within Evernote, it will also search within your images as well. Over the page is an example of searching for ‘Tech Coach HQ’ within my Evernote notes. All the highlighted words are where Evernote has found the search term.

How to add images into Evernote using Mac or Windows Desktop: • Drag any image directly into a Note for the Mac and Windows desktop platforms or, • Attach an image via the paperclip icon within a Note. How to add images into Evernote using mobile devices: When selecting the camera, you have several options: • Post-it© Notes • Photo • Document • Business Card (for Evernote Premium and Evernote Business users).

Checklist for taking images using mobile devices: ❏ Select the camera icon to take the image. ❏ Choose which type of image you would like to take (i.e. Post-it © Notes, Camera, Document,

Business Card). ❏ Tap the screen to focus the image. ❏ Tap the green button to take the image and then select the ‘tick’ when you are happy with the

image. Tap ‘Done’ to save the image in a Note. Deleting an image using mobile devices: Once you have taken an image, tap to the side of the image and you will get a flashing blue cursor, tap ‘Delete’ to remove. To Rotate, Crop or Clear Annotating for an Image using iOS devices (iPad and iPhone): This can only be done using iOS devices. Tip: Further details will be provided in Level 2, Week 2 of Organise Your Life with Evernote. • Tap the image within an Evernote Note. • Tap the (a) symbol. • Tap the ‘…’ icon. • Three options are to ‘Crop’, ‘Rotate’ or ‘Clear Annotations’. How to set up the Post-it © Notes feature within Evernote: Step 1: • Android Devices: Tap the’ Options’ button in the top-right corner. • iOS Devices (iPad and iPhone): Tap your account username. Step 2: • Android Devices: Select Post-it © Notes. • iOS Devices (iPad and iPhone): Tap ‘General’ then ‘Camera’, then ‘Post-it © Notes’. Step 3: Tap the Post-it® Note colour to change its associated Notebook, Tag, or reminder. Once this step has been set-up, you may begin using your Post-it © Notes to capture your handwriting!

Part 3: Add Attachments Mac or Windows Desktop: • Click ‘File’, then ‘Attach Files’ or click on the Paper Clip icon to add an attachment or use your

Evernote ® email address. or • Another simple method of getting documents into Evernote is to drag-and-drop them into

Evernote. • Dropping a document on the Evernote app icon causes a new Note to be created with the

document embedded. Tip: If you have Evernote Business or Evernote Premium you can search through Microsoft Office Documents and PDF files for text. This is not available in the free version of Evernote.

Android Devices: • Tap the ‘Attach’ icon on the Evernote Android home screen. • Select which file to attach.

or • When in a selected Note, go to the ‘+’ icon to attach either a file or picture.

Part 4: Record audio and speech to text When taking notes at a conference or workshop, or even dictating your own ideas down, Evernote enables you to record small snippets of audio within an Evernote note. Tip: How long do you have for recording audio? • 25MB per Note for Evernote Free accounts (depending on the size of the recording). • 100MB per note for Evernote Premium accounts (depending on the size of the recording). Checklist for Mac or Windows Desktop: ❏ Click on the ‘microphone’ icon, click ‘RECORD’ to start recording. ❏ You can type and record at the same time, but if you leave that Note, the recording will stop

and save.

❏ The microphone will change to a red colour. The ‘Record’ button will change to a red ‘SAVE’

button to indicate that a Note is currently recording. ❏ Click ‘SAVE’ to save the recording. ❏ Click ‘PLAY’ to listen to your recording. ❏ When you are finished with the recording, click ‘DONE’ to exit recording.

Checklist for Android Devices: ❏ Open the Note to which you wish to add an audio note or use the shortcut on the Evernote

home screen. ❏ On the top bar, tap the '+' icon. ❏ Tap ‘Record Audio’ to start recording a Note. On the top right hand side, you will see the time

length of your recording. ❏ When you have finished, tap the checkmark icon on the top left hand side to stop recording and

the audio will be saved. Checklist for iOS Devices (iPad and iPhone): ❏ Open a new Note. ❏ Tap the paperclip icon. ❏ Select ‘Audio’ to start recording. ❏ Tap ‘Done’ when you are finished to stop and save the recording.

Speech to Text: Android Devices: • Tap the ‘+’ icon and select ‘Speech to Text’. This will record your voice and convert your speech

to text. • Check the text and correct if necessary.

iOS Devices (iPad and iPhone): • Tap the microphone icon. • Check the text and correct if necessary.

Record Notes via ‘Siri’ using iOS Devices (iPad and iPhone): • To enable ‘Siri’ to work with Evernote, save your Evernote email address as ‘Assistant’. • Ask ‘Siri’ to email or message ‘Assistant’ with a list of the items you want to remember.
