EVENTS & EXPORT NEWSLETTER – JANUARY 2019
Dear All,
New Year, new opportunities! All members of the Wind Export Promotion and Events Platform are already extremely busy with
the preparations of this year’s export agenda. The first outbound mission/exhibition already took place to India, and the
upcoming period there will be events in Japan, Taiwan, Germany, France and the USA.
Holland Home of Wind Energy (HHWE) and the Netherlands Wind Energy Association (NWEA) started this year as officially
‘engaged’ by signing a letter of intention, the first step to a merger that will hopefully take place at the start of 2020. With this
collaboration we took the next step into the defragmentation of the Dutch wind sector. We will be assisted by the new export
committee that is dedicated to export activities for offshore & onshore wind. This export committee consists of representatives
from the Dutch sector that are members of HHWE and NWEA, RVO, IRO, NMT and FME.
We hope this newsletter is of interest. We have a full and exciting program for this year and hope to welcome you on one of our
events or missions!
Kind regards,
Members of the Wind Export Promotion & Events platform
FME, HHWE, IRO, NMT, NWEA, RVO
Please see here (in Dutch) the full press release of the cooperation between NWEA and HHWE.

FLOATING WIND EVENT (NOVEMBER 2018)
Floating wind – not a revolution, but an evolution in the offshore wind energy
On Thursday 22 November 2018 the branch organizations NWEA, HHWE and IRO, supported by The Hague Business Agency,
hosted a member meeting on the subject of Floating Wind in Scheveningen. The meeting was attended by over 100 guests.
During the plenary session, Bruno Geschier (Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at IDEOL & Chairman and WindEurope’s Floating
Wind Taskforce) called in from Tokyo to give his view on future market prospects, stressing the fact that Floating Wind provides
excellent opportunities to harness the best wind resources without depth constraints. With shares in offshore wind resources
in +60m water depth between 60 and 80 % in Europe, USA and Japan, the potential for floating wind capacity sums up to nearly
7,000 GW.
Erik Rijkers (Director Market Development & Strategy at Quest Floating
Wind Energy, LLC (Q FWE)) highlighted the strong momentum for this
market and its supply chain after the successful installation of several
demonstrator and pre-commercial projects and the first full commercial
projects planned. Spearheaded by a small number of companies, the need
to collaborate to find new and more cost-effective solutions as well as to
scale-up to get the competitive edge is imminent.
Finally, the plenary was concluded by Jos Leo (Business Development
Director at SBM Offshore) who elaborated on SBM’s objective to empower
the oceans to provide renewable energy for generations to come, with Floating Offshore Wind as one of the key markets. The
Approval in Principle (AIP) by the classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for their proprietary wind floater
design demonstrates the successful design of the floater and boosts further development towards large scale application of
floating wind concepts.
After the plenary part of the meeting, a Market Place (or mini-exhibition) provided a podium to thirteen companies to present
their proposition for Floating Wind and to interact with the
participants, while enjoying network drinks. Participants in the
market place included: Gusto MSC, Marin, Vryhof Anchors, IPS
Powerful People, SBM Offshore, SeaZip, BlueStar, SeaRenergy,
Mooreast, Blue H Engineering, Damen and TouchWind.
This first thematic meeting on Floating Wind, aiming at the exchange
of knowledge on this market segment by supporting and reinforcing
the network and synergies within the Floating Wind supply chain,
proved to be valuable to many of the participants. More to come in
2019!

Africa is the continent of the future, and that future is looking increasingly urbanized. By 2050, Lagos is predicted to be the
largest city in the world, while just 6 years from now there will be over 100 cities in Africa with more than one million
inhabitants. What does this mean for Europe’s nearest neighbouring continent? Which challenges does that bring along? How
can those challenges be transformed into opportunities? And in what way can the European private sector play a larger role in
the construction of cities in Africa?
These are all key questions that will be addressed during Africa Works! 2019, the largest Africa-focused business conference in
the Benelux, which takes place on April 8th and 9th in Rotterdam. Business delegations from Africa will fly in to meet the key
decision makers from the Dutch private sector.
Participants of Africa Works! 2019 will hear inspiring keynote speeches. Among the speakers are mr. Samuel Alemayehu, the
general manager of Africa’s first waste-to-energy plant in Addis Ababa, mr. Carlo van Wageningen, one of the founders of
Africa’s largest wind energy park and the representatives of Rendeavour, which constructs large satellite cities across Africa.
We will also hear from inspiring architects, like mr. Reinier de Graaf (OMA) and South-African mr. Duzan Doepel
(DoepelStrijkers). Mr. Henk Ovink, the Dutch ‘watch ambassador’, shall advise participating African cities on how to keep dry
feet amidst rising sea levels. The CEO of the Dutch Development Bank FMO, mr. Peter van Mierlo, and the Executive Director
of the Africa Finance Corporation, mr. Sanjeev Gupta will – among others – join the finance panel. Africa Works! 2019 shall be
officially opened by Rotterdam’s Mayor mr. Ahmed Aboutaleb.
After the plenary session, participants can join insightful workshops, participate in sector-specific round tables and take part in
personalised matchmaking, during which European companies can obtain valuable business contacts among the delegations of
African companies and governments.
Africa Works! Is held for the fourth time and is organized by the Netherlands-African Business Council. This edition is supported
by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NLinBusiness.

Taiwan is on track to be the second largest offshore market in the Asia-Pacific. Over 5.5GW of projects have been awarded to
date with potential to reach over 10GW by the end of 2030 with future auctions. Enough reason for a Dutch cluster of ten wind
companies to join the Holland Home of Wind Energy Pavilion at the Energy Taiwan in September 2018. The conference showed
that the opportunities for Dutch offshore wind companies are significant: Taiwan needs dedicated vessels, they need
knowledge on foundations, handling systems, logistics, planning, foundations and safety. As a leading maritime nation within
offshore wind, Dutch skills are high in demand. For Taiwan a Partners in International Business (PIB) programme is in place.

Are you active in the offshore renewable energy and interested in the emerging offshore market in France? Consider joining the
FOWT 2019 in Montpellier!
On January 25, the French government published its multi-year program ‘la programmation pluranuelle de l’energie (PPE)’ which
will guide the energy transition and the achievement of the climate targets for the next 10 years (2 times 5 years). This
programming is linked to the national strategy for a low-carbon society (‘Stratégie Nationale Bas Carbone (SNBC)’) in December
2018. In order to reach the ambitious CO2-neutral 2050, France faces majors challenges and will have to catch up in the energy
transition in the coming years.
After a successful Dutch participation in Floating Offshore Wind
Turbines (FOWT) 2018 in Marseille and an inspiring visit by a
French delegation with representatives from the government,
industry and knowledge institutions to attract Dutch-French
cooperation and knowledge transfer on G2G, K2K and B2B to a
higher level, and - wherever possible - to cooperate jointly, the
Netherlands Embassy, in collaboration with the RVO and
HHWE/NWEA, is preparing a calendar with relevant network
meetings in France to promote the Dutch transfer of knowledge
and solutions in the field of renewable energy.
One of those events is the Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWT) 2019 in Montpellier. The largest global event dedicated to
floating wind turbines. The objective of FOWT is to further the advancement of floating wind and to accelerate its implementation
into the global renewable energy mix. This event is meant to promote constructive discussions between all actors and stakeholders
of this emerging industry.
The Embassy has been able to negotiate a preferential rate of €240,00 excl. VAT per participants (instead of €432,00 full price)
with the FOWT2019 organization. This rate includes:
- access to the 3 congress days;
- invitation to the network lunches offered during the three days and for the network cocktail on April 24; and
- free participation in the B2B meetings organized by Europe Enterprise Network.
In order to qualify for this preferential rate, your registration must be made through the Dutch Embassy in Paris.
