PICNIC PLACES:Free public places where tables with chairs are available: in Bauska – at the old Dam, behind Bauska open-air stage, in Ķirbaksala; in Rundāle County – in the territory of the Mežotne Hillfort complex; in Vecumnieki County – in the territory of the Old and New Lakes; in Skaistakalne – in the territory of the sinkholes. Picnic places were you have to pay: at “Labirinti”, “Dobuļi”, Plūdonis Museum, Rundāle Palace Park, “Aus-ekļu dzirnavas”, Mežotne Palace.

ROUTESBicycle routes. Two routes have been established and marked. “Palaces in the vicinity of Bauska” (route No. 401) is planned as a one day long cycling route and it goes through Bauska and Rundāle municipalities, re-vealing the magic of Bauska Castle, Mežotne Palace and Rundāle Palace. Route “Rich Zemgale” (route No. 402) allows one to enjoy the natural resources of Baus-ka and Vecumnieki Municipality for two days.Boating routes. The most popular river for boating is the River Mēmele. Most popular routes are: from Lielmēmele to Skaistkalne, from Skaistkalne to Baus-ka and from Bauska to Mežotne. The routes are serviced

and provided with equipment by: “Krastmalas”, “Lutauši”, “Brīvnieki”, “Saliņas”. The recreation place “Lutauši” or-ganises fascinating boat rides every year – in June “Mid-summer festival in Lutauši”, in July “River Mēmele festi-val”, in October “Down River Mēmele in autumn”.Ideas for one day long hiking routes.From Bauska to Plūdonis Museum “Lejenieki” through the “Bauska chicken factory” ~8 km in one direction. From Bauska to Mežotne Hillfort along Ziedoņa Street ~13 km in one direction. From the centre of Skaistkalne to the territory of the sinkholes ~4 km in one direction.

View wooden sculptures of rabbits made by wood carver, “Zaķīšu pirtiņa” (Bath-house of Hares), exhibition about the creative work of Vilis Plūdonis. 10 RUNDĀLE PALACE MUSEUM AND PARK. Visit the restored palace and park of the Duke of Courland Ernst Johann von Biron. In spring, enjoy tulips and other bulbous flowers, in summer – the roses are in bloom. At the end of June or beginning of July, the “Garden festival” is organised, an electric car drives around the park. In the autumn/winter months’ families can enjoy an orientation game in the exhibition of the palace.
