Join them as they roam the gardens to seek out memories of London’s changing landscape. The design of the Memory Monsters will illustrate the challenges fundamental to the changing face of London. Taking on the guise of familiar local landmarks, a ‘rumpus’ of monsters will inhabit this key civic space, bringing an out of the ordinary spectacle to Vauxhall. 1 - 25 June Duke of York Square, Design Museum and Tavistock Road Square free admission Sandcastles Museum of Architecture The Museum of Architecture’s mission is to better engage the public with architecture, and this June MoA is commissioning architects to design three 2.5m high by 2.5m diameter sandcastles across the borough of Kensington and Chelsea for both London Festival of Architecture and the inTRANSIT Festival. The sandcastles will be designed by leading UK architects and respond to the themes of memory and island life. 2 June 12.00pm - 4.00pm Paternoster Square EC4M 7AG free admission The City Centre Youth Programme Pops-Up at Paternoster Square The City Centre The City Centre youth panel and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris need your help to build a new pop-up structure for the bustling precinct next to St Paul’s Cathedral in one day. Working as a team made up of young people, professionals and the public we will create a new and innovative structure that fits within Paternoster Square. 3 June 12.00pm - 3.00pm Somerset House WC2R 1LA free admission Memory Machine Somerset House This hands on family workshop will map London through a combination of drawings and collage techniques, exploring the themes of architecture and memory. By plotting the daily routes and journeys across the city by foot, bike, car, train or bus you will have the chance to contribute to a communal map of the various buildings, spaces and attractions and collective crossovers we share. The workshop will explore buildings past and present and how the changing landscape of London will affect the future of city life.
