'I am Shakti' campaign, a special women empowerment initiative driven by Mail Today
The event organized by
School of Media and
Communication Studies
took place at Galgotias
University campus on
10th Oct. 2014.
The attendees to the
event were:

Students of
SMCS as well as
students from
other
departments
The event Stressed at
making the world a
gender-free place with
more power to women.
The event comprised of
demonstration of self-
defense techniques to
strengthen the girls
physically. The event
left the girls motivated
that they no longer
need a man to protect
them. The boys at the
same time pledged to
protect and respect the
girls.
The campaign was all
about conditioning the
society and change
their mindset where
they learn to treat
women as another
human being with an
equal right to live with
dignity,

Introduction of ‘The Fine Tuners’ a music society of School of Media and Communication Studies
The School of Media
and Communication
Studies launched it
music society on 13th
Oct. 2014.
The Fine Tuners
Comprising of the
students from School
of Media and
Communication
Studies performed to
melodious numbers
during the lunch
break at the culture
corner in B block of
the university.
The event garnered
wide attention of the
students of the
university that turned
the event into a big
hit.
The Pro VC Dr.Renu
Luthra motivated the
students further by
her gracious
presence. the
students presented a
song requested by
the Pro VC. The Pro
VC extremely happy
by the initiative
hoped for such
events in the near
future again.

Visit to News 24
The students of
SMCS went on to
News 24 on 21st
oct.2014. the
students witnessed
how live show are
recorded. The
channel was
recording the
promotion of Shah
Rukh Khan’s
upcoming movie
Happy New Year.
The students had an
interaction with the
cast of the film.
Besides this the
students learnt how
actually the
promotional activities
are carried out in
television.

Visit to India TV for participation in Aapki Adalat
The Students of
SMCs were taken to
India TV for
participation on 21st
August 2014.
The students were a
part of the audience
in Aapki Adalat. This
facilitated the
demonstration of
how programs are
recorded and
interviews are
conducted.
The students cross
questioned the guest
and raised some
relevant questions.
The visit thus
facilitated
demonstration of
various facets of TV
industry.

Essay writing competition on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s 125th birthday celebration
School of media and
communication
studies organized an
essay writing
competition on
Maulana Abul Kalam
azad’s 125th birthday
celebration on 11
November 2014.
Students from all the
departments
participated.
Followed by the
essay competition a
documentary was
screened on the life
of Maulana Abul
Kalam Azad.

Workshop on cartooning
A two day workshop
on cartooning was
conducted in the
school of media and
communication
Studies.
The two day
workshop began on
9th October 2014.
Mr. Anil Naqhasi,
explained the
students the basics
of cartooning.
The workshop gave
the students an idea
of cartooning as
being done in
industry.
The workshop
focused on political
stripes and satire in
cartooning.

Workshop on anchoring
A two day workshop
on anchoring was
conducted by the
School of Media and
Communication
Studies.
The two day
workshop by
Arunima, Associate
editor CNN-IBN
began on 13th June
2014.
The students learnt
the anchoring skills
with the industry
professional.
The students on the
concluding day of
workshop had their
individual anchoring
sessions.
The workshop proved
to be a completely
value addition for the
students.

Special lecture series on media and identity
The School of Media
and Communication
and Studies
conducted a special
lecture series on
Media and Identity.
The speaker for the
session was Mr.
Naveen Misra.
Mr. Naveen Misra is
a EUROPEAN UNION
FELLOW and an
international expert
in New- Age Media
studies.
Mr Misra is also an
Erasmus Mundus
Fellow covering
Media studies in
three different
countries and viz
Netherlands,Denmark
and UK
simultaneously.
The lecture focused
on the stereotype
created by media.
It focused on identity
crisis being created
on media.
The lecture was a
value addition for the
students.

PSBT Open Frame 2014
The Students of
School of Media
and
Communication
Studies
participated in
fourteenth edition
of PSBT’s Open
Frame Film
Festival and
Forum, between
26th August and
2nd September
2014, at the India
International
Centre in
collaboration with
Doordarshan and
External Publicity
and Public
Diplomacy
Division, Ministry
of External Affairs.
They presented a
kaleidoscope: the
story of Indian
handicrafts, the
moments and
triumphs of
peoples’
movements,
struggles for the
right to live and
the right to die,
the history of
films and
filmmaking in
India, including
life-stories and
narratives of
legendary
trailblazers and
artistes, the plight
our urban and
rural
environments,
journeys through
India’s stunning
classical music
and dancescape,
our encounters
with some of the
oldest strains of
spirituality,
constructions of
our identities, the
possibilities of
changing our
worlds and many
such evocative
and exceptional
themes.

Auditions of the students for a daily soap
The School of media
and Communication
studies organized
auditions by Balaji
telefilms in the
university on 9th
September 2014.
The casting director
of Balaji Mr. Nagpal
took the auditions of
the students.
The auditions were
open to all the
students of Galgotias
University.
The students
received an idea of
how the auditions are
conducted and what
does the industry
need.

session on
Shadows in
media
aesthetics
Students attended
a special lecture, for
demonstration of the
impact of shadows
in visuals.

Fun day
Fun day was
celebrated on 22nd
December solely for
the teaching and
non-teaching staff in
the Galgotias
university campus.
The staff was seen
far from the regular
works in mirth and
joy participating in
the various games
and fun filled events.

Studies went on to
participate in
Roobaru, an election
debate on news 24.

Election Tour
A few days prior
Delhi elections
students of School of
media And
Communication
Studies went off for
election coverage.
The students went to
the head office of BJP
and AAP. The
students had a
conversation with the
crowds in various
parts of the city.

Fresher’s party 2014
To welcome the new
students and make
them feel completely
into the family
Galgotias university
organized a fresher’s
party. The students
had a bang. The
campus was
electrified by the
student’s high spirits
