We hope that our Industry Night provides you with valuable insight of life after graduation and the opportunities available to you.
Our community understands that transitioning from a student to industry professional can be daunting. We encourage you to make the most of Industry Night by engaging in conversation with our notable alumni. They understand and have overcome the challenges of entering the workforce.
Respected professionals representing the Program Advisory Committee will also be attending to provide their expertise on how students can prepare themselves to be industry ready.

We are fortunate to welcome four members of the School of Science’s Program Advisory Committee.These panel members are executive and management level leaders who represent a wealth of knowledge through their many years of experience in the industry. As members of the Program Advisory Committee, they contribute a great deal of insight and expertise to ensure that program coursework and content is relevant to industry trends and needs.

Dr Bruce Thorley
I graduated in Applied Biology from RMIT in 1985.
I worked as a research assistant in protein chemistry and molecular biology at the Howard Florey Institute of Experimental Physiology and Medicine before backpacking overseas for two years.
Upon returning to Australia I worked as a research assistant in molecular immunology at the Austin Research Institute, Austin Hospital, before undertaking a PhD in the same lab through the University of Melbourne.
I held a post-doctoral position at VIDRL in molecular virology before being appointed to my current position in 2001, which involves national and international public health.

Dr Chris Sotiropoulos
Dr. Chris Sotiropoulos has over 25 years global expertise in global commercialisation of innovative healthcare and IT products. During this time, he has developed extensive international networks that provide rapid assessment in local markets and identify optimal national entry pathways.
He has facilitated the licensing and distribution of healthcare products and services across several market segments, between listed and private companies in the US, Europe, Australia and Asia.
As a Co-Founder and Director of APAC Health, he helped develop nutraceuticals for novel applications, currently advises on development, funding and global expansion of healthcare products. In partnership with Swiss based Intilaris LifeSciences GmbH, he helped realign Pharma Drug Development stringency to provide several products for Biotech companies and funders. This is a world first and enables Biotech companies to develop products with earlier market entry. APAC also provides training and recruitment services, responding to market demand.
In Australia, he has introduced medicines for the treatment of sleep disorders, rare diseases and completed global licensing deals over USD $300m in value.He is also a Lawyer, focusing on International Trade and Commercial Law transactions.
Over the years, Chris has served on many committees including the Law Institute of Victoria, the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand, University Industry Advisory committees, private company board and charities. He is currently involved in several national and international initiatives through the Rotary Club of Melbourne. He has also taught International Commercial Development to MBA and Entrepreneurship students.
He holds a PhD in Molecular Microbiology, a Bachelor of Science Degree, a Law Degree and Executive Training in Leadership and Strategy in Pharmaceuticals and Biotech Executive Training from the Harvard Business School. He is also a reader of Ancient Greek and currently writing books on Philosophy and its application to enhance global commercialisation.

GVIGVI tackles critical local and global issues (in accordance with the UN’s SDGs) by operating award-winning education internships and volunteer training programs on sustainable development projects around the world.
We operate our own programs, as well as partner with local and international NGOs, government organizations and educational institutions. Save The Children, WWF, The Red Cross, and PADI are just a few of the incredible organizations with which we are privileged to partner.
Established over 20 years ago, we now have over 3000 participants traveling with us every year. Many of these participants return repeatedly and remain involved with our work on an ongoing basis. Tight-knit, fabulously friendly and relentlessly passionate; our globally connected team are not only genuine experts in their respective fields but are equally as dedicated to making an ethical, lasting impact in our world.
