Event Director’s Update – John Paine

As the 2019 Kidney Kar Rally is rapidly approaching, we hope this Klarion reaches you at a point in time when your preparations are nearing completion. I know, I must be dreaming!

The final Course check has been completed without too many dramas and I was very pleased that one of the National Parks we are travelling through has been reopened after a severe bushfire went through it in March.

I am sure most of you are aware that we have a special guest joining us for the opening dinner and first day on the Rally. Thanks to the Sponsorship of Biante Model Cars for making it possible for Supercars star; Chaz Mostert to join us as we depart from Port Macquarie. In other news our evenings on the Rally will this year see the return of the Jules and Gerry Show. Watch out for them as they might select you for an interview so bring your sense of humour. The description of the John Hogg Memorial Trophy Award has reverted to its original description as being awarded to the person or persons as the “Biggest Heart”.

Scrutineering:

I would like to thank our various Scrutineers in NSW for organising venues etc. in Wagga Wagga, Bathurst, ACT, Kenthurst and Narellan to Scrutineer some of our Kars. Those Entrants unable to get to these venues are to arrange for their Authorised Inspection Station or Mechanic to complete the Scrutineering forms and return to John Paine by email by the evening of 28th July 2019. [email protected] Failure to return your completed forms on time will incur a 20 point penalty from Day 1.

Pre Event Safety Checks: All entrants’ cars (Rally, Back up and Kruise) are to be presented at the Port Macquarie Racecourse Start venue on Friday 9th August 2019 (9am to 1pm) for a Safety check before they are allowed to proceed on the Rally. Please make sure you have your UHF Radio, Flashing lights, Tow bars etc. etc. fitted and in working order. Is your FIRST AID KIT up to date?

Dinner Tickets:

Extra Dinner Tickets for family or friends are available at $40 each. Contact John by 21 July, 2019.

Auction Night:

As we did last year, Entrants are encouraged to bring along suitable items to be Auctioned on the first night. If you are going to provide an auction item there are some rules that must be observed;

• A Maximum of three (3) items per team. • Minimum value of $100 per item • Items for auction must be photographed and a description sent to John

Paine by 31st July. • NO other Auction Items will be accepted on the day as we have a lot to get

through on the Opening Night. NB! The exception to this rule may be if someone wants to Auction their Starting position (TOP 10 Fundraisers ONLY!)

Fundraising:

Following the close of Entries on the 30th June your Fundraising efforts must be completed by 11:59pm Wednesday 31st July 2019 to be included in the Highest Fundraiser Awards. This requirement also allows us to calculate the first 15 Rally Starting positions so DO NOT leave remitting your offline fundraising to Kidney Health until the last minute.

Top 10 Highest Fundraises at end of June: (NB! Positions include 2018 Credits!)

School visits: As you can see from the above table we are visiting two State Schools this year for lunches at Moura and Monto and your team may consider donating suitable gifts remembering that they are Infant and Primary School age children. Maybe your team might consider putting together a written story about your Town or Team and how you became interested in participating in the Kidney Kar Rally and why you do it. Rallytives come from far and wide and the kids may be interested in your story.

2020 & 2021 Rally Dates; At the opening dinner in Port Macquarie, the Road Director will be announcing the Start & Finish locations for the 2020 Kidney Kar Rally as well as confirming the proposed dates. The Road Director is planning on conducting a “Marathon” Rally in August 2021 (10 days including a Lay Day) with a Pre event tag along tour for those that are interested.

Due to conducting a “Marathon” in 2021, the 2020 Rally would be shortened slightly meaning less time away from work and less cost which would help regular Entrants prepare to do both Rallies.

Proposed dates are Sunday 16th August to Saturday 22nd August 2020 and Wednesday 12th August 2021 to Saturday 21st August 2021. Put these dates into your diaries as KKR goes from strength to strength.

Kidney Kids Camp 2019 The 2019 Kidney Kids camp was a huge success and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support from last year’s Kidney Kar Rally.

Before camp activities even began, the buzz and energy from the 100 kids that attended Kidney Kids Camp this year, was huge! Fantastic host and Lord Somers Camp organiser, Alex, had them laughing and yelling with excitement before they ran off to do the special activities planned for the first day.

The kids had a special treat with Kidney Health Australia ambassador and cricket champion, David Hussey and Rob, Alistair and Simon from Cricket Victoria running a special cricket clinic for the kids. Soon, balls were flying all over the place with the volunteers ducking from the onslaught. On the other side of the camp, Jodie and Matt from Supreme Incursions were doing a mini Kidney Kar Rally teaching the kids to make and race their own billy carts.

Some of the kids were then lucky to sit in a real rally car thanks to rally participant George aka Yogi of Yogi and Boo Boo making the journey to Lord Somers to join camp for the day.

It was a great start to four fun-filled days, with other highlights including kayaking, t-shirt screen printing, African drumming and team building games plus a Barista class to teach them how to run their own café!

The kids didn’t let the cool weather dampen their spirits and for many, their time at camp was so special they didn’t want to leave, with one boy commenting to Kidney Health Australia organiser, Sarah, “Sarah camp goes too quick, please can it go for a week!?’

Because of the funds you raise each and every year, these kids were able to forget their daily struggles and just be kids – and they made the most of it!

From everyone at the Kidney Kids Camp, a HUGE thank you!
