Dear Conference Participant, Welcome to IFC's 12th Annual Global Private Equity Conference in association with the EmergingMarkets Private Equity Association (EMPEA). You have joined the largest and most comprehensive gathering across the globe of practitioners active in emerging markets private equity. We convene at an exciting time for emerging markets private equity. As we put what was undoubtedly one of the most challenging years for the asset class behind us, 2010 promises to mark the start of an industry rebound. Demonstrating considerable resilience during the financial crisis, emerging markets weathered the storm better than developed markets, and many are in fact leading the global recovery. According to the latest EMPEA/Coller Capital Emerging Markets Private Equity Survey, emerging markets are poised to gain a greater share of private equity commitments in the near-term as investors seek high-growth markets and believe that the performance of their emerging markets investments will significantly trump their exposure to developed markets. These perceptions illustrate just how far the industry has advanced in the past decade and highlight the new investment opportunities that these markets continue to cultivate. During the industry’s leading global conference, renowned experts and leading EM PE professionals will share their experiences and opinions on Returning to Growth: Private Equity in Emerging Markets. We will examine emerging market opportunities in this new financial world order and identify which markets and sectors present the most compelling investment thesis and merit increased focus, as well as explain how investors can best position themselves to maximize returns. We have a fascinating program with several prominent thought-leaders and authors as keynote speakers and numerous in-depth panel and breakout sessions to delve into issues on top of mind for private equity investors as the emerging markets lead global growth and recovery. Within this theme, we are delighted to devote an entire afternoon seminar to private equity investing in Latin America and the Caribbean, a region with its own set of unique challenges, yet brimming with significant opportunity. We are delighted to see so many of you returning to this event, as well as so many new faces joining us for the first time. We hope, as always, that you are able to spend time with old colleagues and make new professional ties, and we can continue to raise interest in and knowledge of private equity in emerging markets. Thank you for your participation, and enjoy the conference! Haydée Celaya Sarah Alexander Director President & CEO Private Equity and Investment Funds Department, IFC EMPEA
