Star Image The star image is used to brand the product. Branding is then used by the

music industry to create a range of products for audiences across a range of genres and musical styles (classical to rap to Heavy Metal) used to create what Anderson has called the Long Tail Theory.

Richard Dyer The importance of the visual ‘star image’, according to Dyer is broken down into 3 sections: • Audience and Institutions • Constructions • Hegemony (Cultural beliefs)

Audience and Institutions – Stars are made to make money for that purpose alone. The institution then modifies the stars image around the target audience, for example Rihanna.

Constructions – The star is built for an audience and is not an actual person (what seems to be). The star is built specifically with someone signature to them that differentiates them from other stars, for example Lady Gaga’s outrageous fashion or Katy Perry’s bright hairstyles.

Hegemony – We relate the the star because they have a feature that we admire or share with them. This develops from an admiration into an idolization. Some people may attempt to replicate what they like about the star, but this can be negative as even though stars are seen as role models, some abuse hard drugs and alcohol which can lead to people who worship these stars copying their actions.

Keith Negus Organic vs. Synthetic Keith Negus is a producing pop

artist, who identifies two distinct way of thinking about potential artist from within the music industry. So the ideology of organic artists are 'naturalistic' approach to artist.

We believe that the image in which we have tried to create with our band is very organic and to be seen as natural talent. We have also put a bit of rebellious in there to make the band a bit of an edgy look. But they are promoting at an organic based target audience.

Product We are branding something very original and natural in which can come

across as an alternative and ‘indie’ look. We have represented our good looking band to attract teenagers to be their role model. We have then created this by the image of the band as well as the design of artistic website and dig-pak in which represents the band to their looks and personality.

supermarkets and online retailers such as Amazon and EBay in which is a form of digital downloading.

We will then campaign our products on several social media sites, in which then will attract different target audiences and fan members.

Promotion Our products promotion will be mostly based online, such as social

networking sites. As the target audience in who we are targeting use social networks such as Facebook and twitter. So we believe that this is the best promotion on offer.

So with our website offering fan members to have a link to the Facebook and Twitter pages in which publishes dates of new releases and tours for fans to keep updated.

Philip Kotler Philip Kotler defines marketing as a ‘Human activity

directed at satisfying needs and wants through exchange processes’

This basically means that selling of products and services. Marketing consists of four variables: the four P’s

• Price- How much is the product will cost/consumers will pay for

• Place- How much is the product distributed and marketed to the target audience

• Product- What is being branded (in this case the ‘star image’)

• Promotion- How is it advertised, where and published

What VALS do you expect your target audience to have?

To conclude on our target audience we want to promote that image of being rebellious but at the same time being trendiest. This is hopefully going to stand out from other boy band group out there. In which will then attract both females and males of the age of 17-25.
