How Does It Work?

ELSDs detect any compound less volatile than the mobile phase using a simple three-step process:

Are There Any Limitations?

1. The mobile phase must be volatile.

2. The sample must be less volatile than the mobile phase.

3. Detection

The sample particles pass through a cell and scatter light from a laser beam. The scattered light is detected, generating a signal.

2. Evaporation

Droplets pass through a heated “drift tube“ where the mobile phase evaporates, leaving a fine mist of dried sample particles in solvent vapor.

Column effluent passes through a needle and mixes with nitrogen gas to form a dispersion of droplets.

The Only ELSD with Two Operating Modes Gives You Optimum Performance with Any Application

Since an ELSD’s response is based on the amount of particles passing through the optical cell, it makes sense that sending 100% of the column effluent through would net the highest responses. In many cases this is true. Some samples, such as semi-volatiles may benefit from lower operating temperatures and gas flows achieved by splitting a portion of the aerosol stream to waste. Only the ELSD 2000ES offers the choice of splitting or not splitting, giving you optimum sensitivity for every application.

Take away the worry of flooding the ELSD and prevent costly repairs with a constant supply of nitrogen gas!

Alltech’s Nitrogen Generator requires no electricity and has no moving parts. Nitrogen is generated using a proprietary membrane separation technology. Simply connect the generator to your lab’s existing compressed air supply or suitable air compressor. The generator separates air into its component gases by passing compressed air through bundles of individual hollow-fiber, semipermeable membranes. As the air passes through these hollow fibers, water vapor and other “fast” gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide permeate through the wall of the membrane quickly. Only nitrogen flows through the fiber bores as the product stream.

Alltech’s ELSD Nitrogen Generator produces a continuous, on demand supply of pure nitrogen at flow rates up to 4L/min. Two ELSDs may be used with one generator as long as your total gas flow rate is less than 4L/min.

The ELSD Nitrogen Generator has a small, compact footprint that fits easily on the lab bench next to your ELSD or mounts on the wall nearby.

The wide temperature range and large heated zone make the Jetstream Plus and Jetstream Plus 2 ideally suited for a wide range of HPLC applications. The column temperature is controlled using two-way forced air circulation for fast heating and cooling. A controller with a numerical keypad and a two-line LCD is used for programming.

The units have features for safe, reliable operation: self-check and auto calibration at power-on, leak detection, and automatic over temperature switch off.

Alltech’s Water Jacket is an effective and easy way to control the temperature of HPLC columns. Maximum allowable temperature is 90°C. Several sizes are available for jacketing columns up to 100cm long and up to 1/2" o.d.. Connections to the circulating bath are made with 1/4" o.d. flexible tubing. The water jacket is made of clear acrylic tubing, 1.5" o.d. x 1" i.d..

The end connections are designed to form a tight seal around 1/16" o.d. tubing. Connecting tubing is supplied with each water jacket. The entire column, including endfittings, is contained within the water jacket. One year warranty.
