EVAPORATIONThe "first" step in the water cycle is when

water in oceans, lakes, or other bodies/collections of water is warmed up by the Sun.

Heat adds energy to matter. This causes the molecules in the water to move faster and farther apart, until they move so far apart that they become a gas instead of a liquid - the water becomes water vapor.

CONDENSATION

•Eventually the water vapor condenses into clouds. This means that the particles in the water vapor slow down and cool off, resulting in them becoming water droplets.

•These water droplets group together to form clouds.

PRECIPITATION•When enough water droplets form 'inside' clouds, they become heavy enough to fall towards the Earth.

•This is usually observed as rain, but precipitation can also occur as snow, hail, sleet, etc., depending on temperatures and humidity.

TRANSPIRATION•The process by which plants lose water through their leaves.

•There are tiny opening on the bottom of the leaves that are called “stomatoes”. When the sun is shining, they open and release water. When there is no sun, they close and hold on to the moisture.

Water Cycle Poem

The heat from the sunShines down on the lake, And causes some water to evaporate.Evaporated water rises up to the sky, And changes into clouds that we see passing by.Along comes a wind and blows them around,And that’s what makes the rain that falls to the ground.

EVAPORATION…..CONDENSATION….PRECIPITATION
