46 How does the department ensure that programme objectives are constantly met
and learning outcomes are monitored? :
Department often gets together with Gandhian Organizations, alumni and
other agencies. During field study of students, faculties visit and evaluate
the performance of students. Field researches are very good sources of
feedback through which we can monitor and evaluate learning outcomes.
Besides, the department has developed a continuous evaluation system so
that students’ performance can be monitored constantly.
47 Highlight the participation of students and faculty in extension activities :

presenting research papers/articles in seminars/conferences, etc. are source of
new knowledge.
51 Detail five major Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges (SWOC)
of the Department: (Dept. of Gandhian Studies)
Strengths :
1. A very strong base of Gandhian ideology
2. Peaceful and beautiful campus with excellent infrastructural
facilities like well equipped computer lab, rich library, classroom
with latest teaching-learning aids, etc.
3. Inspirational and encouraging environment full of opportunities
4. Extraordinary and unique method of life skill development through
residential course facility
5. Learned, academically strong and enthusiastic staff
Weaknesses:
1. As most of our students come from rural background, have rural
base, the medium of instruction is Gujarati. Hence, students face
problems in coping up with English language.
2. Being a residential programme, we are unable to attract youth of
urban society at the time of admission. So, we have very little benefit
of rural-urban cultural interaction.
3. Less number of female students taking admission.
Opportunities :
1. Regular visits by international experts.
2. Collaboration with various Gandhian universities.
3. Intervention in social cause
4. Spreads the message of Gandhian constructive works.
5. Excellent interface of our students with international community.
343 GVP NAAC-2015
Challenges:
1. Since our department is based on Gandhian values and lifestyle,
modern youth is not convinced easily to adapt to such ideology.
2. Students are taught values like ethics, honesty, thrift, truth, non
violence, etc., which sometimes put them in tight corner in practical
life.
3. In the age of globalisation and corporate culture, it is a challenging
task to attract wide number of inputs along with our ideals and
ethics.
4. Competition from other institutions and self financed colleges.
Peace Research Centre
Strengths :
1. This is multicultural, multilingual, interdisciplinary, national &
international character and Gandhian value-oriented course.
Weakness:
1. This is not a job oriented course. Thus, very few students join the
course.
2. Lack of international funding for field research.
3. Lack of awareness of the course in the society is also a major
obstacles.
Opportunities:
1. Regular visits by international experts.
2. Collaboration with various Gandhian universities.
3. Intervention in social cause
4. Spreads the message of Gandhian constructive works.
Challenges:
1. Interdisciplinary nature of department is not accepted by the other
university.
2. Less career opportunity for students.
344 GVP NAAC-2015
52 Future plans of the Department :
Dept. Gandhian Studies

2. To incorporate more & more students in M.A. programme.
3. To start Certificate course in Elements of Gandhian Thought.
4. To start ISSN (bi-annual) Journal “Gandhi Vimarsh”.
5. Make International Course more popular.
6. To develop Module on subjects of contemporary relevancy like
